Wow, these are absolutely fantastic. The texturing/shading is superb and the lighting in the last piece is full of life and luminescence.

@@SCS

Thank you, SCS!  Though I know I still require a lot more practice, it makes me smile to know that I'm improving in some way.  This is especially true with the colored piece, as it had been a while since I last tried my hand at colored pencil when I made it.  If only the tooth of the paper wouldn't have been so apparent throughout the piece, it may have looked better.

Ah well, lesson learned.  Thanks again!

@,

Thank you most sincerely!  As for selling, I have considered it, but I haven't encountered many that have shown any interest in buying.  Though I do have high hopes on my vendor application being accepted from this year's BronyCon, so that's a possibility.  I suppose we'll see what happens.

Thanks again!

Thank you most sincerely! ^^  I really do appreciate that and I'll be sure to post more once I have something.

Business cards, among other things, are definitely on the long list of supplies that I'll need if my application does go through.  Lots of planning ahead, and I'm so ready for it! ^^

Well, not much to show right not.  I just started a Tumblr page the other day and I decided to have one of my first posts as a WIP of Zecora.  So, here it is:

Unfortunately, I've only got the base layer of color down and some very basic shading since then, but I do hope to have it finished soon.

As always, any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks everyone and take care!

Birthday gift for Earthsong9405

Love it :pinkie:

Sunset Shimmer sketch

Looks great, though at first glance I thought it was Trixie. I guess I can chalk that up to Sunset'hair walking far better on a human.

Come to think about it, are you planning on doing human versions at some point?

Scoots and Cheerilee

Love the expressions. Cheerile looks maybe a bit too thin, not helped by the perspective.

Phoenix Guard sketch

Unlikely Pair (Bulk and Octavia)

Big Mac - Color Test

This is the only one I can't quite enjoy; the ointy nose in combination with the weak chin makes Mac look kiinda shifty/rodentlike.

Also, this colouring doesn't really work for me; all the white spots make the whole thing look way too cold (maybe that's the scanning progress?).

I don't know how good you are with digital colouring, but I think a Disney-esque cel shading would look absolutely great for your style.

a WIP of Zecora

Looks great so far.

You'll want to watch the perspective/curvature on the neck rings.

I'll be quite frank that I'm only posting this to see if anyone has any thoughts or opinions on this WIP thus far.  I don't mind posting an initial sketch and, of course, the finished product, but I'm a bit leery on posting something that is only midway to completion.  But since I'm still trying to get into the swing of using colored pencils again, any comments or critiques would be most welcome.  So please feel free to share.

@@Silverwisp the Bard,

Thank you Silverwisp, and I'm happy to hear that you like most of what I had to share ^^  And to answer your first question, I have considered doing human version of the Mane 6 and some background characters, but often other ideas and projects seem to jump ahead of that.  Plus, no one really seemed interested in that idea from me, so I suppose that's another reason why I never pursued it.  I can always give it a try though.  Any suggestions on who I should try first?

You also seem rather keen to the 'Phoenix Guard' and the 'Unlikely Pait' pieces.  I'm just curious, any particular reason why you seemed to favor those?

I will agree that though the colored Big Mac was an interesting experiment, there are quite a few glaring issues with it.  The anatomy looked a lot better in the initial sketch, so I'm not sure how it was lost in translation when I added color.  The white spots that you mention are a result of me not burnishing the colored pencil correctly, resulting in it being splotchy and showing the teeth of the paper.  And, of course, the scanner seemed to pick up every single on it could ^^;

As for the shading, I've always enjoyed a more realistic approach, allowing the shading to define the form rather than line work  However, I'm also trying to experiment more with my techniques, to broaden my skills, so I'll have to try a bit of cel-shading on my next go.  Digital painting is also not really possible for me, since my computer is a bit outdated and has enough trouble just loading my web browser, let alone a painting program.  Sad thing is that I have a Wacom tablet, and I can't even use it.

Thanks again Silverwisp, as it is always a pleasure to cross paths with you! ^^

@,

Thank you again.  'Tis always appreciated ^^

Take care everyone!

Well, after several hours of work and numerous distractions, I finally managed to put the finishing touches on Zecora while giving my colored pencils a healthy work out.  I'm still considering on whether or not to add a simple violet wash as a background, to help bring up the colors on the main piece a bit more, but this is good enough for the time being.  Though far from perfect by any standards, I'd say it's leaps and bounds better than the last colored piece I did (sorry, Big Mac XD ) and it was certainly a learning experience.  So, I'll chalk that up as a small win for me.

Thank you very much!  I really do appreciate that and I'm especially happy to hear that the eyes turned out well to you.  Among all else, I feel that the eyes are among the most important feature, so it's important to get them right.  They are the gateway to the soul, after all ^^

Anyway, onto another WIP.  This one is a bit different, as this is the first time I've experimented with this sort of perspective/point of view as well as incorporating some sort of scale to the entire thing.  I know it's still rough and imperfect, as I'm sure there are features and what not that may need adjusted, so feel free to point out anything that may seem amiss.  And, as always, please feel free to share any other thoughts and critiques you may have, as they are always appreciated.  Thanks everyone and take care!

I'm a little short on time, so I can't type out as much as I'd like.  Both of these are probably not my best work but I still wanted to share them and see if I can get any opinions.  I'll be sure to edit this once I actually have the time though.  Sorry ^^;

Take care everyone and thanks for taking a look!

And let's just toss another one up for good measure ^^  Sorry that this one's a bit on the light side.  No matter what I tried, I just couldn't get it darker without making it look worse.

The CMC.

You also seem rather keen to the 'Phoenix Guard' and the 'Unlikely Pait' pieces.  I'm just curious, any particular reason why you seemed to favor those?

The Gguar becaus of my personal interest in ponies in armour and how different artist approach it.

The pairing... not entirely sure. I do have a weak spot for pairings that include a height difference (Sparity, Shovel and Shield Knight etc.). It just works for me, I guess.

Zecora:

I do like this a whole lot more than the Big Mac piece.

The white spots are still a bit irritating (do you have the means to photograph your works? It might work better for the colour pieces).

-The line of her mohawk looks a bit odd; I feel witrh her head at that angle, the lower part of the comb should be further into the rotation.

-The loak looks a bit to shiny to me (though this is mostly because I alaways imagined it to be roughspun, your interpretation could vary).

-The lower white part of the comb seems a bit too bright compared to the upper one.

If you're still planning on doing a background, maybe a somewhat stylized forest scape in ark greens?

All that nagging side, I really like this, hope you can find the time to do more.

Twilight vs Twilight (2nd version):

Very cool piece, kudos on the perspective.

-I feel the curve of Twilight's neck could be a bit closer to the first version

-Twi's right wing could be a bit more outstretched

-it looks like Tirek is looking juuust apast her

Rainbow Dash:

Awwwww

Love it!

Maybe attach the wing a bit lower on the body.

Cadence:

Royal Sisters:

Celestias hindleg seem a bit too far apart for a standing position,
