Why wasn't Sombra sent to Tartarus?

I mean seriously. If they sended him to tartarus He wouldn't have banished the Crystal Empire, I get Discord not being sent there and NMM was sent to the moon in a desprate move by celestia. but why wasn't Sombra sent to tartarus? Is it because the princesses couldn't defeat him but they could banish him?

Thats... actually a good point. Perhaps Tartarus was just a short reference for no real good reason other than to make the appearance of cerberus make sense. It would be cool if they included more mythology in MLP though

Uh, interesting thought, but we've got bigger plot holes than that.

 

If Celestia and Luna could send him to Tartarus, I'm not sure if they would have.

 

I mean, the entire show is based on love and tolerance, even for evil shadow creatures that enjoy conquering, enslaving and decrystallizing innocent crystal ponies.

I personally think it's more his own dark magic distorting him into that shadowy being we see in "The Crystal Empire". The Sisters probably had to put him down fast and didn't have the time and strength to take him to Tartarus. Hell, at that point, he was probably too powerful to keep in there.

I think that Celestia and Luna didn't send Sombra to the tartarus because, they probably thought that he was too powerful and wouldn't be easy to put in there unless they weaken him. So instead, they had to banish him and keep him at bay.

We don't really have much information about exactly how Sombra cursed and banished the empire. However, Celestia says that he put the curse of the empire before they overthrew him, turned him to shadow and banished him into the arctic north. Putting him in Tartarus instead probably wouldn't have stopped him from doing it. 

 

And if he could return from being banished, who's to say he couldn't have escaped Tartarus too, leaving a great big escape route for the other evils presumably locked there? Then they'd be too busy fighting those other evils to stop him.

Maybe celestia and Luna simply don't posses the power to send him to Tartarus. Or maybe it's a place they just aren't allowed to due to another powerful being in charge.

 

I think sombra wouldn't have minded it much, and that's why.

I would assume mostly due to the circumstances that he was defeated in. But I personally think that Equestria would be better off with that bastard dead.

Sending Sombra to tartarus might be like plugging a laptop in to recharge its battery. He would thrive in such an environment, drawing on the hateful energy there to make himself more powerful. Sombra was so powerful and evil to the point of being the antithesis of Princess Celestia that he may have simply raised an army of monsters to escape tartarus, and then attack Equestria.
