Today at the end of the surprise Wii Fit U-based Nintendo Direct, Nintendo global president Iwata announced Wii Sports Club. It is basically a HD eShop free-to-play remake of the original Wii Sports game that launched alongside the Wii console back in 2006. This version of the game adds improved HD graphics, Miiverse integration, Wii Motion Plus, and online multiplayer for each sport.

The Wii Sports Club app will be available on the Wii U eShop on November 7th. It will come with the bowling and tennis sports, both of which will be free for 24 hours. After that, they must be purchased like the other free sports. Here are the two purchasing options:

- Club Pass: This allows you to purchase each sport for permanent unlimited use. The cost will be $10 per sport.(They are 5 sports, so $10-50 depending on how many you purchase.)

- Day Pass: This allows you to purchase each sport for 24 hour unlimited use. The cost will be $2 per sport.

Thoughts? Though I think the prices are a bit high, this is certainly an interesting experiment. Color me interested!

So they're making the sports that come with the Wii for free cost something? Nintendo, I don't think you can afford to do that. You're already in the shit boat on the shit river, do you really need to lose your paddle?

*sigh* ignorant hate is ignorant. Did you click on the link or read all of my post? you have to PAY for the separate sports. Don't jump to conclusions without reading the source article.

No, I get that. I read it. I'm just saying that it's kinda pointless and a really bad idea to make an originally free game, cost something. Even if they're $10, it's still kinda high, especially for Nintendo...

Admittingly $10 for permanent unlimited use is high, but this is a pretty cool idea nonetheless. This would cost a max of $30 for me, since I'd get boxing, bowling, and maybe baseball.

Its like there trying to almost pay a Gym membership for not going to the Gym and using an imitation sports game from home...

How can they even do this? Why would you do this?

Well think of it like this: You might not like every sport in the game. I liked 3 out of the 5 sports. Instead of having to pay a full $50, I can instead purchase the sports I want separately for less. It is a pretty good idea.

First off I'd like to say that Mr. Iwata's English is getting much better.  ^_^

I just finished watching the Wiiu Fit Direct video and it was pretty cool. I like the idea of the new pedometer thing that can measure normal things like how far you walked and traveled and also can detect if you are actually working up a sweat while your changing elevation too. The new Wii Sports Club seems like a fun addition aswell. The prices are somewhat steep but you do get a full 24 hour trial period to test it out before you pay anything which is great. The choices they give you are pretty good I would personally just pay the $9.99 that it would cost you to get the individual sport but that's just me. I can't wait for it to come out so I can give it a go!

Meh. Wii Sports is one of those things that I played for maybe five seconds. There's no way I'd ever pay for it.

Then again, that's just a general trend for the Wii U. Until Mario Kart 8 comes out, I don't see anything worth purchasing, to be honest.

Okay, first off, you confused me when you said "free-to-play" and then mentioned they're only free for the first day... After that, you either buy the sports or buy time. Where's the free-to-play?

Onto the main topic. I wouldn't spend a dime on Wii Sports, it's just not very fun, so this has no appeal to me. The online angle is interesting, but if I don't even want to play the game offline with my family and friends in the same room, why would I play it online?

It's FTP because you download the app for free than after 24 hours, you have to pay for the sports. I personally had a lot of fun with the original version.

No wonder you confused me, that's a free trial. When I hear free-to-play (f2p), I'm thinking of something much different than that. This is a try before you buy kind of deal, not exactly what I would call a free to play game.

While $10 may be a bit pricey for an individual sport, it does give you the option to not buy a sport you don’t care about anyway. The $2 day pass thing sounds good for party's. Having Online play and MotionPlus Functionailty is great too. So overall i think its pretty good.

I'm actually very okay with this. The fact that it's taking Wii Sports online and adding some Remote+ functionality could is something I can actually get behind. Especially with baseball, I felt that the bat could use a little more oomph with more a more accurate swing. The only other baseball game that used Remote+ was... urgh. Backyard Baseball: Sandlot Sluggers. Knowing Atari, I can't imagine that was implemented very well. And let's not forget beating people up online with no repercussions in Boxing. Going after the AI gets very tiring after a few years. XP

Although to be honest I'd prefer paying $7.50 for a sport at most rather than $10. I don't think all five games would add up to a $50 package.

Interesting that Nintendo is doing this, turning a game famous for its local play into an online game with trial periods, or at least individual ones... I don't know if I like it considering the original is a $20 game and with this you have to pay $30 more than that if you want all the games, but we'll see how they do with this(and if they add more stuff like Resort games, hopefully).

Oh, I would LOVE to be able to do some Swordplay or Cycling events online, those two are my personal favorite sports from Resort.

Yeah, that's free-to-play. :P

But at that point, you can't play any of the games for free; you have to buy them to play afterwards. I don't see anything free about this besides the trial; the games are just sold separately.

You trolling me?

The point of FTP is to download some of the game for free, then if you want the rest of the parts of the game, you have to pay for them through microtransactions. It's not rocket-science.

Yeah, that's exactly my point. You downloaded the game and got to play it for a while and then you have none (not some) of the game afterwards until you purchase it or at least part of it or pay to play it for a limited time. I hope you can see why it sounds like a free trial to me.

*Sigh*...I give up lol.

Anyway, if this is successful I can see the original Wii Play game getting a similar treatment. I can also see more sports getting added over time.
