No Respect for Privacy in Equestria?

Maybe I'm just being a grouch but one of the annoying unintended consequences I've been seeing is the writers promoting questionable themes, including that its perfectly okay to invade someone's privacy and personal space as long as everything turns out "fine" in the end.

I can't recall how many times I've seen Pinkie or Rainbow trespass their friends', or someone else's property and damage it without bothering to knock on the door or even say a simple sorry, even outside of true emergencies. Pinkie is also notoriously for stalking people and bugging them even when they explicitly tell her to go away. I'm not saying she isn't a nice person and all, but stalking someone no matter who you are can be downright creepy, annoying and intrusive. Some people would probably call the cops on her by now.Cranky was right to be upset in A Friend in Deed. I don't mind that Pinkie tried to help him find his friend, Matilda, but well more than once she invaded his privacy, broke into his house and destroyed his property. I'd be pretty cranky too if someone was being that irritating.

Also the more recent episode Daring Don't highlights this with Rainbow. Maybe because some folks don't understand it or aren't American, since we value our privacy and individual rights strongly over here, but anyone, celebrity or not would probably not appreciate someone following them to their private property, looking through their personal belongings and then proceeding to stalk and follow them when they explicitly tell you not to and why.

On the contrary, I can think off the dome plenty of times where they do regard other ponies' privacy.

  • Pinkie Pie was insistent on keeping a secret safe in Green Isn't Your Colour.
  • Twilight and Fluttershy knock on the cottage door in Magical Mystery Cure.
  • Pinkie Pie knocks on Twilight's door both times in Party of One.
  • Sapphire Shores knocks on Rarity's door in A Dog and Pony Show.
  • ...

...I could just list every door knock, really. And two episodes by themselves isn't a grounds for this notion either. Rainbow Dash was in full fangirl mode and wasn't thinking straight (it happens all the time to people in the presence of idols, like the documentary about One Direction's fabase) and Pinkie Pie was preoccupied with making sure that Cranky didn't have the wrong impression of her (which ended up becoming the moral of the episode, so there you go).

Perhaps you should realize that this is a kid show and kids wouldn't really get the whole privacy system as much as we would. You should also know that Pinkie is also notorious for knowing everypony and making them all smile. I can't really backup RD, but she's 20% cooler than everyone else (lol jk)....

Also the concept of the an "open door" can be heavily abused by friends.  Living on a ground story apartment where I would keep the back porch door unlocked usually invited my friends to just walk on in.  I imagine Fluttershy has the same problem more often than the rest of the mane six.  It also appears that many ponies don't have a problem with making their homes a place open to the public as Twilight lives in Ponyville's library and Rarity lives at Carousel Boutique.

Still, you can make Fluttershy bashful by catching her in bed, so there must be a sense of privacy to be violated.  Could be the concept has become antiquated over time, which would explain why Rarity didn't want Spike to enter while they were dressing and preparing for the Gala, while the others seemed fairly relaxed about it.  A way proper ponies did things before that has become almost laughable by current day standards.

Yeah ponies usually knock showing privacy is valued but there are just so many examples of people walking in when they aren't welcome.

I am surprised it is waved off easily but then again Ponyville seems to have no authorities working there to charge them with tresspassing. Like none at all, in a town of like 1000+ ponies. O_O

Not like Ponyville is a bastion of safety either.

what about fapping? :P. theyd hide that

the everfree isn't actually dangerous, they just tell the fillies and colts that so they don't stumble upon ponies in action.
