gaming Do you think Pokémon should end already?

I've never known a day when Pokemon wasn't alive and well. And to be honest, I'd never care to see a day when it isn't. It's something that I sincerely want to pass on to my kids one day. I hope it'll be around that long...

I've heard arguments that Pokemon's creators are starting to run out of ideas and aren't being creative. I'll admit, there are some odd designs every now and then, but I find them all to be just as (if not more) interesting. Both Vanilluxe and Garbodor were staples of my original White team.

Furthermore, this isn't a new thing. Remember, some of the first Pokemon were literally Pokeballs and blobs of goop. Not the most imaginative things out there.

Not to mention, I've been seeing an increase in story impact in the main series, for me at least. I mean, Team Rocket didn't really excite me in any way, Aqua/Magma kinda did it, Galactic was getting there, Plasma gave me rather intense feels, and Flare made me want to stop them at all costs. Not to mention, X/Y's final cutscene literally made me break down and start bawling. Ain't no Giovanni gonna do that.

I believe that Pokemon's stronger now than it ever has been. Why should they stop now?

...TV show, though, completely different story.  >_>

Also, @@Celtore, you are my hero now. Colo and XD don't get nearly enough respect.

Yes, because the ice cream pokemon and garbage pokemon are obviously so much less original than muk, voltorb or goldeen... every generation has had its stinkers.

But anyway... No, I don't think it should end. It's a fantastic franchaise that I don't think has reached its full potential. I would like the story to be overhauled though to be more like the gamecube games. The badge collecting has been pointless since the third generation because of the changes in the storyline.

The plot usually rears its climactic head after the 7th gym. You defeat the bad guy, catch the legendary, the plot dies down and you just kind of plunk your way through the 8th gym and the elite four. Well, whoop-de-doo...

What coloseum and XD did differently was have taking down the organization the main plot point, which makes sense with this new story progression. The elite four are supposed to be the strongest trainers in the region, so why is defeating them in the falling action part of the plot diagram?

You bring up an excellent point about the plot of the games: They really could stand to move away from the whole Pokemon League/Gym Badges crap. Its stupid after the first couple of generations when the only thing they do is find a new way to make every element they've already used a little different in each dungeon. There is WAY more they could do with the story and world but they seem to refuse to do it except in spinoffs like the Mystery Dungeon or Coliseum games.

Absolutely not. The games are good enough to be hashed out every couple of years. It's not suffering from Call of Duty Syndrome (can we still call it that now that we have 3 devs?) like some games. It's hugely popular in Japan and NA, so why cancel it?

The anime needs rebooting, though. Ash got old in 2005. Bring in Red or someone like that.

I do not think they should STOP. but they shouldn't make new Pokemon. Don't get me wrong, I do like the newer Generations, but its getting MOE DIFFICULT to remember all the new ones. I stopped remembering Pokemon after Gen 4.

So on, I just gave up trying to remember >.< I mean, they can always make newer games without making a new Generation. They can make newer stories and instead of starting out with the same old starters, you can start out with a certain starter, like Pikachu in Pokemon Yellow.

Pokemon DOES NOT need to quit, but they can stop making new Gens. TOO MUCH TO REMEMBER!!!

I mean, Pokémon has been around for like 14 years.

brand viability is a good thing =P

There has already been 6 generations and 600+ Pokémon

thousands of species are discovered in our world every year. I think we can manage with 800 or so pokemon so far :3

Do you think Pokémon has been going on long enough and should end or do you think Pokémon should keep going and make more games?

I'm always excited to see a new pokemon game and I don't think it should be ended. disney has been around for almost a century and the movies have been rather formulaic in recent history but as far as I can tell, people aren't clamoring to end disney.

I hope to see the all the generations of pokemon shared with the next generation of people :3

Of course not... There are so many creatures/monsters left unPokémonfied, and so many type combinations left unused so far, plus the gameplay systems are great and are always built/improved upon every generation. I think Pokémon has a hell of a lot left yet to offer. ;)

I have been with Pokemon since the beginning, I was eleven years old at the time, so yes I am old. I mastered generation one and two, and continue to play with those Pokemon cards, now with six generations of Pokemon, with new moves and attacks it can be snarling mess, especially for someone new to Pokemon, I just think they should stop adding more generations of Pokemon. That being said, I do not want a complete stop of Pokemon, it's still fun and to meet players as old as me is quite a reward, however I do believe the anime has run its natural course, I last saw the Battle Frontier before I enlisted, after that I lost interest, besides the show has practically become a cliché of itself, and there must be a space/time continuum, because Ash has remained ten, or there about, plus the show has a formula that has not changed since the Johto League, so now it's redundant and insipid, it would not mind seeing the "To be continued" credits replaced with "The end", Ash is finally a Pokemon master, and the rest of the story concluded.

You gotta look at Pokemon as having two different, prominent modes of play: The single player story, and the multiplayer competition. When most people say that they find Pokemon as getting stale, it seems more often than not they are referring to the single player story. And for a decent amount of the points... yeah I can definitely see that.

However, I think the multiplayer competitive side of the game has become more or less the big focus and draw of the series for awhile now. And each generation adds and changes things to degrees unimaginable. The meta-game for Pokemon is surprisingly fragile, and any little change can snowball into a bunch of changes for a lot of different things. And so every generation, the competitive nature of the game gets a big overhaul, and becomes fresh each time.

They should stop bringing new pokemons and actually work on the games. Seriously, more spinoffs would be epic.

I don't care about graphics or new pokemons, I want a game with an awesome gameplay and great story. Everything so far in the main series have beem... well, too linear with repetitive storylines.

More sidequests, with huge area, long caves, dungeons, plains, etc.. where rare pokemons and items are hidden. They actually have the technology to do that. Or what about a Mystery Dungeon with a non-linear story? I mean... they put their efforts at the wrong place, while they have the potential to do something amazing. The games they now do are boring, repetitive, we can get something new. And they ruined the Mystery Dungeon series with Gates to Infinity. :(

So if there is no changes, they should stop. I still play Blue Rescue Team and Leafgreen, but not the new games.

Honestly no, strange as it seems despite how many games there have been and how old it is, and how many pokemon there are, i still enjoy the games a ton, the new ones and old. Infact X and Y was probably one of my favorites.

So no, i don't think so personally, maybe i'm crazy, but i honestly would probably keep buying pokemon games forever almost, assuming they don't lose their charm to me.

I'm a big pokemon nerd ik, but idc :D.

Pokemon XD ranks up with my favorite pokemon games, i'd love something like that again.

Coloseum was good, but not nearly as good as XD in my opinion, XD just fixed so many things Coloseum had as flaws.

There still great games, and i'd be totally cool with some more of them. Or something along the similar lines.

Frankly i won't even mind if it still revolves around shadow pokemon, Shadow pokemon are epic.

I've never known a day when Pokemon wasn't alive and well. And to be honest, I'd never care to see a day when it isn't. It's something that I sincerely want to pass on to my kids one day. I hope it'll be around that long...

Thank you! I honestly don't even hate Vanillux, infact its a pretty "Cool" dude(Haha funny, laugh.. please?) I'm not a huge fan of Garbador, but its not the worst thing ever like some make it to be.

I don't mean to sound mean or offend anyone, and nothings wrong with not liking the newer games or stuff, but i kinda get ticked off when people act like older pokemon don't have these "Uncreative" designs.

That said i still like many of the pokemon who could be considered "Uncreative" depending on who you ask, i just don't like the reasoning for disliking the newer pokemon.

So thank you ;p.

And i also agree the story has improved overall as the games have gone on, atleast in the main series, the spin-offs are all over, so its hard to scale them. But the main series has got better overall, Even if i do kinda like Black and white's story the best out of the main series over X and Y. But X and Y still had some good story moments to it, and overall i still really liked the game.

So yeah, i don't find that pokemon is really declining either.

The TV show is definitely just to lengthy.. Like i tried to watch it all(I was bored and crazy ok.) and i got to like... episode 140 or something? And i just was like... This is mindlessly boring... I give up.. It just gets old after like 100 episodes ya know? Its not even necessarily that its bad, its just so freaking long.. Theres like 800 episodes now..

But anyways, different discussion ;p.

(Refer to previous post, I basically repeated myself slightly clearer.)

On a side note, having the shadow pokemon story line return would be kind of cool. We have around twice the number of pokemon that there were in generation 3. Perhaps the next "XD001" in that hypothetical story could be a shadow regigigas with pressure as its ability.

I loved X/Y. There's no reason for them to end, they're more popular than ever, AND good. Normally I'd say being popular means it will continue even if it shouldn't, but this is an issue where long running does not mean bad.

I didn't necessarily mean bring back shadow pokemon, I meant they should change the focus to the type of storyline the gamecube games had. After you defeat the gang in the game and save the world, defeating the elite four is almost an afterthought.

What I was thinking instead was to have the main focus of the game be facing off against the criminal organization instead of becoming the pokemon league champion. The badge idea made sense in the first two games because the plot was simple and lugia / ho-oh had no part of the storyline. The box legendary is now the primary focus of everything that's going on and the elite four is a post-plot formality.

Once that legendary is caught and the criminal organization is defeated, who really cares about the elite four? You just saved the world! (and caught an awesome pokemon to boot!) There is nothing the elite four could pull that could result in a second plot climax. Having a post-game badge challenge like the battle frontier would make sense though.

I know, but i was just saying i wouldn't mind it coming back either ;p.

But i get what your saying, the badge thing all the time can be a bit odd at times. I don't mind it a ton, but at the same time a bit of a mixup in that whole formula might be cool.

Regardless another Spin-off somewhat like XD and Colosseum needs to be made, even if it doesn't involve shadow pokemon.

Yes. Clearly NOW is the time they stopped trying.

Ekans and Arbok were actually clever.

But I remember seeing this one pokemon,it was a cow looking thing with massive udders and it's name was like "Moomilk" or something. It's just getting rediculous now.

You mean Milktank.

Also Ekans and Arbok are about as clever as Rotom is.

It's almost clear to me you haven't done your research, or at the very least are trolling.

I'm referring to when I was a kid, Hence why I said "Were" clever. Like a "I See what you did there" thing.

I quickly grew out of Pokemon though after Grade 5-6. I started getting in to Yu-Gi-Oh Instead. I was into pokemon for the cards and TV Show for the most part. Aside from Pokemon Stadium 2 on my N64,

If you no longer like to watch Pokemon, you are in no means obligated to watch it. I'm sure we all grew up with a certain generation (the first one lol), and we might no longer appreciate the show/franchise as much as we used to, while others continue to enjoy it or new fans are born.

If My Little Pony took a similar path, would you wish for it to just stop even though the franchise is no longer what it used to be? Maybe, but why upset others by wishing the show to end when you can stop watching it (unless you feel like the new hypothetical stuff gives MLP a bad name)? There's always the chance in the future that things could improve and Pokemon will swing back up (if you think it's in the ditch right now..I mean, why wouldn't you think that? There's apparently a garbage bag pokemon!...but no cockroach pokemon, Y U NO MAKE COCKROACH POKEMON??!).
