Hey everypony!

So after some thinking about it, I tried out some digital art with cs6 (if you already know me, you know I hate attempting digital paintings because I just get so frustrated and give up). I've drawn Octavia and Vinylscratch (no particular reason) and I managed to persevere and complete the two.

Any tips, hints, pointers etc would be wonderful and muchly appreciated (if you wouldn't mind of course)

Thank-you's :3

Hello!

They're quite cute! ^_^

My tips would try to get the smooth anatomy down. Try to make the lines smoother. The proportions are a little off, but, as I said, both of them are cute :)

Very nice my dear! Are you sure this is your first time? You did very well indeed!

My only critique is that the heads and one of Octavia's back legs look a little wonky.

Keep up your digital drawings, you're already doing splendid and you'll be even better in the future <3

I like how you shaped Octavia's rear left leg ;-) It appears a bit too long, but the shape is interesting. Very hmm "sexy"... (I can't believe I say this about a cartoon horse, but... ;-J ). Her face is a little too squished vertically, probably a matter of proportion between her muzzle and the rest of her head, but it's still better than other first-timers I've seen over here.

Vinyl Scratch is pretty much OK, I guess.

Have you been using some reference images? Or this is solely your work?

Thank you all so much :3

I'll take it all into account next time of course :)

noses (NOSES they matter)

@,

I seem to have an issue with noses, even in my non-digital artwork

I definitely don't feel ready to try out my own art for now, so the answer to your question is, yes, I used a few references

Yes, it is, ehe, thank you again :3

As I told through PM I really like them :3 You did amazing job, there are some things about their heads that would require slight corrections but overall- awesome job :3

@, No problem, it's not a life & death matter ;)

As to the proportions of the noses: G4 ponies have very small muzzles in proportion to their entire heads. And very big eyes. The head is pretty much a circle, but a bit flattened on top and back, making it a bit square-shaped (but just a tad). And if you draw a horizontal and vertical line crossed on the center of the head, then the muzzle will start pretty much where the vertical line cuts the circle at the bottom, and end when the horizontal line cuts the circle. You can apply this in 3D, too, with a bit of experience and imagination, by making these lines somewhat more curved according to the direction the pony looks at. The eyes take nearly one of the quadrants of the circle, but they're a bit lowered below the horizontal line.
