Ember lets out a loud sigh of relief as the desk slides where it's supposed to, waiting until Caramel is out from underneath it before letting his spell die off.  He reaches up with one hoof to wipe his brow, a couple tiny sparks shooting out of his broken horn.

 

He turns to smile at the mare, about to say something but freezing as she rubs against him.  Blushing, he smiles sheepishly and tentatively returns the gesture.  "Hey, happy to help...  S'what I'm here for, right?"

Caramel smiled at Ember's comment the looked around for Pondah curiously. "Where do ya suppose our pal went?" she asked questioningly. She gave another glance around the room before shrugging and trotting towards the window to look outside at the rain. Leaning her hooves on the sill, she sighed lightly as the raindrops dribbled down the glass structure. A small flash of lightning sparked in the sky, followed by a humming thunder. The mare couldn't help but relax to what seemed like a soothing tune to her. She had almost forgot Ember was there before she turned to look at him happily. Poor stallion...pretty bad that he can't enjoy this like I do. Maybe someday things'll change...hopefully.

Pondah recalled where Sky had gone and by walking in his hoofsteps, went over to where he was. "Um... Mr. Sky," Pondah said quietly. "Sorry about the late reply but I don't mind what you get me to eat. If I can make a suggestion, please may I have some bread and water? I'm starting to get tired of berries and garbage."

Sky stopped dead in his tracks. "Did you say...garbage?"

Sky was in shock that he was eating that way. "Look here Pondah. I'll make sure your taken care of. Your my friend, and friends take care of each other. I think I remember seeing a sandwich shop not to far from here. I'll be back in two shakes of a tail."

"I'll be right back everypony! I'm going for food!"

 

With that, He walked out into the rain. It didn't bother him seeing as he used to be the engineer in charge of cloud making in Cloudsdale, as he trotted down the street. In his own little head, he enjoyed the lightning the best though as it gave him a sense of power. Before he knew it, he was at the sandwich shop.

 

"Excuse me Sir," The soaking wet stallion said. I'd like." he paused a moment as he counted in his head on how many sandwiches to got. "I'd like ten daisy and daffodil sandwiches please."

 

Sky paid for them and headed back to the office, enjoying the rain on himself, his saddlebag keeping the sandwiches dry, as he finally approaches the weather office and walks in. 

 

"Okay everypony, time to dig in! Everypony gets two." as he passes the sandwiches out, setting two aside. "I hope everypony like daisy and daffodil."

Pondah returned to the main office to find Sunny peering out of a window into the storm. He also noticed Ember on the floor near her and decided it best to leave the pair alone. He crept towards a nearby desk and began to rummage through the contents of its draws. A thorough search showed up nothing but ink, parchment and quills. With a sigh, Pondah shut the draws and stepped back.

 

As he did, Sky returned to the office with his cargo of sandwiches. "Thank you," ​Pondah said quietly as he took his two. Swiftly, he moved towards the secluded desk in the corner and began to eat. The earthy flavours of the daffodil and the mild sweetness of the daisies danced in Pondah's mouth as he devoured his meal.

 

'These must've cost a fortune! How will I get the money to pay Mr. Sky back?'

Ember couldn't help but smile watching Caramel look at the rain.  Part of him wanted to go over to that window to watch with her, though the rest of him couldn't get over the thought that he would be that close to the window.  I'm a right coward, aren't I?  Can't even bring myself to go to a window when it's storming outside...  When she turned to look at him he made himself smile again, not wanting his thoughts to ruin her view of the storm.

As Sky comes back with the food, Ember turns to go get his food.  He smiles at Pondah as he walks past, picking up one of the sandwiches with a levitation spell before looking at Sky.

 

"Thanks a lot Sky, but won't ya let me at least do something to pay ya back?  You've already been very kind to save us, well, me, from the storm...  I'd like to at least do something in return."  He chuckles softly as he takes a bite from the sandwich he picked up.  "I don't suppose you'd want any fireworks, would ya?"

Sky looked to Ember at the mention of fireworks. "Fireworks would be great for the city. It would be a great way to show the city that its weather team is back in business. Just let me check.." as he pulls out a small book from his saddle bag, in it, the weather forecast for the week. "Tomorrow should be good!" as he than let out a sigh. "I'll just be clearing clouds all day a guess." he said with a chuckle.

 

His attention went to his first sandwich as he devoured it. He than put the second sandwich back in the saddle bag with the other two.
 

"I'll be back in a bit guys, I'm just going to....check on the storm...If you guys want to clean the whole place while I'm gone, go ahead."

 

As Sky took off, he flew up through the clouds to check out everything from above the storm, before sitting quietly on a cloud, thinking to himself before flying towards a hotel.

Part 2!

 

Sky neared the hotel, landing near the steps where he had been just a few hours ago when the storm started. Standing there at the desk, He rings the bell.

 

"Um....I'm looking for Miss Bubble. Could you tell me what room she would be in please?"

 

After Sky receives the directions to the room, he slowly begins the climb to her room.

It took a minute or so and a number of loud crashes could be heard from inside the room, but Bubbles face soon emerged in a small space to one side as she cracked the door open by just enough to fit her head through.

 

"Sky? Whats wrong?" She asked brightly - the blank smile having turned back to its usual, genuine looking form since she had last seen him. A thin tendril of smoke seeped through the door at her hooves. "I told you, I'm okay! Just.... doing stuff. You know!"

 

Her eyes were partially concealed by the goggles she was now wearing again: the lenses having been replaced with deep-purple tinted ones. 

 

"How's... uhm... the weather?"

"Well, that storm is really going so that's a good thing. I actually dropped by because I have something for you. Is it Okay if I come in...Are those new goggles?" Sky was having an ADD moment. "And is that smoke?"

 

He gave her a concerned look before remembering what he was going to say.

 

"You are not going to believe this. Pondah is actually accepting help!"

"Oh! I just fixed them." Said the mare with a shrug, raising a hoof to the lenses which now bathed everything she saw in a colour which was much more personal to her. "They're Amethyst."

 

In response to the other questions, the mare looked distinctly uneasy.

 

"Uhm, it's kind of a mess in here right now..." She said honestly, swatting at the black fog around her hooves. "And uh, no - it's not smoke... thats great about Pondah by the way: how did you manage it? I've been trying for days..."

"Your not going to believe this, but I think I scared it into him. I told him I had to talk to him, and that he could rent the spare room in that upstairs apartment for just a bit a month. To be honest, I think he though I was going to fire him for some reason that when he got good news he's been fine ever since."

 

Sky paused for a moment.

 

"That's right, the reason I came," as he opened his saddle bag. "I treated everypony who helped today to sandwiches. Everypony got two. I ate one of mine in the office, and I was kind of hoping that I could eat the other one here with you...."

"Oh! Well I..." 
 
Bubble was cut off by a loud, heavy 'thump' from back within the room: she winced and whipped her head back to look behind her. Gasping, she bolted back into the room and left the door to swing open - grappling with the ramshackle machine as it leaked the black fog into the room.
 
"Stop! Cease! Desist!" She commanded the broken machine until she finally got it under control be breaking off a switch. "Oh! That worked! Well... sort of."

Sky, seeing Bubble in distress trotted over to see if he could help the mare. It was from there he could see what she had been working on. It was some type of machine that looked similar to the ones Cloudsdale used to make clouds.

 

"That's a pretty cool little machine you got there!" Sky said with a smile. "You know, my desk job in Cloudsdale is.....or should I say was....I was engineer in charge of cloud manufacturing and distribution. You did an amazing job on it. So it was fog and not smoke? That means your the first non pegasi to ever make fog or a loosely formed cloud! That's amazing! Your a genius!"

 

As the machine wound down, Sky remembered that he had her sandwiches in his bag. "I bet your hungry from all this work. Would you like a sandwich?"

Taking the sandwich thankfully, Bubble slumped down in one of a very limited amount of clear spaces on the ground and shrugged.
 
"It's my sisters: she designed it. I just tried to copy her plans. She got it to work once... but I broke it." She explained blankly. "She always hated how earth ponies were the only ones who couldn't do anything with the weather... if it worked properly we could work the weather like a unicorn! Making and moving clouds - causing rain and snow and ice without magic or even flight! It just..."
 
Waving a hoof towards the open notebook, she shrugged.
 
"... Cinder's inventions never really follow rules like others do - they shouldn't work but they do! But... I cant do it like she can... It's impossible! I mean, physically impossible! All I can get is this stupid fog!"

"But you see, that's it. Fog is just loosely based water vapor. It is working, it just may need some tuning. I have some blue prints for a cloud machine that we use in Cloudsdale that I can let you barrow to compare."

 

Sky swiped some of the loose parts over so he could sit and took a bite of his remaining sandwich. "You see, all your missing is.......something......think, you've rebuilt cloud machines before." he said aloud. "I bet your just missing a density control. If you'd like, I can take a look at it, however, you do know if you get it to work, you'll have to let Princess Celestia know."

Caramel had gotten so distracted by the rain that she almost didn't see Sky leave. As soon as he did, she quickly left the sill and looked over to see the food the kind pegasus had brought them. With a hearty smile, she trotted over to the feast, "Stand back y'all, I'm starvin up another storm." It was crazy how quickly she devoured the two sandwiches she was given. Caramel wasn't messy in the process though, surprisingly, as she left no crumb a chance to leave the food. She couldn't help but chuckle a little at the faces on the two stallions, "Sorry...forgot my manners. By the way," the mare continued thoughtfully, "I think I should do somethin to pay ole Sky back. Maybe a little ditty er two?" Caramel tapped her chin with her hoof as she thought of what would best repay him...understanding she lacked bits to pay him back with.

Candy gave a snorty laugh at Sunny's joke. Stopping herself the second she heard a snort, putting a hoof over her mouth and blushing. "Eheheh...oops..." She hadn't remembered herself ever laughing like that before. She maintained her blush, "Sorry about that...but uhm...I'd love to be there when it happens, too." She chuckled nervously, still embarrassed about the snort.

Bubble shrugged,

 

"I'm not going to be able to fix it: Cinder couldn't do it herself - it was only be accident that it ever worked at all! Anyway, it's not important." She said, trying to steer the discussion away from her sisters invention. "How are things back at the office? Sorry for walking out..."

With nothing in view except a desk and his food, Pondah quickly devoured his two sandwiches. A few crumbs dotted the desk but a deft sweep of a hoof soon had all of them into Pondah's gaping mouth. He turned to see that Sky had left the building. Pondah moved towards the stairs that Sky had taken very slowly, so as to not disturb Sunny from her thoughts.

 

A gentle push so the door open to spotless set of stairs leading to an equally immaculate apartment.

 

'Oh, good. I don't have to clean here.' 

 

Pondah searched through the rooms to find one that he could claim as his own. After opening several doors, Pondah found a bedroom. It contained the traditional furnishings of a bedroom such as: a single bed, a chest of draws and a large dresser. On the floor was a soft round shag-pile carpet, it's deep red fabric co-ordinating with the red and white walls of the bedroom.

 

'Not bad. It's just like my house. Except with a bed. And draws. And a dresser. Oh, not forgetting that these walls are painted and aren't just concrete and that I don't have a rug. In other words, this is just like my house but different in every way conceivable.'

Sky turned to Bubble. He could tell she was changing the subject, but went along with it. "Things are going great...I think....Pondha is really getting the hang of the office I think."

 

Sky stood up and looked out the window as a large flash of lightning lights the hole room. "I'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning, and don't be late." he laughed a bit as he hovered towards the door.

 

"Well, I'm going back for a nap. See you tomorrow."

 

Sky left the hotel, flying high above the storm to stay as dry as possible, finding a stray white cloud, deciding to take a nap on it, for the time being.

Sunny giggled goodnaturedly at Candy's snorty laugh.
"It's okay, your snort was cute," she said, and nuzzled her before adding, "...Almost as cute as your adorable yawn." She chuckled before continuing to nuzzle the mare. 
"You know, you're right. It is nice to just sit here and cuddle with you. Not that we didn't cuddle already," she chuckled.

Not receiving any sort of answer from his guest, Rut-Light decided to go on ahead and trot on towards his room, or more likely; his bedroom that had a heck of a lot of trains in it.  His bedroom was, to him, locomotive heaven and every single engine on display a-top the many pristine, white shelves adorning his wall cost him a hefty price, ranging from 238 bits to a jaw dropping 1274 bits.  Trotting though opening the door that led to his large room, he just stood there and stared at the complexion before him: on a very large,wooden table in the corner of the room held a detailed model railway of a small portion of the rails he worked on.  He then figured out that he was in such awe that he forgot he had a guest in his home.  Turning toward the door he said, "Hey mister, can I get you anything?"

Pondah grew tired of looking around the room he was borrowing and turned away. He walked back down into the main office room to see that Sunny and Ember hadn't moved or done anything new. Pondah walked towards the door and prepared to brave the storm.

 

"Excuse me," he said in a voice that was soft but loud enough for Suuny and Ember to hear. "There's something I urgently need to do. Don't mess anything up or I'll have to clean up again and possibly lose my job."

 

Slowly, Pondah edged open the door and a thunderous gale shunted it open. Droplets of rain misted Pondah's face as he pushed his way through the door. The thumped shut behind him as he buried his face in his mane-scarf.

 

'It's going to be hard, but I need to find out the price of those sandwiches. I'm keeping this secret. I can't have Sky trying to stop me paying my debts.'

 

A slow trudge was all Pondah could reach through the storm as he made his way to the nearest sandwich store he could find.

Ember blinked as Pondah left, unable to comprehend why the other pony would willingly go out into the storm.  During the short time that the door is open he flinches out of reflex and shakes his head.  "I need something to distract me..."

 

Seeing that most of the desks they had moved didn't seem to belong to anypony in particular, Ember decided to borrow one of them (the one farthest from the windows).  Levitating his saddlebags over to the desk, the unicorn took out some of his supplies.  "Nothin' like a bit of work to take my mind off the rain..."  Ember quietly talks under his breath as he starts to take different reagents from their jars and combine them in careful measurements, as though going over what each item is as he puts them together.

Sky awoke as a large clash of thunder struck behind him, as he looked to the sun to see what time of day it was. Streching his wings, he yawned and checked the level of the storm.

 

"About three more hours left of rain." he said to himself before flying through a small opening onto the sidewalk in front of the office. He dose a quick double take as he sees Pondah walking away from the office. He was confused at first, but though to himself that Pondah was a strange pony anyway, maybe this was his way of taking a shower...Something Sky would have to fix if this was the case.

As Sky enters the office, a gust of wind with a small amount of moisture blows in, but Sky quickly shuts the door.

 

"About three hours left of rain, than you should be able to go on your way, No rain what so ever." He said to the two. "Until then, I have an idea to pass the time....If you want to of course."

 

Sky walks over to his bags that the hotel staff bough over when he got Removed from his room.

"I should have some cards if anypony wants to pass the time."

Caramel turned with a wide grin to Sky, "Thank ya kindly for the update Sky, it's much appreciated friend." Then, with a quick ruffle of her mane, the mare walked over to Sky as he searched in his bag patiently. She proceed to speak to him quietly in order not to disturb Ember from his work, "I'm not a hundred and ten percent sure Ember would want to toss them cards around much. The feller's getting ready for a big show we're gonna throw," the mare seemed excited as the words came off tongue, "But if ya want, I could play some cards with ya. I ain't much good at the gamblin' games though."
