*spoiler*Will Flutterbat be a permanent thing?

It could either be just something to end the episode with your jaw open similar to how old shows used to end spooky episodes.

This hit the nail on the head. I doubt it will come back up in the future. There are plenty of episodes that things happen and then are never mentioned again (not always at the ending, mind you). But if they do, they better make it sweet.

No im pretty sure its not like that.

I kind of just thought it was one of those

The End? Moments where you know it may return but you aren't 100% sure about it.

Besides cliffhangers seem to be the recurring theme in this season so it may just hang in the air and never touched again or out could be brought back way later down the road.

I believe it has something to do with the season finale. After all I remember one of the writer's saying the finale was gonna 'suck' because of something... yeah... the Flutterbat shall rise again!

While I'd freking love having Flutterbat as a Hulk-mode for Fluttershy, it would probably work better just to keep the (small) fangs and have her suck an apple every no and then. Cute as all hell.

-THE FREAKING BOX: We are a third of the way in, and no progress has been made on this point

Well, maybe the box arc is planned over several seasons (seeing as S5 seems pretty much confirmed). Anyway, I personally trust the writers to pull it off.

As for the castle/Shadow Pony; we're still only a third into the season. Having an epic story is one thing, but you need some quite in between or its gonna get boring really quick.

Not really. If you've watched very story-centric shows, you know what I mean. I like to use Avatar: The Last Airbender as an example. That show is masterpiece of story writing. Nothing really seems out of place. Even very slice-of-lifey episodes such as the Cave of Two Lovers and The Runaway have some reference to some aspect of the overall plot. It is never completely dropped, and loose ends are usually touched upon within the next couple of episodes, even if they aren't resolved. If there is too much time passing with no progress, the tension can be too much, and turn from being suspenseful to being frustrating.

And that's where I'm starting to lean. I'm going crazy waiting to see where these plot threads go, if anywhere. I am also dying to see if they can do it in a way that isn't rushed. You know everypony will flip a cow if they see all 6 keys getting found in the finale, with every other suspenseful plot point being proven to be nothing more than hardcore trolls. We don't want that, and so far nothing suggests that it will be any other way but that way.

Another problem here is that the writers are attempting overall plot with a chronicle-based narrative style. Overarching plot can be tricky if a series is largely episodic, and not chronologically arranged. There is little to no correlation between consecutive episodes, which means direct connections are difficult to make without seeming jumpy. Due to the lack of transitions between episodes, it is difficult to bring up past plot points in a way that does not seem contrived. So there is the other issue with this.

I might be a little harsh, as this is an experiment on the part of the writers, who don't really have experience with this narrative style. But even knowing that, I can't change the way I feel about it. All I can do is hope that they don't make too dire a mistake with all of this. Hopefully they hone their skills before too long.

I have a feeling it'll at least be relevant but not necessarily the focus of any other episode. I agree with the others who are saying it's a Chekov's Gun, but maybe it could work in a slightly different way than expected. As long as the writers can pull it off, I think it has potential.

Plus, I just wanna see Flutterbat's creepily cute design again.

Wow, such negativity against this.

I personally love this, and hope she keeps them. This can add to her character.

I mean Twilight got wings, why can't Fluttershy have fangs?

I can't understand why us as humans fear change so much.

People just get so upset when you change something they are used to.

The show and characters can't stay the same forever or the show will get boring.

I think that Flutterbat will be permanent. At the end of the episode, the cameras close in on Fluttershy's face, then to her mouth, where we can see a tiny fang in Fluttershy's mouth. It could be an animation error but I think it's safe to say Flutterbat is permanent.

Although i personally would love if she returned, but she probably won't, there were alot of cliff hangers this season but there was never a part 2, The pony of Shadows, The keys, Flutterbat, I think Hasbro is just trolling us. :P

well flutter shy has kinda sucked lately.

If this is her new direction might as well, what ever they've been trying with her in season 4 has been well mostly miss?

and this is from a flutter shy fan.

I prefer an attempt at change even if it fails.

I think their building up,

it's all part of a season long story arc with discord trolling the main cast.

i think he's behind the comic as well

There's been a lot of weird endings this season, I think it's building to something in the finale or something!  :)

ZOMG a constructive post out of GE!  This calls for a party someone call pinkie.

Probably she won't be Flutterbat again until the Season finale.

My theory at the moment is that the dark shadow of the castle will come back in the finally when they've restored the castle and attack them and call on its henchmen, which are bat ponies. Flutterbat will awaken and serve her/him.

Twilight will fight back using whatever's in the box with the "keys" (lessons) that have accumulated during the season.

This is just wild speculation.

Have you guys ever watched horror movies? It is just a little nod towards the "The end... OR IS IT!?" kind of endings that frequently happen in them. The fang won't show up again because it's clearly just a little gag.

Brushing your hair is for people who care and someone who cares is not I, I'll jump off a bridge and then fill up your fridge,
and best pony is Fluttershy.

Her face is still blushing and she is still eating the pasta.

Just let people believe what they want to believe.

I personally hope they do, but I do have a feeling that they won't. If anything, we may see it here an there, but I don't see it being any kind of plot point.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

I don't think thats a good comparison: Avatar was conceived, written and (excellently) executed as one big story, whereas MLP  is meant as a slice-of-life series with the occasional adventure sprinkled in. Also keep in mind that MLP would have probably been axed if it failed to reek in money, hence it's pretty tricky to plan overarching stories.

That and editorial mandates (Cadence, Twilicorn) though luckily  not to the extend of other series (eg Transformers Prime got screwed over hard).

My point is that MLP is not really in a position to have epic, season-spanning arcs. And seeing as the slice-of-life elements are what the show des best, I'm ok with just  the occasional epicness sprinkled in.
