Midnight Sky

Just when he was ready to just forget about trying to get to the end of the hall, Midnight saw a bright blue light coming from far ahead and he watched as it got closer and closer. The closer the light came, the more Midnight felt the urge to move forward, it was like some instinct he had never known was ushering him towards the light, he could feel the pull of it in his horn. "No doubt about it. That has to be the Litany of Magic. I should hurry, things might get tricky soon with Orion in the temple. Time to head towards the light." Midnight said to himself before picking up the pace until he was running towards the source of the intense magical power. He just hoped the others were going to be there once he arrived.

Sunshine Rays

While she and Mirror hadn't talked in a while, she was still aware of Mirror walking beside her. And no matter how hard she looked Sunshine couldn't find another path, and apparently neither could Mirror. Just then a bright blue light came from a wall up ahead, and Sunshine watched the wall open up like a door revealing a path that led straight to the source of the light. "Look Mirror! Another path!" Sunshine exclaimed before starting down the new path. Wherever it went, it was better than a dead end hallway. And who knows, maybe Midnight would be there too.

"Zintiik, wait!" Willow gave a small sigh. "Am I really that much of a disturbance? I guess that's why I don't make much friends.." Willow frowned to herself and continued onward, watching Zintiik go to the front of the group. She didn't think of it as much, but she knew that they were nearing the Litany. And Orion was going to read it.. she was afraid that Orion wouldn't be himself after reading the rest of the Litany.. more duties and more responsibilities.

She didn't want him to not care for her anymore.. he seemed to think that he would be able to reverse its effects. She was afraid that he would forget her and leave her to be an orphan.. leave her alone with no family. She decided she had to do everything in her will to stop him from reading from it.

She trotted over to Orion, who seemed to be talking to himself. "Um, Orion? Are you sure about reading from the Litany?"

Blast

As the light of the Litany spread through the cave, the shadow figures beating down on Blast and Eclipse just sort of disappeared. The light must've weakened them. When it happened, the stallions rose to their hooves and stared into the Litany's light.

"Oh my gosh... it that... the Litany...?" Blast asked, not taking his eyes off of the light. "It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever laid eyes upon..."

Scribbler stuck by Orion's side, his horn now crackling from the Litany's oppressive magical aura. There was no casting now, he was at the mercy of his physical traits alone, and unfortunately, they included more brain power than physical. He felt the Litany drawing him, like a strong undertow, into the chamber where it lay. Willow suddenly came up from behind, Scribbler moved aside to let her in beside her brother. He maintained pace, and said nothing. "This is the most powerful thing I've ever witnessed in my life. I now stand next to the last two who've read from it, and I don't know what to do.. If I attempt to destroy the book, and it works. We're all saved. If I fail, we.. well, I would surely be destroyed by one angry and powerful alicorn for betraying his trust in me." The questions and plots flowed through Scribblers brain, but none lead to anything he hadn't already thought of. He needed new information.. This was a position he'd often found himself in before, and always solved it with just a little bit more information. Perhaps seeing the Litany himself would answer some things, or so he hoped. The light from the litany was becoming more than Scribbler could bare. He reached into his pack for his goggles once again, and placed them on his head, adjusting the tint to the appropriate level.

@@Windbreaker,

Orion's eyes were practically useless in the room: Legion had restored his improved sight just in time for him to witness the intense light, and the added ability to visibly see the aura of magic... didn't exactly help when faced with the Litany if magic itself.

The oppression of the spell strengthened and shifted - as if warping, reacting to his own power - to the power inside him. He could feel the wings reforming by his sides - physical objects of pure magic - but couldn't use them. His horn shone more brightly than ever before but he could feel the stunted magic locked away inside him. While he was an Alicorn in appearance again, this close to the Litany, it was in appearance alone. Here, under the watch of the Litany, he was equal to anypony else.

Stepping forward with due reverence, he began to slowly - almost ceremoniously - approach the blinding pedestal in the centre of the room.

"I think it is... It's beautiful..."

Kingfisher moved as quickly as she could without breaking into a run - reaching the door and staggering to a halt as a feeling of awe washed over her. It was as if she were in the presence of some great being - not simply a book.

Like a filly watching Princess Celestia raise the sun for the first time.

"It feels like... can you feel it? Like it knows we're here?" she mumbled breathlessly.

Redwave.

The light called out to Redwave: he felt a longing for it stir in his chest - where the sickness lay. The gem he wore seemed to lift away slightly - pulling forward, urging him on.

He hung back though - just behind the group: the light made hiding in the shadows impossible but hopefully their attention would be drawn towards the light just as his was.

Zintiik slowed to a stop as the Litany came into sight, trembling slightly.  The sheer power of the magic in this room at least had the benefit of giving the changeling just a small amount of control over his natural abilities again - enough so that he was able to make himself look like a regular changeling again.  He turns to glance at Orion and Willow, gasping slightly to see that Orion was once more an alicorn.

He moves behind the others, once more bringing up the back of the group behind Willow and Orion.  This power...  It's too much...  A changeling was never meant to see something like this!  He continues to walk slowly behind the others, not wanting to get near the Litany but not wanting to be left by himself either.

"This...  This is it?"  She nods slightly in agreement as the others remark about the beauty of the book before forcing herself to start walking forward.  It felt wrong...  As though she should be lined up before the Litany on guard duty rather than approaching it in this way.  It would be like approaching one of the Princesses when she was supposed to be working.

She makes herself take another step, starting a slow pace.  One hoof in front of the other.  Without taking her eyes off of the Litany she calls back to the others as she walks.  "C'mon, we came all this way to find it, right?  Let's get it and get out of this place..."

Five, maybe six. I can't tell where they are, it's too difficult to see through the aura. Be on your guard, friend." He patted his shoulder, and turned to where he thought he could hear the most sound coming from. Ready to defend his companion. He turned to the rest of the group, and motioned to them to gather close. "We are not alone here, stay alert." He knew this would be a blind fight for either side, at least as long as the Litany's glow continued. He was not equipped for a head on fight, but his goggles allowed him a slight shield from the blinding glow. This gave him a slight advantage, but only slight, as his magic would be of no use, should he meet with trouble. He remembered what Orion had asked of him, and he felt now, this was the time to be ready to fulfill his duty. "Orion, you must lead us here, this is your domain. None of us understand this power as you do.. I will follow your lead, and I will protect Willow, as you requested. But what of the others who seek the Litany? Scribbler turned to Orion, hearing him fall. "Orion, what is it? Are you alright?" He glanced over his shoulder, noting the figures beginning to show through the glow. He ignored them at first, and spoke quietly to Orion, keeping it between them, it would be his last chance to do something it seemed, before things really erupted. "Orion.. If you need, I can carry it. If it's causing you this pain. You can trust me with this, we can take it from this place and get out of the dungeon, but we must act quickly."  Scribbler, for the first time, felt some form of clarity on what he should do. With determination in his eyes he quickly ran around Orion to the pedestal, and approached the litany, swapped it with one of his own books of similar size, and moved back to Orion. with it in his hoof. Being careful not to hold it in sight of anypony who was entering from the other side. "This is it, what will you do? I can hide it.. but it seems like they're drawn to it's energy.. It's as if the book it's self is tempting us all to read it." he held the book to Orion, awaiting his response.

Something gave.

Whether it was some trick of the Litany, some defensive spell or simply an all-or-nothing push of his mind to save what was left of its sanity - Orion shuddered as the Litany was brought close - his head wracked with agony as the etherial horn and wings gleamed more brightly than before. Almost as if in slow motion, his legs gave way beneath him - crashing to the ground with a pitifully quiet 'thump'.

The light filling the room pulsed a pure white with an ominous ripping sound, before fading. Still bright, but no longer blinding. Laying face down, Orion tried to drag himself upright... before he saw it.

Twitching helplessly on the ground as the pain of being separated from his own thoughts wracked his nervous system, the unicorn looked up at the ghostly Alicorn standing over him - the wings and horn which had been a part of him until only moments ago attached to a matching body: a face that was almost like his own, but somehow seemed... empty.

"This is... new." Legion mused for a moment, looking about the chamber as if bored before its eyes settled on Orion's broken form at its hooves. "We did not cause this. We did not know how the Litany would react to our presence." It justified emotionlessly.

The two ponies glared at each other like some twisted mirror: Orion fearful and broken, a unicorn of flesh and blood with a cracked mind - Legion bored and unconcerned, an Alicorn of light and memories free to walk Equestria for the first time.

It turned to look at Midnight - eyes little more than pure light, or perhaps magic - with a blank expression.

"Give us the Litany." it demanded simply.

---------------

"What the buck is that!?" Yelled Kingfisher in a blind panic as the light seemed to fade somewhat - before instinct took over and she drew her sword - eyes glancing back and forth from Pavisa to Blast: to Aegis, Eclipse and Blake.

He looked into the cold, uncaring eyes of the one who'd seemingly birthed it's self from Orion's broken frame, seeing emotion. This creature was not his friend, he knew this instantly. His first instinct was to run, though he did not right away. He withdrew a couple paces, feeling fear, like he'd never known. He had no way aside from taking flight to his hooves in the other direction, and without magic, he would not get far, or so he thought. But what other option was there? It was this, or he risked all of their lives, handing the book over to this being. "You... You're not.. Orion.. Who are you? Why should I trust you with this?" He thought for a moment, maybe buying himself some time for the others to distract the alicorn. If he could get enough distance between them, maybe he could escape the dungeon, and regain his magical abilities. But then, what of Willow? He knew he had a promise to keep. Being caught between a rock and a hard place wasn't where Scribbler had wanted to end up, but here he was.

A plan started to form in the changelings mind.  Not a good plan - in fact, under different circumstances he would have laughed at himself for even thinking of something like this.  But, right now all he knew was he had to get that ghostly alicorn away from Orion and Willow.  The Litany can lure it away.  That's what it wants.

Zintiik may have been weakened by the cave, but the proximity of the book had at least restored his natural abilities to transform.  The changeling switched shapes in a flash to what he believed could cause the best distraction - Zintiik changed into a copy of Orion.

Hoping that Scribbler had seen past the ghostly alicorn and seen him transform, Zintiik moves to the side and holds out a hoof.  "Scribbler, the Litany!  Hurry!"

As he writhed on the ground, his vision was filled with the light of the magic radiating from Legion - he had time to briefly consider the implications of still having the enchanted sight, before he blacked out.

Legion stared blankly at the Unicorn who had refused to give him the Litany, before another approached in what it concluded was a threatening manner.

"You arrogant fools: we are Orion. We are the litany." It said - completely monotone when not emphasizing his words: the end result was an unnerving mixture of cold indifference and unbridled emotion. It's eyes flashed white as the blue fire that Orion had been so fond of started to wrap itself around the Alicorns body.  "The book is a part of us: it belongs to us. We are power incarnate: you can not best us. Now give us the litany!"

"Fisher...  Is that..."  Blinking and shaking her head, the guard starts to run towards the other group with renewed vigor.  Both to try and get ahold of the Litany, but now also to try and get to Redwave.  He had sacrificed himself for her once - she wasn't going to let it happen again!  "Captain Redwave!?"

The combined minds of all who had read the Litany were trapped within it's pages. And now it was taking Orion, and soon, Willow. His magic was slowly returning now, no longer oppressed by the litany, as it's power was now concentrated in the form that stood before him.
Noble threw a crystal towards Legion, what good that would do, he did not know, but he began to speak before anything else could happen, addressing the lot of the group who were attacking one another.
"What will it take for you all to realize? We are all in danger here, this book contains the minds of all who read it.." Scribbler turned to the alicorn once again. "If you restore Orion and Willow's minds.. I will give you the book.." Scribbler held the book tightly, and began charging his horn, ready to ignite it if anypony made a move. "I have no intention to attack you, and I will not destroy this, as long as you restore them.. Let them go, Legion." Scribbler gripped the tome, worry and hope flooded his mind. Would this work? And if not, what then? Would he be able to fulfill his promise to Orion if he had the book? He couldn't just let it go, too much was at stake here.

Redwave.

"Who else would appear to save you all from certain doom? Of course it it is... Sweet sisters of mercy!"

Dropping back away from the Changeling, he watched the dull blood trickle down from the bite for a moment before lunging for the insects legs.

"I have this one: stop him! I am perfectly fine! Mostly..."

---------------

Kingfisher.

"... stop...?" Kingfisher looked blankly at the decidedly ill looking stallion grappling with the Insectoid, then back towards the three ponies facing off. The Alicorn? The one with the book? Or the one with the sword? Neither seemed like particularly good choices for allies... or enemies.

"Stop which one? Which one do we help?!"

---------------

Legion.

This was getting them nowhere: Orion was fading and while Legion had the powers of seventy or so healers throughout the ages - it would prefer to not require them.

"You do not know what you hold in your hooves." It insisted: taking a menacing step away from the sword wielding pony which it did not deem a concern - until some kind of gemstone was thrown. The Aspect of the Litany roared - mostly in frustration: not having felt pain for a good eight hundred years. Raw magical energy pulsed outward from the Alicorn in response: a wave of blunt force unlike anything that Orion had been able to muster.

Breathing heavily as the expulsion of magic seemed to make it's transparent form appear more solid, he turned to face the Unicorn with a snarl.

---------------

Orion Starsinger.

Orion grunted at the force hit him - throwing him across the room until he came to a halt by colliding with the pedastle where the Litany had been found. He lay still: breathing but only barely.

Blake ran up to Kingfisher. "We're all a team now so here's what we do. Split up and work together. I'll help the one with the book, someone help the swordsman, and the other one. Afterwards we stop, that... Thing, torch the litany, and I take you out to dinner." He finishes with a hearty laugh, and smirk. He ran up beside Midnight. "My name's Blake, and I'll be accompanying you in this struggle for survival."

Scribbler flew backwards from the concussive blow, landing next to Orion. He still held the Litany tightly in his arms. His back was sore from hitting the hard floor and his ears rang, but he was relatively fine otherwise. He began to cast an aura spell of his own, a soothing magic, hoping it would dispel the anger. He then got back up, holding the book. Glancing quickly at the new face next to him momentarily, then back to the alicorn. "Legion.. please. Let Orion and Willow go.. Take me instead, if you must. But I cannot let you destroy them. I made a promise, and I will keep it." He charged up once again, ready to burn the book at a moments notice. "This is my last offer.. let them go now."
