What would make Rarity a terrible pony?

what would it take.

that means she's not.  I'm asking all the other middle ground rarity fans,

the non haters

non lovers

 

who are okay with rarity.

I'm not asking the haters because you already think she's the worst thing ever,

and i'm not asking her followers because you'd likely like to see me banned for even making the thread.

 

If rarity characters changed a sizable portion of the show into fashion that would be to girly for me.  If art of the dress became the norm.  if some how her passion bleed into the other characters, and they stopped being who they were.

 

Hm maybe that's where the hate comes from,

the fear rarity personality might spread as if it was a virus.  that some how rarity would in fact and make mlp an earlier gen all over again.

It's the same as what would make any other pony terrible. Derail the character with poor writing. Remove her of all depth and write out all her redeeming qualities.

 

And yeah, having her personality bleed into the rest of the show would be bad, but not because of anything wrong with being into fashion, but because the show would lose the mix of personalities that help make it work. Pinkie is great by herself of course, but she's even better when she has a straight man to bounce off of.

I like rarity, she's a great character. The only way I would hate rarity is if she lost her generosity, had an ego inflation, and was about as likeable as an angler fish in an S.S. uniform. If you threw that into her personality, then that is what will throw me. Until the writers have an anuerism and do this, I will continue to like rarity.

I don't think it is so much the fear that Rarities personality would bleed into everything that drives people to dislike her it is that it is difficult for a lot of people to see Rarities positive traits because her negatives are often played up for laughs in many of her supporting roles which rubs many of them the wrong way. Of course any of the characters having so profound an influence that they infect everything would be bad, but even back when I didn't like Rarity I didn't see any danger of this. Rarity is Rarity, Applejack is Applejack, Fluttershy is Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie is Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash is Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle is Twilight Sparkle. They do have some things in common with each other in addition to differences some of these things may be a bit unexpected making for some very interesting character development. Both Rarity and Applejack seem like opposites but both care greatly for their sisters even if Rarity can sometimes have trouble expressing that.

Using her redeeming qualities and negative traits just for a quick laugh, which it would do more harm than good. It is better to keep her the way she is, by balancing out her negative and positive traits.

Exactly and I sometimes get the same impression with Applejack though not nearly to the extent as with Rarity, they did such a phenomenal job with Applejack in season 3 which as a longtime AJ fan is something that I really like to see. They said that Rarity will get some episodes in season 4 lets hope they remember what they did with Applejack and apply some of that to Rarity I am not saying the episodes are going to feel the same but though Spike at Your Service had its flaws it did a great job for making a case for Applejack being a great character and Apple Family Reunion is my favorite episode of the entire series.

Her episodes aren't the problem. It's how often they subvert her outside of her episodes.

Admittedly I don't think it's a big deal, but people do have issues with the character so maybe it is.

Well she isn't my favorite yet at the same time I think she is still a great character for obvious reasons. 

 

 

However what could ruin her if she choose to be overly selfish and let her desires overtake her but she has proven always to be loyal to her friends which is a great characteristic of her.

well they really wouldn't do that to make a main character overly selfish.

certainly not on mlp.

 

I mean sure maybe a writer or two, but it's not as if you'd have that become the norm.

Rarity would only become a bad character really if only her redeeming traits, really like most characters, not necessarily Diamond Tiara or Blueblood.

The only thing I could really think of to actually make Rarity a really bad character is to act like a Mary Sue and this goes to all ponies and other characters in shows, stories etc.

I'd say if the writer's made her lose those qualities about her that we've grown to love her for; her great sense of generosity, her consideration and care for others, her sophisticated and high society-like strata and her great strive for perfection and good virtuous etiquette.

 

Basically take out what made Rarity, Rarity in the first place. 

 

^The same goes for the rest of the mane 6 characters really. Ultimately, take away their personality, their identity, and well... all you have left of them is their cute adorable appearance, but without anything genuine underneath to "give them life."
