Are Some of Us too Harsh?

Adam Jensen

Recommended Posts

Life is harsh. Frankly I care little about whether or not the guys feelings were hurt. There are no useful discussions on Youtube anyway.

That's probably true... I once saw someone say "a youtube comment is the lowest form of human communication" and the more I look at youtube I'm thinking... yeah they were right.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Scrumpy is cider made in the West Country of England,[1] particularly a band through Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, though it may also be found in Kent, Sussex and East Anglia. The term is especially used to distinguish those made locally in smaller quantities and using traditional methods from mass-produced branded ciders.

Does a Youtube comment even count as human communication?  :derp:

I go through there and the level of stupidity is mind boggling. It's like invading Russia in winter, twice.

...Yeah, we tend to swarm and get defensive when we're angry. But i also think that youtube comments in general are filled with idiocy and stupid, harsh comments. You find them on pretty much every youtube video.

Really, here's my view on it:

A vast majority of MLP-hating community don't even give a shit anymore, as far as I know. Why? Because the fandom is so damn big and has been here for so long, it's not worth giving a shit. What's the point in doing so if it's not going to change anything? You'll hate the show all you want, you'll hate the community all you want, but that won't make a difference. What WILL make a difference is being so vocal that you'll become less desirable in the eyes of bronies, non-bronies, and even some anti-bronies. The bigger problem is the MLP community. Back in 2010 and 2011 when it was a relatively small community (I said relatively, I know it was still fuckin' big) and the MLP haters were more out there and in your face. Most chose to ignore it. But now, the way the community is and what with the newer members who take this shit so personally, you can't say one thing below neutral of MLP or at least one person's bound to go off on you, whether or not it's meant to be ironic or silly, or you were being entirely serious.

tl;dr: Bronies feel even more like this shit's taboo, so they'll go on a verbal holy crusade to defend their girly ponyish honor.

I'd really love it if the brony community as a whole would just die, to be honest. You can hate me all you want for this, but the Internet would be better off if either the community was less obnoxious or just didn't exist.

I didn't really see the issue. I mean, I'm a fan of Adam Jensen, but who cares if someone turns him into a pony?

Somepony was an idiot, and somepony else responded with the same level of intelligence, in a way that ridiculed and brought down somepony.

What's the problem? Yes, bronies are about love and tolerance, but still... everypony is overreacting.

I have seen Blunty on youtube and I watch his content regularly. I know he can be a rather critical person, but that is what he does. He is a total critic. I think that it is necessary to have people like Blunty who are willing to be rather rude and just a total dick to brony haters. It shows that we aren't all just going to use a saying like "Haters gonna hate!", and that we will stand up for what we believe in.

Yeah we are to harsh, you have to remember bronys are normal people to, and although love and tolerate got thrown arround alot, in the end its just ended ip being used to fight back.

Overall just ignoring the haters is the best thing to do :P, but so many bronys are passive aggressive or even worse!

The OP probably should have worded it better, but the guy went full retard and acted like someone insulted his mother.

On the fandom in general, I give the same answer. A lot of people go on Youtube, forums, and other places and pick fights, and basically just go full retard. There's a lot of sane people here, but some that just go on about how perfect the show is, and how It's God's miracle cartoon, but here's the thing, It's not. I think It's one of my all time favorites, but definitely not my favorite. And I am sure many people are in the same boat as me.

Ok so while the brony hater shouldn't really be complaining about something like that in my opinion(Considering lots of fandoms do that type of thing i'm sure) especially since its not like he has go to searching crossovers up, its going to happen as people like the show and enjoy doing little crossovers with other shows they love.

However, the brony reacted in a very inconsiderate way, he in a sense fought fire with fire, and you know what happens when you do that...

So basically there is no point in doing what that brony did, he got all aggressive which really isn't going to fix anything, it'll just cause more fighting.

So yeah, some bronies I guess are harsh, or just kinda aggressive with presenting ourselves. We should react to haters if we even bother, in a calmer manner.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE,THE WORDS ABOVE THIS LINE ARE QUOTED. DON'T PICK ME APART FOR THAT.

Ok. for the comfort and peace of you, him, Tom, Dick and Harry and everyone else, let me just sum up the fandom's response to hating in a single metaphor.

If you all will, may i draw a parallel of this case to the militaries across the world, and their actions and responses to crisis over the last 100 years. There in lies the reasoning and explanation to the fandom's obnoxious and supposed unreasonable behaviour. Why? Think about it.

A 100 years ago, the armies across the world truly hated each other. had real reasons for a full out war. Thus, they did eventually fight. across the battlegrounds, scorching every continent's ground. many fell in battle. those who returned, crowned heroes. In a similar way, the original bronies and haters fought. back and forth throughout the romping grounds of the internet, not a single corner untouched by the ravages of battle. In both cases, every dirty trick was justifiable.

Of course, war did not last forever. hard work and gambles paid off, and battles came to a close. For both cases, the treaties were signed, and a unsteady peace was made. For the Militaries, it was 1945, the founding of the UN and the close of WWII. For the bronies, it was the 4chan relent, the /mlp board and EQD. but old tidings still festered, and led to the Cold War.

For the militaries, no one wanted another full out war again, so proxy wars in uncared-for countries took place, and the strategy for response to a full war was all MAD and attrition warfare. and so it was with brony response videos and mass communities. No big battles this time, but no one stepped down from the staredown either.

Slowly, the sentiment faded, and the world "got together with arms wide open." then the new "war" rose from the ashes, called extremism and terrorism. it came out of the countries that were used in the Cold War, and them wanting to get back at the world powers for the damages. And thus the world readied itself for the "war", which was not what it used to be. And so it continues from this day. Bronies are also at this stage, fighting an "enemy" in conditions of yesterday.

What do i mean from all this? i mean that new bronies, just like the new people in the military today, are trying to re-live the glorious battles of the past, by making a mountain out of a molehill. because now, the veterans are still venerated, and the glory of battle is all too thrilling and lucrative. everyone now fights the shadow of the enemy, never seeing they will only get a shadow of the respect. and if that shadow becomes the new reality, then we are all doomed.

In a sentence? everyone is trying to re-live the battle's glory days by wrecking the world of today.

Thus its normal. everyone is messing themselves over for a thing of the past. And before you say no one doing such for these sort of things, wait. Think about the logic, and see for yourself how foolish we all are. Look at it this way, and see how we need to find a new connecting vision, both in this fandom and in this world.

And thus, i conclude my speech and rest my case.

I used to like Blunty, before I realised how rude he can be, and it's not always justified either he's deleted plenty of civil comments and exploded at anti-bronies and fellow bronies alike. I just brushed it off as "fine if you wanna be that way then I will waste no more time on you". But I accepted long ago that every barrel no matter how good has one or two bad apples. :P

I don't really understand how you guys can defend an Anti-brony. Someone who has genuinely dedicated their time and effort to being nothing but a nuisance, but God forbid anyone actually gets on his case about it, right?

Blunty was being a little harsh, but it's his not like his opposition is in the right. Like I said, he came to a video he had no business going too just to start trouble. Cause and Effect.

It really wouldn't. You think getting rid of one fandom is going to suddenly make everything better? These obnoxious people in our fandom will just find something else to latch onto, and maybe they'll be even more annoying. Oh but I suppose it would be acceptable as long as it's not pones specifically, right?

And I assume that by "Internet", you mean a few of the websites you or your friends frequent that have been "invaded" by ponies. There's more to the World Wide Web than a few forums.

TBH I don't really care what fandom somebody is in, or not in, I just don't condone anybody who acts like a bit of a knob basically. And just because you are a brony doesn't mean even if you are in the wrong I'm gonna defend you "just cause" you share a fandom with me, it's bias and I won't stand for it.

What are you getting at with this? Bronies were FAR more hated in 2011 than they are now, and bronies either gave 0 shits and didn't argue or fight back at all or just took it, most people just keep their mouths shut now so it's not much to worry about. Most of the older fans probably don't want to put up with that bullshit and newer fans don't even know what that bullshit is like, so so much for that 'reliving the glory days' theory. Also, in my opinion, nothing was glorious about 2011.

@@skysweep,

If you so wish for the brony fandom to die, then... good grief. Not even worth my response, but hey, I may as well add a post to my collection.

I'll be short. The brony fandom dying won't fix a thing. Period. End of story. Good bye.

Well I am glad I posted this, I see a lot of different views and opinions on this.

Mandalore Dash

I am DaevenSmith as well as AverageWhiteGuy and if you will indulge me I will shed some better context on this story.

Winterbass

IF you had been able to read my initial 3 part post as AverageWhiteGuy you would have been able to see I had stated that as Someone who still watches cartoons, grew up with both Power Puff Girls and Fosters Home for Imaginary friends, and even still plays with my lego's even though Im going on 18. Hell I even run around with toy guns pretending to play soldier while shooting bbs at other people. I am in all respects still a kid at heart. Hell until a few Days ago when Edios Randomly posted the Ponyfied Adam Jensen (the One I found for my avatar here looks way cooler) on the Dues Ex Fan page, I didn't even know what a Brony was. So if you guys will indulge me I will start at the beginning.

A few Days ago I was on my fake Adam Jensen Facebook Profile (Yeah, okay maybe I have a wee to much time on my hands) I decided to check said Deus Ex Fan page to see if there was any news on the Sequel to Human Revolution. Their newest post was titled Deus Ex: Pony Revolution. I was not mad, or disgusted, only slightly annoyed and also curious about the comments. I found someone left a link to Blunty's video, and so further curious I proceeded to watch said video. I even agreed with a few of his points. In the original 3 part comment I left I even said this.I also stated I wasn't a brony hater, and again said cartoons I had grown up with. It wasn't till he deleted the second and third parts of my comment and left the relply he did I got a little mad. Even Then I kept my cool. At No point did I insult him, other Bronies, or even MLP for the matter even when I had to go to my backup youtube to reply. I had initally planned to be mean and post the screenshot on formus as a meme. But I realized that was wrong and took a different approach. Here is the only place I posted it. I did so because I wanted a better insight into Bronies or MLP fans, what have you. I've even started looking into the material and find some of it interesting.  The Point of this story is That people like Blunty give Bronies, fans of any specif thing in general a bad name. I wasn't rude with him, I didn't insult MLP, bronies or anyone at all for that matter, and he decides to be a dick. I don't care who you are, what you're a fan of or what you represent, its no excuse to be rude. Could I have voiced my annoyance better, sure. Can I admit I was wrong to so quickly be annoyed by Pony Adam Jensen sure. But at least I can admit I'm wrong, and I can also have a discussion without insulting someone, something Blunty clearly cannot.

P.S. Even when i found it annoying, I didn't hate the bronies. And Even though I don't care for Blunty I still dont have any issue with Bronies.

No offense, but in your original comment, you came off as something of a douche. You even started off with "The problem with bronies is", and then proceeded to complain about crossovers. Considering that it was originally a 3-part rant, I'm not going to put stock in your other comments being any nicer. Regardless of whether Blunty was technically insulting you or not, you threw the first punch.

Blunty's comment section is not for people to spout off about bronies. Had you worded your concerns better, and posted them on the Facebook page in question, things probably would have turned out differently. The fact that you used an alt account to get around his block is just the icing on the cake. No matter where you go, doing that is always considered a dick move.

Even if you're being gentlemanly here on MLPForums, that doesn't change the fact that you acted like a bit of a dick on YouTube. It's really not Blunty who's at fault here, man. :\

Context is key, you'd be much less critical at the response if you saw how bad Youtube comments can get. I've seen bronies get attacked for it when not even mentioning MLP because they have a MLP icon. He's also a major blogger, so you have to imagine the shit her has to deal with on a daily basis.

Example, on one of Ashens videos someone answered a reply to one of their comments with "I don't need a pony f***ers opinion." when the conversation wasn't even MLP related and a whole flame-war complaining about bronies broke loose when it was the hater that brought the subject up.

I might add that you say you don't like the show, yet here you are(with a MLP icon, no less) complaining on a pony forum.

Most definitely.

Let's not pretend that the hater was playing fair. Who in their right minds comes to a video to do nothing but let it be known how much they hate us? I think he deserves to be insulted.

I think you should look over my story. As said before I am NOT a Brony hater, Anti-Brony whatever. I am Neutral, I don't hate either side because until recently I had no idea either side existed. Furthermore I never said anywhere in my comments I hated Bronies. Why? Because I DON'T.

And I assume that by "Internet", you mean a few of the websites you or your friends frequent that have been "invaded" by ponies. There's more to the World Wide Web than a few forums.

Again, I am NOT a Brony hater. As I also said before I until recently had no Idea what a Brony was. I watched a video that was posted on Facebook, on the Deuse Ex Fan Page, and commented on it. I don't spend my time looking for Brony made youtube video's just to comment on them. The video in question was the first Brony video I saw, the first and only one I commented on. Also even if I'm not a Brony saying that I have no business going to certain video's because I am a fan of something or not is arrogant. If I see a video on facebook be it my wall or a page I follow I have every right to watch it. Its like saying if you see a video on a MLP facebook page about Star Trek and you're not a fan that you have no right to watch it.

No offense, but in your original comment, you came off as something of a douche. You even started off with "The problem with bronies is", and then proceeded to complain about crossovers. Considering that it was originally a 3-part rant, I'm not going to put stock in your other comments being any nicer. While My inital post was perhaps worded incorrectly my original continuation was much nice because I realized the first post was rude, and instead of deleting the one I come off as a dick on he deletes the ones where i further explain that Im no brony hater, and that upon watching his other Brony hater rant I was pleased to find that the new MLP was created by the creator of PPG and Fosters 2 shows I enjoy to this day. Let me Be Perfectly Clear. I DO NOT hate Bronies, or the MLP fanbase in general. I have no problem with male adults or males in general that watch MLP or any other cartoon. Given the fact that my day being a 17 year old boy consists of Video Games, Cartoons, playing with my legos and Airsoft I don't believe there is a certain age you have to stop watching or doing things you enjoy, no matter what the Demograph says said thing is for. The whole point of this, besides getting insight into the MLP community, was to show that A Fanbase should be careful who the let represent them, I know Blunty doesn't speak for everyone, but He has a voice that people listen to I'm sure. And while My Comment may have been out of line, the Correct response is not one of childish name calling and venomous hate but to either A) respond in a calm manner or B )simply delete said comment without any response at all. Instead he tried to make himself look like a good guy, in my opinion, which can only lead to further hatred. Give that I clearly stated I wasn't a Brony hater to him, the fact he shot off at me was rude and uncalled for. Maybe I'm wrong though, maybe its okay to attack a neutral party so that they end up hating you. Not everyone is like me, most would just take something like this and Say every Brony and MLP fan in general is like Blunty. But I didn't believe that and choose to findout for myself.

Context is key, you'd be much less critical at the response if you saw how bad Youtube comments can get. It's not even that I don't like the show, its that I have yet to watch it, I have no opinion of it.  And I have come to actually enjoy this community, and even the Pony Avatar I found, Ironic isn't it?

It's not even that I don't like the show, its that I have yet to watch it, I have no opinion of it.  And I have come to actually enjoy this community, and even the Pony Avatar I found, Ironic isn't it?

Based on my interaction with you so far, I'd say you're a pretty good person. I even brohoofed your post, because why not. However, you should understand that first impressions mean a lot to people, and Blunty's first impression of you was that of a guy leaving a rude comment on his video.

He gets way too many comments like those, most of them from folks who aren't good people. If you wanted to put out the fire you started with your first comment, you should have started by apologizing.

I'm glad that you are taking responsibility for what you did wrong here. It takes a strong man to admit when he screws up. But you can't blame Blunty for his end, because you didn't leave him a good first impression to judge you by.

P.S. Here ya go, because Deus Ex kicks ass.

The whole intent is for it to be a large metaphor for the debate at hand. What i meant is exactly what you said: the bronies back then were not caring about the hate headed their way. in essence, the right way to deal with the hate. Similar to the just cause the militaries had back then, the best way to deal with the crisis at hand, which is why i drew the parallel.

Also, the connection offers another insight; i am showing that it was worse back then then now. i know how badly hated they were in 2011; i was there. I was also just making the link between the fact we have the gung-ho over-reactors of today, trying to fight hate like its 2011 all over again. that is what i meant by "fighting for former glory". As its like they are simply trying to seem so heroic to go on a crusade, even though no one asked for any trouble.

what I linked to 'glory days' is people trying to fight an enemy(haters)that is not there. basically, looking for a fight when there is'nt one. its not about glory. it is the military parallel I was drawing, how they also are looking for an "enemy" to fight when there is a lull in the action, and how all of them are foolish in that manner, as all they end up doing is damaging everyone else for no reason.

Also even if I'm not a Brony saying that I have no business going to certain video's because I am a fan of something or not is arrogant.

Arrogant it may be, but you have no business going to a pony video JUST to spout off stereotypes. Not all bronies base their entire being around ponies and I take some offense to being lumped together and then insulted like that. Now keep in mind, that I am not saying that you can't watch it, you can comment, but once you make that comment you're on your own.

But in total response to your topic, while I do think some of us are too harsh, I don't think that was harsh. I've seen harsh, I've seen mean and irrational and just downright unpleasant. I don't think Blunty's response was harsh, because it's something I agree with. Someone getting so anally crusaded at crossover art is not something I can defend. He's acting like the existence of that art is the end of the world and it's really not.

No one should respond to a ponyfication like that, it's just immature.
