gaming What are some strategies to defeat the Elite Four in Pokémon Silver?

I'm doing the Pokémon League challenge, and I can make it past Will easily, but Koga hands my ass to me on a diamond plate. I don't know what to do.

Get a fast Psychic type that can sweep. Make sure it has decent def/spec def so it can survive a hit or two if it fails to sweep.

Worst part of E4 is Lance and his Dragonites with their tons or resistances and 2 weaknesses that are somewhat rare (if you have a Feraligatr, Ice Fang does so much work) and their Outrage and their high base stats :(

Use Feraligatr. Teach him Ice Beam and Earthquake cause those are best moves. Also Surf cause that kicks ass.

Trust me, I'm an expert, I played this game 5 trillion times as a kid.

Yea a good psychic type is good to have against Koga. A ground type is also useful, t I thinnk he has a weezing so... But yea you also might want to make yourself a couple levels over everyone so you have an advantage. And I am now a parasprite.

Koga uses mostly poison pokemon, so having a strong Ground or Psychic type with Earthquake and Psychic respectively is useful, and a fire type is essential for the takiing the fortress out easily, plus he has a few bug types

Past that, Bruno can easily be dealt with by using that psychic type you used on Koga, or whomever you use fly with, but be careful of rock moves. Most of his pokemon aren't beyond exceptional in defense you some of them can be taken out by whomever your most powerful Spec attacker is. Karen is a bit of a mixed bag, I recommend just variety since she only has a couple dark types, but fighting, fire, and water I think will all be useful. For Lance, you NEED a strong Ice attack, preferably use a water type as he also has an aerodactyl and I think he has a gyarados so if you have an electric type attack you should be good.

Or just grind the crap of your pokemon

My top secret strategy: buy 30 full restores and 30 revives and hope for the best tongue.png

Honestly though, I don't think I really had much of a strategy in the second generation considering the elite 4 were so underleveled. I think the highest leveled pokemon in there is level 50. Just build up a somwhat decent and well balanced breakfast team, do some grinding, get some somewhat decent moves through TMs and possibly HMs (thinking of surf) and you should be alright.

As for your Koga issue though, I can't really see what your problem exactly is. I could suggest investing in a steel type like magneton to resist pretty much every single attack he has and gain immunity to poison attacks (including toxic).

i don't think type effectiveness matters as much on the story mode as it does for competitive battling, if you're struggling, all you need to do is grind in Victory Road- on fire red i took the whole elite 4 with nothing but a Charizard, a Pidgeot and a HM slave Garados... and on Pearl i took them all with a lv. 94 Buneary XD

sadly, i've found level to be more effective than typing.

(edit: make sure you have a fair few Ethers, though.)
