Norman 177 July 9, 2013 Share July 9, 2013 (edited) As the title suggest, do you think the fans would've thought differently of the movie if it was a fanfiction or fanimation instead of a full length, Hasbro made film? XrosOver 613 July 10, 2013 Share July 10, 2013 Probably. I believe it would be more accepted because it wouldn't change the canon of the show. It also would most likely become famous like Fallout: Equestria and Anthropology. 1 The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right? DarkParu 42 July 10, 2013 Share July 10, 2013 I think that Hasbro found a fan fiction online and said....Make it into a movie and cannon it right at the bronies. I as a huge fan of the show and the community enjoyed the movie and was very happy with it.

It also would most likely become famous like Fallout: Equestria and Anthropology. This. I feel like most people - even after being told that Flash, Sunset Simmer, and the other universe will not be included in season 4 nor will the movie be referenced in anyway, people still have that slight fear of the new character or events being canon. Moreover, I feel like some who dislike the film feel that it changed the image of the show a little bit and turned it more superficial (like typical high school movies or cartoons). Had it been a fanfic, it would have just been from the mind of a fan. It would have either been very creative (having the creative license without worrying about public reaction ie parents and critics) and revered, or it would have been horrible and people would have simply ignored it without fearing it would be canon - because after all, at that point it's only a fanfic. Zygen 6,066 July 10, 2013 Share July 10, 2013 I actually kinda think if it was a fanmade thing that either it would become hated more due to not being produced by hasbro, or it would be liked more because it wasn't going to have any chance to affect the actual show or anything. Idk it could be the same, but I doubt it. 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Inactive01 5,299 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 More hatred would be fermented against the fanfic than the movie itself. For one, it'll most likely be an inexperienced writer making the story. They probably won't be able to convey the story well. I'd still have faith in the fandom if someone really special made that fanfic, like the guys from Fallout Equestria for instance, but other than that, it'll probably be more hated as a fanfic.
ReGen 1,466 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 I believe it would. Mostly because it wouldn't be canon. I don't get why people have such a problem with it to begin with. Oh no! It's something other than ponies! Send death threats to the staff and make them pay! "I keep the walking on the right side, but I won't judge the next who handles walking on the wrong. This, and there are still a lot of people out there who do not take fan fiction seriously, or they simply do not enjoy reading it. To me, fanfiction isn't my favorite thing in the world. I do not really enjoy reading it the way I did when I was in high school. I am mildly interested in writing it for MLP, but I don't really have the time for that right now. I feel that most fans feel at least similarly. Think about it. How many casual bronies read fanfiction? Yet how many of them went and saw the movie? 1 Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
HunterTSN 1,444 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 (edited) Very much so. If someone doesn't like a fanfic then they just don't read it, but since Equestria Girls is an official release it is pretty much demanding you to watch it. If you don't like it you are forced to live with it unlike a fanfic where you can just forget ever happened. Metemponychosis 1,262 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 My guess is that if it was fan made, the fans would have done something very different. in Equestria. With actual ponies. Maybe even a similar plot, but with these critical differences. But I guess that you want to know opinions on how it would have been received even if it was the same way it is... Not for me. I don't like the anthro pictures that have been around before and this would be the same. Weird... I generally like anthro, and I like ponies. Why the hell can't I like the link between the two? https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. And I'm just getting started.
PonyBoy15 428 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 To me, I feel like Hasbro took a risk developing and releasing the movie. Many fans including myself thought it would change my view on the franchise. I watched seasons 1 and 2 then heard about the movie. Being curious and all, I watched the trailer and was left like O_o ... how do you go from ponies for over a decade, to high school teens. It's supposed to be a spin off, so it has nothing to do with the main storyline. So i'm hoping in season 4, there isn't any reference to the events of the movie. But for some reason, I can't get rid of the thought that Hasbro might pull a stupid move ad have twilight switch between dimensions in some episodes of season 4. We'll have to wait and see. other than all that, it was a good movie ^^ Rarity: Generous, Classy, and Sophisticated... Scootalove 10,689 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 I don't think that the reception of the spinoff movie would have changed even, if it was a fan fiction made by the fandom. But, I guess it would have a different response than a mixed reaction. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Proton 565 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 I think myself reception would have changed. A lot. Just think about it: It would be nothing more than a typical non-canon fanfic which may be good, but not good enough. Also, the animations. Fan animation will never be as good as official Hasbro animation is. "Walk always in shadows, so that you will see your foes before they see you." Most people will simply remove an episode from their headcanon if they hate it enough, or it doesn't make sense with the actual canon. Most people just forget about it. ...then again, we ARE bronies... 1 Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
Astrobrony 655 July 11, 2013 Share July 11, 2013 I think expectations were higher because it was from DHX and Hasbro. If this was just a fanfic, I think it probably would have just been a really great story but nowhere near well known. But then again, fanfics are a different medium than movies or TV. I think a better analogy would be to compare it to fan projects like 'Double Rainboom', or 'Doctor Whooves & Assistant'. The fan reaction for EqG if it was a fan project instead of an official release would have been VERY different IMHO. 1 Applejack is best pony!
