Why The Hub Fan Favorite Pony Campaign Was Unfair.

Harmony And Rarity

Recommended Posts

Before I start I would ask that you guys don't merge because this is something that could go on for a while.

First of all, congrats to Fluttershy. But the polls were unfair! I mean, who thought that each day someone could have 11 votes. And all it takes is a few dedicated Fluttershy Bronies to go on everyday and vote 11 times. I love the fandom but I feel like even though bronies are like 75% of the fandom. Hasbro still has everything goaled to little girls. if Bronies were the only people who watched. I guarantee we would not be able to have 11 votes. What do you guys think?

Why does this only apply to Fluttershy? I went on every day and gave 11 votes to Rainbow Dash. I'm sure lots of bronies did the same for each pony there. The fact that she won just means she had more votes than any other - because, evidently, more people call Fluttershy their favourite character.

While this is true, the same could be said of Rarity fans, Applejack fans, RD fans, ect. And there certainly were fans from all followings doing this. In fact, at a time Rarity was the one leading the pack.

I'm not so sure. When EA sports had their cover athlete vote for NHL 14 this year you were allowed to vote 10 times per day there too, and I'm certain that poll was aimed at all ages, if not the older audience. It just seems like that's how things are often done these days for polls of this nature. I'd like to see how close the polls were though, or know if the 11 votes had a huge effect vs if we only got one vote to use. I imagine though that it'd still turn out approximately similar to most other polls. And I'd wager a guess that RD and Fluttershy were pretty close to tied in the end.

It's not unfair, as mentioned above, it's not actually an uncommon thing for polls to do. In addition, there were dedicated fans from all sides voting everyday consistently for their favorite pony, whether or not that ended up being Fluttershy. Fluttershy won fairly.

Agreed with the above. The amount of votes per day makes little difference, the final result would still be the same.

So no, it was not unfair. As to whether or not it could have been done better.... no idea.

Well it is technically fair because each pony theoretically had the same chance of winning. Each of them could be voted for 11 times a day. Fluttershy is probably lucky considering she's one of the usual fan favorites of the brony community so that means that every brony that voted gave her at least one vote while some of the others didn't get one sometimes.

I'm not taking in the consideration of any "hyper" bronies that spam voted for Fluttershy.

It is inevitable. Fluttershy won. You can't change it. Even I want twilight to win anyway

It's a fair sport. I was kinda happy when she won instead of Rarity (My least favorite mane six) I actually did 4 votes on twi, 3 votes on flutters and 3 votes for pinkie.

I was disappointed that rarity almost won but Fluttershy won instead ;). She was also considered my 3rd of my favorite mane six.

Well ;)

I would rather have ANY mane 6 member win instead of Fluttershy.

My least favorite mane 6 member is Fluttershy and seeing her win was both disappointing and sadly predictable.

HOWEVER, since you could vote for each mane 6 member around 11 times...it was still technically fair.

Newsflash! That can be said for every other pony. Fluttershy won fair and square. Everyone had 11 votes a day, so any of the ponies had a fair shot at winning. It just so happens that Fluttershy won because she received the most votes. There were dedicated fans across the board.

Also, Congratz Flutters! :D

I actually have no problem with Fluttershy and i'm happy that she won. My main concern was the voting system. I just feel like some of the bronies out there got around the whole 11 votes per day by using more than one IP address

No doubt some did. However, I challenge you to come up with a voting system that can't be abused in such a way. Singular vote? Same problem. Account based voting? Make extra accounts. Online voting for anything will always be susceptible to abuse by those so inclined.

Well like other posters said, we were allowed to vote multiple times, so just that can be considered unfair in one sort perspective. Also, not all the bronies voted, I can assure you that. I betcha some either didn't bother with it, cause you know, they're not into those sort of things, or some simply didn't know about that.

Heck, I didn't know about it till like just a month ago.

Plus, this only proves that Fluttershy is in fact, a "fan favorite." Everypony is best pony really. Realistically, no single pony is best pony because we have too many differentiating opinions and tastes.

Whatever pony you think is best pony, can still be best pony to you.

I still think and believe Pinkie Pie is best pony, and she should've won easily!!!

But you know what, it was a contest and various fans voted. Fluttershy was commonly favored among them. She won. So in a way it's fair.

Depends how you define fair.

Regardless, this doesn't mean Fluttershy is best pony to me. She is my second favorite, right behind Pinkie Pie. Nothing's changed for me.

I for one congratulate her.

Way to go Fluttershy!  :squee:

Don't worry fans. There is no need to be upset.

It is just a fan poll really.  :comeatus:

the thing is, every person was allowed to vote up to 11 times. i think the reason Fluttershy won, or at least a very reasonable cause, is that she had a lot of fans voting for her. there were more people willing to vote for her than the others. it's not necessarily about how many votes someone gets, but how many voters choose a certain character.

I would say that it was skewed a bit much for my taste. Yes any hard core fan of any of the ponies could have voted for them 11 times every day but some of the ponies have more of those fans than others. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, either of whom could have easily won even under a poll where you could only vote once are favored in such a system. There aren't as many fans of Applejack as there are of Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash but the fans she does have are very dedicated and driven so I could see how it could have possibly place her a bit higher as well (it is seriously driving me nuts that I still don't know the exact numbers). Of course this isn't unique to this particular poll as it is one of the most common problems of internet polls, I am curious as to who would have won if people weren't allowed to multi vote every day. Fluttershy may still have won or it could have been Rainbow Dash or Twilight, but it would have been a more accurate count.

I think you're forgetting what this even was - an indication of which pony is generally the most favourite. If there was some way for Fluttershy fans, and only Fluttershy fans, to vote more times or anything, that would be unfair.

But to say that it's unfair for a character to win a popularity contest because they're popular is ridiculous.

To be honest, I think it's plenty fair. I'm not saying this because I love Fluttershy, and no I did not vote. It kinda sounds like to me some people are upset about this is because their favorite pony wasn't picked....that's just how I see it...but all in all, back on topic, I think it's fair, because it shows how many people love a certain pony.

I know I shot myself in the hoof with the way the voting happened. I got my 11 votes. 10 went to Dashie, one to Fluttershy...because you can not not vote at least once for that cuteness.

Just think of how many bronies may have done the same thing. "So and so is my favorite pony, but I give at least one or two votes to my original favorite pony."

I know some people voted way more than 11 times a day. probably going to computer labs or using tons of peoples computers or something that allows them to bypass the 11 votes, Rarity fans must have been doing that on some hardcore status than fluttershy boys came in and did the same.
