Were the writers forcing Rarity's generosity in Rarity Takes Manehattan?

alright fine all jokes asside,

(kill joy)

it's anoying when a portion of rarity fans over react, the so called moderate faction shuts up,

until an equal level of over reation is fired back.

Ever see that episode of south park about having your cake and eating it (the ben frankling thing.  Yeah.

I'm not down with that.

This is getting off-topic. Also, we get that way because of lack of insight to our favorite character leading to unnecessary hatred.

At least, that's the way it is for me.

Also, we're not as bad as you're making us out to be.

I've peaked around you don't find any critic of her to be valid ^^.

and your default to criticisim is to call it hate.

hell my second thread in response to raritty takes mainhatten was "is rarity is character."

so i didn't step on anyones feet with out getting a good response.

No one said she was out of character here.  I was open to the idea

"maybe it's a bit exagerated."

but not a single poster took that stance.

Nor have i seen a fan reviewer take that stance.

I dotted my i  crossed my t's.

she dumped on all of her friends in brutal abusive fashion,

and It's one thing when tommy oliver (rarity's biggest fan) "says understandable so,"

you don't even see it is a problem in the first place.

If this was a mma discussion the term would be called nutt huggery.

My guy can do no wrong.

I think rarity could have easily expressed how important this was to her with out doing what she did.

she let a stranger affect her in a way that had her lash out at her friends.

friends that have been there side by side to face down death with her.

That's low even to a guy like me

I don't think you read my whole post.  Most of this seems to be you venting.  While many of things you talk about are general issues we have, you still veered off topic.  Since you seem to have trouble grasping what's going on, I'll clear things up.

  1. Rarity has always been generous and it was not forced in this episode.  Get over it.
  2. People have long since gotten sick and tired of incorrect negativity against Rarity.

This topic can be closed now, because everything you asked was answered, even if you don't like the answers or the people giving them.

Yeah, Rarity was never generous at all in the past, like whatsoever. The only generous moments she's ever had since the very first episode have felt forced and out of character to how she usually acts. Here was the absolute most forced, though, she just sung a song bragging about how generous she is even though she really isn't whatsoever. Lazy characterization but, I guess it's slightly better than forgetting about her so called element completely.

This was pretty much the point I was trying to make in this topic. The song was just like "GENEROSITY GENEROSITY" over and over, like it was just shoving the fact that Rarity is generous down our throats, while simultaneously exaggerating her generosity a bit.

Well, yeah I can see that.  they couldn't hammer it in more if they tried -_- well they cant top RD directed line toward AJ geez thats not fan service at all *sarcasm*

Every time Rarity is subtly generous, very few people notice, and a lot will say she is never generous. Now that her generosity is obvious, it was forced? This is why Rarity has the least number of fans.

One could say the same thing about Pinkie's 'Smile' song forcing her laughter trait. In my opinion, no, it wasn't really 'forced' as it did what it set out to do, set out an overall tone for the episode that could play into the moral. That worked fine to me.

well i like the term show not tell,

now again to the rarity fans, this is more of a complaint about the writing staff that rarity, and yeah rarity is showing and tellling,

and i understand for the opening song, but i mean,

she set herself up to be disappionted thinking her generosity was quid pro quo.

It's IN her song about the city she expects karma to pay her back.

I'm like that to (LOL) so i'm not hating on that.

But i'm an awful person.

No, her song describes that people in Manehattan repay generosity. Big difference between that and an expectation.

Now more generally:

But yea, it's just bullshit all around and here's why.

Generous in small and subtle ways? Nobody notices.

Song about it? Too blatant.

Something that was not said about Smile reinforcing Pinkie's most obvious personality trait.

I mean, sure, Generosity wasn't as good as Smile but quit it with this sanctimonious "I'm a serious critic now" nonsense.

You people really aren't worth being treated any other way than something shoved down your throats often times. This is one of them imo

I think she was really more generous than you think, but it was kind of less pronounced. It was her element's moment to shine, so of course they had to outline it. But it wasn't a far stretch on her character, i can totally see her being all that generous to strangers. She's nice like that.

I wouldnt call it as forcing since  Rarity is absolutely generous in every episode and I think that her giving nature just got more focus on that episode =)<3

My thoughts. She's generous in her own way. And I never appreciated how the second is executed in a moment of vanity or something, people thinks she isn't worthy of her "Generosity" title. The Mane 6 should not be categorized base solely on the element they represent.

The episode itself didn't force it....the song did imo. It was a good song, but I saw it as the writers responding to the negativity towards where Rarity stood as the element of generosity. The episode itself was more of Rarity having her "Rainbow light moment". She needed to face a struggle with her element and overcome it. As Pinkie did in Pinkie Pride...RainbowDash did in Rainbowfalls....Applejack did in Leap of Faith....and as Fluttershy did in It Aint Easy Being Breezy (which was a masterpiece teaching about the grey areas of kindness). "Made in Manehatten" was basically the same thing. By saying the episode ITSELF was forcing generosity on Rariy, you're saying the same for the others: They were forcing honesty on Applejack...forcing kindness of Fluttershy and so on and so forth. That was basically the theme of Season 4 anyway.
