ponyvangelist 732 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 I got my copy of the Friendship Express DVD today, and am glad to finally have something pony-oriented on DVD, but there are problems. Specifically, on the two episodes I've watched so far (the first two episodes from Season One), the video and sound get out of sync toward the end of the episode. In Episode 1, the problem begins during the party scene in the library and continues to the end. I estimate it's off by about a half a second, which makes it look like a bad dub. In Episode 2, the problem occurs fairly late, as the mane cast gets to the castle of the royal pony sisters, if I recall correctly. It's not off by as much, maybe a quarter-second, but it really blows the feel of the epic conclusion. I haven't had a chance to watch the other episodes yet, but I saw a similar mention of this problem on Amazon, and this seems like a problem that may well be on the gold master for this DVD, I figured I should mention it and see if anyone else here has encountered this problem. Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 February 29, 2012 Founder Share February 29, 2012 My copy is currently on its way. I don't know how long it will take to clear US customs, as I'm importing it into Canada, but I have heard about this audio synchronization problem before and it is a little disappointing. Every single copy of the disc is likely stamped from the same master disc, so the entire first run is going to be affected by this. Senn555 242 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 (edited) As I posted in the other thread, there's a review here (plus comments by InfinityDash, a friend of mine) that points out the positives and negatives on this DVD. http://derpyhoovesnews.com/the-friendship-express-review/ A thread has also been started on Shout! Yea thats kind of the thing, I dont normally pre order brand new shit like that, there always seems to be some sort of flaw with the first batch of everything http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png but in this case its 10 bucks so I guess its not a big deal, still thats very lame, I was thinking of getting a copy but I don't ever see my self watching it as I normally just watch the episodes on my computer
ponyvangelist 732 February 29, 2012 Author Share February 29, 2012 A thread has also been started on Shout! Factory's message boards:Ah, thanks for the links. I posted on the Shout board as well. Since this likely affects all the discs based on the current master, they may have to do a recall, which would be a major hit to the profitability of the release. If the sales numbers are good, though, they may be able to absorb it, and it hopefully wouldn't discourage them down the road. Considering it's a technical issue and has nothing to do with the nature of the content itself, I doubt they would blame the ponies for it. But still, an ill omen for this first release, and it's not like we need more bad news right now.
Mister Jack 566 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 (edited) I've been hearing bad things about the dvd all around. I'm sorry, I love ponies, but I am not going to patronize a shitty job. Edited February 29, 2012 by Mister Jack
GrooveBroove 680 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 IMO I don't get what's so hard for them to just release a quality box set of the first season. Then moving onto the other seasons as they get completed.
Mister Jack 566 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Their justification is that parents are the ones who buy most of these, and they'd prefer to spend 10 dollars rather than 50. Fine, but could you at least put the episodes in the right damn order? You don't see a Funimation DVD chopping up episodes of One Piece all over the place.
Lady Ice Dragon 16 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Hmm, there is definitely a delay on the video in the first episode. I had to watch REALLY closely to spot it, but it is there. Now to watch the other 4 and see how badly they got hit. Theres no way Ill return this disc though, its my hard copy of OD (Original Derpy) Chimi Cherry Chonga! Now With More Sass! Emerald Flame 381 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 I haven't gotten my copy yet, but this is disappointing news. I really hope The Last Roundup wasn't botched too badly, it's the main reason I bought the DVD.

RockinRarity 1,605 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 They left Derpy unaltered for the DVD release? That is fantastic! Well, they probably had to. They probably put it on the DVD as soon as the original episode released, and the iTunes version didn't get put up until days before the release date for this DVD, and by that point, the DVDs were probably already on their way to US stores, if they hadn't been there already. We'll have to see if they keep the original episode on future copies of their DVDs... Mister Jack 566 February 29, 2012 Share February 29, 2012 Don't get too excited. Those discs were probably printed months ago. We won't know for sure if she's been spared until the next printing.

That'll just be our luck, we get a copy that fixes the timing problem, but then Derpy will get censored. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

DVDs are printed in advance, in fact they probably already began pressing the discs before Last Roundup even aired.on TV (I can imagine they got the episode in advance for the DVD). So theres no way the change could have made it onto the disc in time before release. Want to start a webcomic, looking for an artist, details here! Yellow Diamond 7,569 March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 I can confirm that Derpy is left unadulterated on the Friendship Express DVD. I received it yesterday and just took a look at the episode. If you manage to get the DVD, at least as it stands now, you'll have Derpy in all her glory. Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te.

Nah 3,182 March 2, 2012 Share March 2, 2012 The DVD industry is dying because of the internet, it may be a few years, but now you can watch all the episodes on the internet and download them, sometimes its cheaper to download a whole season than to buy it on DVD, so I'm putting my money in downloading. (Wait, have realplayer, aww yeah!)
FIMChangedmylife72 58 March 2, 2012 Share March 2, 2012 I haven't go my hands on the DVD yet. So the 1st press of it has a sync problem? Maybe because it is the first time they released the show on DVD. But when they fix this error they better not change The Last Roundup. I have a feeling they will because Hasbro can be dicks to us fans (with an exception of the new pony toys coming this fall with Vinyl Scratch). I mean they can give orders to Shout Factory since they own the rights to the show and the edited Itunes version is up. I hope this doesn't end out terrible. Hasbro if you are reading this fans are even willing to risk the sync problems for Derpy, SCREW THE SOCCER MOMS AND OTHER PEOPLE!!!! https://blog.so-net.ne.jp/_images/blog/_fc4/mayr/P6300005-d207a.JPG

83awsm 234 March 3, 2012 Share March 3, 2012 do understand that a majority of the purchases are to support the company and push for the creation of a box set, but they really should've reviewed it before mass production. For now I think I'm going to stick with the 1080P Hub DVR rips, with almost no issues and high quality I could just burn them to a bluray disk at anytime Awesomeness = at least 20% Cooler. I couldn't understand why you said you'd burn them to a blurry disk! I hate to sound like a pirate, but since I downloaded the extended opening song, I kinda have no need to actually buy a disk. I may when they get the replacements out to the stores, but I have no rush since I have the complete series (up to season 2 episode 18) already on my hard drive, and season one burned to DVD. I was set to buy the disk but heard about the sound issue first. Oh well. Yeah, I think I will get it when it's all fixed, but I'm getting madder and madder over it not being the start of a box set.
