suppose they were to kill of a pet (slice of life problem)

I just had the idea bounce in my head
"How could mlp handle death with kid gloves?"

a pets death.  Dexters labotory had his gold fish die.

I mean i'm pretty sure hasbro could avoid a shit storm,

or even a poopie storm with something like that.

It's something that even little girls inevitable encounter in their life.

So the question is who's pet should they kill (LOL wow that sounds alot darker than it should have).

We have

Angel

tank

Opal

That dog that fallows apple jack around... you know what your not aloud to pick the dog so i doesn't matter what it's called.

Owlishes

And no GE Spike is not a pet, so you can't pick spike.  Yes I'm sure.

or Gummy.

who should die and how?

Personally i wouldn't miss opal ^^.  I mean tank is getting on in years, (I think?) But i'm not had enough of tank bumping people in the head.

We haven't see owlishes in a while.  Princess celesital could end up sitting on him or something.  Realize it and just sorta put the body next to spike when he's sleeping.

Now i'm sure theirs gonna be some flutter shy fans waiting to beat angel to death so i'm just gonna get out of the way now.

I'm open to an episode like this. OP is right; death of a pet is something everyone's going to have to deal with at some point. There was also an episode of Arthur, "So Long, Spanky" that had this happen.

I don't think they should kill any of the established pets, i.e. Angel, Gummy...they should have it be something impersonal and nonemotional (like a goldfish or a frog) that just has an appearance in this one episode. I also think Spike should be the owner of the pet.

yeeeeaaaaahNo.

Killing off a character is a major decision and I really doubt they would want to kill off something that would have such emotional permanence to the characters. In other words, Hasbro wouldn't want to axe somepony that could still potentially be manufactured for a profit.

Moreover, killing a character as close to the Mane cast as a pet would be a very visible and heavy thing to do. Every scene in which it could've been would become a reminder of its death, which would in essence replace that character's former existence with a reminder of mortality. That would be a dangerously grim turn for the show's subject matter.

There's been examples given in the most childish of cartoons even more girly than mlp.  you gave no good hard example,

other than,

A pony will come with one less accessory as a toy.  you know the kind of small accessory a child could swallow and choke on.

Your rebuttal blue?

I don't think they're going to include any kind of death in the show, especially a pet.  I wouldn't want any of them to die.  I'd choose the dog though (Winona).  There's absolutely no reason to bring death into the show.  It wouldn't add anything positive, and if anything, it'd turn one of the characters into a sadsack.  Applejack would probably be the least affected, or show the least emotion over it, since she's already an orphan.

that's cold. Even for a guy like me

"Pff buck apple jack she's dead inside."  Wait a min.... that could be her character development.  being emotionally dead inside, your a genius S.C.

LOL! Okay. tongue.png

What about Owlowiscious since the writers seem to have forgotten he exists anyway. (Same with Spike's pet actually but they gave somewhat of an explanation for him but, I wish they'd said he died, personally.) smile.png

I don't think such an episode is a good idea. Perhaps if said pet goes missing and then is presumed dead until he/she returns at the end of the episode. It would be a bit cliche, but I think it could work.

For this type of episode; it would be best if it were either Fluttershy (Angel) or Applejack (Winona). Both I think could bring out a pretty good deal of characterization for them to deny their trusty companions to be gone forever.

See the problem with spikes pet dying is it's a phonix.  It would come right back.  That thing was bucking adorable.  and yeah the owl going might make sense.

Yeah but they could make up new mythology that if a phonix dies before a certain age it stays dead forever or something. derpy_emoticon2.png

Look, i'm fine with the show playing with death a little,

but they don't need to re invent the wheel lol.

I mean they could lol.  They could come up with some overly sugary bull crap about death, not calling it death, (which is likely what they would do).

It's becoming clearer and clearer lately that MLP Forums is not a good place to be an AJ fan...

Not gonna lie, I wouldn't exactly grieve if Angel were to be taken out of the grand equation, if you know what I mean. I'd mourn over dropping an ice cream sandwich longer than I'd mourn Angel's sudden...disappearance from the show.

Still don't think it's likely to happen, though.
