I just want some opinions here, I've been listening to roomers lately about another movie to the avatar series (with the na'vi, not the air bender series) It was a amazing movie, simply beautiful, but will the sequels destroy the series or make it better. I don't know, what do you guys think?

I don't think any sequels are needed, unless the first movie has enough for there to be a sequel. If not, no sequel needed only if James Cameron wants more money.

Well I will be honest. I did feel the urge to see more of Pandora and all including the other clans. It was a great movie. Hate to see it end there, but that's my opinion.

I'll agree with it. It was a great movie, so true.

Please elaborate. While the special effects were good, the story was cliched as hell, the Na'vi are pathetic excuses for aliens, along with a bit of the mighty whitey.

My guess is you guys liked it more for the visuals, that's pretty much one of the only things there is to like.

I don't think the sequels could do a worse job story-wise, and I really doubt the SFX will get worse.

I only liked the visuals. As for the story, I wasn't really interested in it.

Well I enjoyed The visuals and the story, to me I got attached to the characters. The science behind it was also very fascinating, I would very much like to know more.

And why are the na'vi a pathetic excuse for aliens, I mean think about it, we have no real understanding on what extraterrestrial life would be anyways. for all we could know a alien would look like a sandwich, we don't have any clue on aliens so its hard to tell whats pathetic and whats not :/

The problem is they're too humanoid. They're just meant to look attractive to the audience. They're not alien enough, they're basically blue cat people, they're completely unoriginal and boring as hell.

Why would an alien world evolve creatures that look almost exactly the same as humans?

you never know, maybe humanoid creatures are the most are the superior race. you can't really say what is alien and what is not when we have no proof on what they look like, or what they can be capable of.

sorry if I sound like a geek or i'm obsessed with aliens, i just like anything that has to do with space haha :)

That's not the problem. The problem is that humanoid aliens have been done thousands of times over. The Na'vi are no different. It's not about how likely it is, it's about the amount of effort that was put into creating them.

Yes I understand your point. but I must disagree. even though its been humanoid aliens, they did use some original ideas, like how had the ability to access data, connect with other life. And then we have there anatomy, and what their body is adapted to and what pro's and cons they have.

What anatomy? What pros and cons? They look and act almost exactly like humans.

I've seen other humanoid aliens done in a more interesting and original form than the Na'vi.

The problem is the humanoid design. There are limitless possibilities as to what a sapient species might look like. But they keep using the old and tired humanoid design.

They have enhanced protein in their bones, they can connect with other creatures in the planet etc. But more could be revealed in other sequels.

That's it? What about their cons?

My problem with the Na'vi is that they are waaay to familiar and human. Why not make an aquatic intelligent alien, like a dolphin? There are limitless possibilities yet they choose to restrain themselves to the "tried and true" humnoid design.

We use humanoid aliens because they are easier to relate to. A fourteen legged multi-segmented fleebergloggin that only speaks in telepathic haiku is not something most people can understand or relate to in any real way. As a sci-fi writer, this is one of my biggest problems with alien species, the more alien they are, the harder time my readers seem to have really connecting with them, even if they are suffering a very human plight like famine or war

I think it could be interesting if well

they had a kid,  like Jake's kid and such

and you get to watch him grow up (or daughter) and stuff

and seeing more of the planet would be nice and

other cultures they might have!

True, very true. Rather unfortunate as well :/

Just about every alien civilization on Star Trek except for the tribbles were humanoid. The problem really wasnt in them being humanoid, it was that he storyline was just an update of countless cowboys vs aliens but in space.

As Flying Space Badger said, it's hard to relate to other characters. Also, most of the appeal of the film comes from the visuals, so the aliens have to look visually appealing.

Avatar, the blue cat movie, was intended to be a trilogy.

But we really don't need three massive piles of pretty sh#t, and that's the sum of Avatar. It's pretty but it's also terrible.

That's a RL explanation, but not an in-universe one, which is ultimately what the audience cares about. There's this thing called suspension of disbelief...

But more sequels? Ugh, seems we have another franchise that will be milked to the ground... >_>

Meh, I doubt the story could get any worse, same for the visuals.

I really don't expect much from the film but I'll probably go see it as a popcorn movie anyway. As long as it has amazing CGI that's good enough for me to fork out $18 for a ticket. Also I think Cameron expressed interest in a prequel at one point.

I really don't care to be honest. I didn't like Avatar all that much because it kind of bored me. So a sequel doesn't seem all that exciting. A prequel wouldn't be much better either for me. I'd much rather see the new Godzilla movie rather than a prequel/sequel/whatever filled with blue people.
