For those to whom I've pitched this idea over the past few weeks, this post has been a relatively long time in the making, but I'm ready to finally disseminate it to the fully forum, after endlessly tweaking the contents of the background and storyline. Just remember, I haven't begun really writing the full story yet. So, here it goes:

Background: The story takes place 10 years after the events of MLP:FiM, with each of the Mane 6 having fully grown into adults and becoming more focused on their career paths. Here is what I envision the Mane 6, as well as the CMC and other characters I figure on featuring prominently in the story as doing with their lives at this point:

 

Twilight Sparkle: After completing her studies, Twilight went on to become a graduate professor at Canterlot University of Magic, in addition to becoming one of Princess Celestia's most trusted advisors.

 

Rainbow Dash: Rainbow Dash initially embarked on a promising career with the Wonderbolts and within her first few seasons, broke nearly every individual racing record before sustaining a career-ending injury to one of her wings, from which she has only recently fully recovered. After her career with the Wonderbolts was cut short, Princess Celestia named Rainbow to her elite Pegasus Guard corps, of which she was recently named commander.

 

Apple Jack: Following the death of Granny Smith, Apple Jack decided to run for Mayor of Ponyville. She easily won and is currently settling into her job as Mayor.

 

Rarity: Rarity managed to break through in the fashion industry after Princess Celestia was seen wearing one of her garments at a royal function. She has since been engaged to marry Prince Blueblood, and the wedding is fast approaching.

 

Fluttershy: Fluttershy managed to get some real professional help in enhancing her assertiveness and self-esteem. It appears to have worked, as she is currently a very vocal student activist at Cloudsdale University, where she is pursuing her doctorate in Veterinary Studies.

 

Pinkie Pie: Having settled down noticeably from her hyperactive youth, the still-fun-loving Pinkie Pie managed to convince the Cakes to take her on as a business partner in Sugarcube Corner, and is currently developing plans to open up her own party shop in Ponyville.

 

Derpy: Derpy is currently attending Cloudsdale University with Fluttershy in order to advance her career beyond being a simple mailmare. She and Fluttershy have grown to become good friends and, even though she doesn't understand a lot of what Fluttershy is talking about in her speeches on campus, Derpy is trying to get involved in student activism to the extent that Fluttershy is.

 

Apple Bloom: Following Apple Jack's election as Mayor of Ponyville and Granny Smith's death, Apple Bloom assumed many of the responsibilities of running Sweet Apple Acres, along with Big Macintosh.

 

Scootaloo: Scootaloo is currently a top prospect for the Wonderbolts and is expected to be called up within the next few months, but not during the current racing season, which is due to end very soon. She is currently President of the Equestrian Weather Managers Union.

 

Sweetie Belle: Sweetie Belle is pursuing a career as a singer, and is currently living with Rarity and her fiance Prince Blueblood, much to the latter's chagrin.

 

Big Mac: Along with Apple Bloom, Big Mac currently assists in running the day-to-day operations of Sweet Apple Acres in order to support his wife Cheerilee and their newborn daughter.

 

Cheerilee: Recently back from maternity leave, Cheerilee was recently elected President of the Equestrian Educators Association (the national teachers union).

 

 

Phew! Now that that's out of the way, here is the story summary:

 

Synopsis: When the Flim Flam Brothers and their associates begin to set up several businesses in Ponyville, Mayor Apple Jack confronts them and orders them to leave the town limits. In response, the Flim Flam Brothers present Apple Jack with a certificate signed by Princess Celestia herself, granting them full license to operate within Ponyville. Shocked, Apple Jack organizes a town meeting to propose setting up a meeting with Princess Celestia to demand an answer as to why Flim Flam & Associates were allowed to operate in Ponyville, and to demand that their license be revoked, lest all the small, family-owned businesses in Ponyville be run out of business.

 

However, after being denied a meeting with Princess Celestia, the disgruntled residents of Ponyville touch off a dramatic series of events that spread to surrounding pony towns and cities, from rural areas to cities to college campuses and eventually to Canterlot itself, with ponies all throughout Equestria protesting against Celestia's rule, with unlikely heroes and terrible tragedies along the way.

 

PLEASE tell me what you think! I'd really appreciate it and I'll be more than happy to privately divulge to anypony who cares to know, just what exactly the events I have in mind for the overall story are and how they are all interconnected!!!

It sounds great! I thought of doing a future-characters story once, but decided i would instead throw a more mythical fantasy twist into mine. I'm looking forward to reading more of this!

I think the story is really nice. The idea seems good, and I could see an interesting story taking root in this post. As to what I think about it more specifically, I think that it seems like applejack is really hostile towards the flim flam brothers, I mean, sure, they nearly drove her out of buisness, but that was 10 years ago! You would think she would have a little more consideration. Also, I find it hard to believe that applejack would ever leave the work on the farm to become mayor, but its not really a big deal. All the other characterisations seemed to make sense to me, and seemed to be believable and even expected. I would say that the whole revolt against celestia seems to come out of nowhere, but I am sure that your actual story will do a much better job than this synopsis ever could, so I am witholding my judgement on that topic. All in all, I see alot of potential in this story, and I really look forward to reading it when it has been written.
