In all honesty it's hard to say...she did nothing during the Crystal Empire, but it could be argued that it was just to 'test' Twilight.

 

And of course, there was the whole thing with Discord in both 'Return of Harmony' and 'Keep Calm and Flutter On'.

 

So, it seems like she won't unless her subjects are being immediately threatened like they were with Chrysalis.

She can also do dark magic and yet doesn't use it. I do think she has alot more power than she's shown but to go full out would probably cause alot fo damage to anyone caught within it, regardless of who it is.

 

Luna was able to call in a lightning storm with just her voice.

If Celestia went again her again, I bet she could win. I mean they probably would suspect it, having it happen one time. And Chrysalis won because Shining Armors love for Cadence made her powerful. Who's love would she steal to get that powerful again? Surely not Cadence again!

I was thinking she stole shinning armors love.  Not candences...

 

unless your suggesting in equestria when you give someone your love, you literally give a tangible thing.

 

So for example if say a changeling fed off twilight sparkle wouldn't said changeling if your theory is correct have a chance to feed off Princess celestials' love (no i'm not shipping, apprentice teacher stuff).

 

I never thought about it like that.

Oh XD Sorry! No I should edit that! She did steal Shining Armors love lol. Changelings feed off of love, and that gives them power I guess. Queen Chrysalis did say something like "His love for you has made me ever more powerful then Celestia!"

Well no... that was an awesome theory, i get awesome ideas but hearing the wrong points from people lol.

 

I mean if you gave you love to a changeling would they need to steal it?   I mean theoretically princess celestial herself must be a love buffet in the cast because she's adored by everyone.

Well sure she is loved, but it isn't true love. She's adored, loved, but that love isn't the same love as Cadence and Shining armor have.

I suppose anything is possible.  It's hard to imagine a storyline that involves Celestia defeating an enemy as the final wins are obviously reserved for Twilight, the Mane 6, or possibly Spike.  But for reasons that aren't totally clear, it seems Celestia needs to remain in Canterlot most of the time to oversee things during times of crisis.  She delegates fighting to others, including the Mane 6, partly because the Elements of Harmony are stronger than her magic anyway. 

 

I can see Celestia prevailing over an earlier enemy but needing help against a greater threat later.

If a villain can provoke Celestia into fighting them, then we could see her fight once again. Celestia remains in Canterlot if she sees a threat that could cause a huge crisis in her kingdom, she tells the Mane 6 to fight for her.
