visual art My Art (need critique.)

This is some stuff I sketched.

I spent the most time on the one in the middle, and spent the least time on the one at the bottom.

These sketches were made by request, so I figured I'd do it. Here they are:

Yeah, God awfully horrendous, right? I'm not a full time artist, but I figured I'd do this. And yes, it is supposed to be 2-D. I have never been good at 3-D, and everyone likes my 2-D stuff. Thoughts?

I feel the drawing is too 2D, what I mean is, when you try to represent a 3D object using entirely 2 dimension it comes out weird. What you want to do is try to draw some 3D balls, curves that make the ball look 3D, after that, when you draw faces, try to draw a 3D oval, outline a curve where you think eyes should be (yes, it's a curve, if you try to draw facial features on a straight line it ends up looking weird.) I feel a thin curve across the face will also helps you line up facial features.

This would help you get better, and when/if you do try and traw a 3D ball, give it some shading. Shadows always help it to look more 3D, and always gives it more realism.

My art style is 2-D. I've been doing it for years when I took art class.

My art teacher gave up on my 3-D, and said to do 2-D. And he liked it, so that is my style. Sorry that I forgot to say that.

I think as long as you are interested in drawing might as well try to do it better am I right? You can draw this and see if it helps you draw 3-D:

Have you taken geometry in math class? You draw a x-axis, a y-axis, now you draw a diagonal line across the intersection of your x and y axis. That is the z-axis, it represent the third dimension. Now try to draw an object using all three axis. It may gives you a feel of the dimensions.

I'll give it a try, but I'll be opening requests for 2-D soon, if anyone wants a 2-D drawing.

I'll give that a go. Thanks!

Your proportions are rather good. Even now, I have trouble getting the shoulders in proportion to the head.

You could use more fluidity and "naturalness" in your drawings - for this, I recommend doing very loose gestural drawings from real life people. They should only be a couple minutes tops, ten seconds minimum. The focus is to get an "essence" impression of what you're drawing, before you start adding any details.

Though real life people are best, this site is very good for gesture drawing: http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/

You don't need to do shading and stuff - the main thing is just getting the flow of the figure. Don't care about how it looks - all that matters is that you're practicing!
