problem with rainbow dash: How did she come to Ponyville?

Okay, i never noticed this till pink's pride and I'll bet you didn't either.

Rainbow dash moved to pony ville on her birthday.  K.  still with me?

 

Now I understand twilight got ordered to move there.  sure makes sense.
Flutter shy discovered she preferred life on the ground,  Perfect.

Apple jack has a farm near by.  Okay.

Rarity folks presumably lived there?  See where i'm going yet?

Pinkie being a party pony in Pony ville works as well as any other town, so it's fine.

Why... did rainbow dash ever come to ponyville in the first place?

I mean there's a couple of contrived ideas I have?

She fallowed flutters to make sure she was all right?  But i mean rainbow dash is all about flight,

You'd think rainbow dash would dislike ponyville at least at first for all the reasons flutters loved it?

 

It's the only place she could get a job?

Um, the real word can be this pain in the butt of having to move and alot people have assumed rainbows job as weather pony is high paying, so it would be worth the head ache?

 

Celestail being the grand know it all manipulated it to be this?

 

I don't know man.  It's weird that she choose to go there in the first place.

She grew up in cloudsdale,

she's all about flight,

or is it something that's gonna make for a future episode?

She does like her peace and quiet so maybe she set up just outside of Ponyville and flies in on days she has to work. By the way just check out that house. Keeping the sky clear my pay pretty damn well.

I'm sure Ponyville isn't exclusively the town itself, Ponyville jurisdiction would most likely expand into the surrounding hills, mountains etc for a certain distance around the town itself. Like AJ for instance, the Apple farm isn't exactly in the Ponyville but I'm sure everyone would agree that she still lives in Ponyville. It might be the same with Dash.

I'm not saying i don't want her there.

She's my second favorite  (arguable twilight's been slacking off lately rainbow might make first)

Only if dash was a wonder bolt they could just ordered dashie to fly for them back in rainbow falls.

The more the show  covers on rainbow dash the more confused i get.

I mean seriously rainbow could have a house on the other side of the planet, all things considered it wouldn't keep her from ponyville, you know,

I don't see this as a big issue. When the canon contradicts itself just go with the canon you like. My guess is she stays in both Ponyville and Cloudsdale depending upon the situation. Heck any cloud tree seems to do for her.

Let's just go with the canon, because whether we know or not the canon answer can shed some light on this question. Technically, she goes to Ponyville and Cloudsdale from time to time.

Well here's my theory/head canon: It appears RD's house is on the outskirts of Ponyville, but judging by its architecture it's safe to say it resembles Cloudsdale. RD is loyal and was shown to be very close with Fluttershy since they were little. Piecing the two statements together with her constant tug-of-war conflicts with Ponyville and Cloudsdale makes me think she moved there to stay close to Fluttershy, but she didn't want to leave Cloudsdale completely behind either, so she probably lives near the border of the two. But hey it's just a theory.

So perhaps they did the same thing: sent Rainbow Dash to Ponyville to assemble and train the new weather supervision team, and then RD met a bunch of friends, including her old flying school buddy Fluttershy, and decided to stay permanently.

Maybe its just me, but I think the answer's a lot simpler than some of you are making it out to be. Here's what I think:

 

After Fluttershy fell out of the sky, she soon settled into that cottage in or nearby Ponyville. Some time soon after Rainbow did her Sonic Rainboom and won the race she went to go find Fluttershy. After all Fluttershy was her friend and someone she cared for. If Rainbow is the element of loyalty, why wouldn't she go find out what happened to her friend and tell her of the Sonic Rainboom that she made?

 

Eventually Rainbow would have found out that Fluttershy settled down in Ponyville, so she would arrange to visit her there more often and perhaps spend less time in Cloudsdale. You could even throw in the fact that although Rainbow may have found Ponyville initially boring, she was lured in by fun, parties and antics of Pinkie, whom she also became a close friend of. Directly or indirectly, Rainbow's choice to move and live near Ponyville would have been at least in part due to Fluttershy, and perhaps even Pinkie.

I think she was probably assigned to work as a weather pony in ponyville. She needs to earn bits somehow, and it makes the most sense. She probably moved there after she made friends there.

Rainbow Dash is the captain of the weather pegasus team in Ponyville. She also happens to be Fluttershy's boss in that aspect. Cloudsdale is also a constant moving city going around all of Equestria.

To be fair, they all show signs of being rich, like rarity's gems, pinkies ability to buy anything she needs, applejack acres of land, twilight being royal, and fluttershy affording the care of all animals, and now rainbows massive party and awesome house.

Has nobody considered the possibility she decided to stay in Ponyville because her FRIENDS are there? Or the possibility that she flies between the two? People move places for lots of different reasons... Maybe she got bored of cloudsdale and wanted to explore... Then found ponyville, made friends and decided to stay... Or maybe she found ponyville weather in a state of confusion and fixed it... Who knows? It never actually states how many years she's been in ponyville... So it's possible it could be her one year anniversary... Which would mean is he officially moved to ponyville after the events of the first episode...

Don't forget about Gilda, and her line, "get kicked out of any flight schools lately?", and the fact that she and Fluttershy didn't seem to be very familiar with eachother.

 

So we know Rainbow met Fluttershy at flight camp, Fluttershy fell, Rainbow did the rainboom, and Fluttershy never heard about it. So it's pretty safe to assume they didn't become best friends on the spot or anything. So here are some possibilities:

1. Fluttershy was never found and presumed dead, Rainbow considered it to be her fault, and the emotional trauma led her to get in lots of trouble and that's how she wound up paired with Gilda.

2. Fluttershy was brought back to Cloudsdale, but either pulled out of flight camp, or that was the last day or something, to keep her from talking to Rainbow again.

3. Fluttershy was found, but chose not to return to Cloudsdale. Rainbow probably heard the news, but just continued her life unaffected.

 

So after discovering her love of fast flying, Rainbow went to Junior Speedsters flight camp, and met Gilda there. Then got in trouble and either quit or got kicked out or something, and likely skipped town to escape her reputation. She probably didn't move to Ponyville for Fluttershy specifically, because they hardly knew eachother. So, she either landed the weather job there, or just settled outside town because it was quiet there, and she could train to be a Wonderbolt without any distractions, and with a town nearby for food and such. Then probably ran into Fluttershy at some point and they became proper friends... which I get the impression was quite a while before Twilight came to town, although I don't think there's anything proving without a doubt that any of the mane 6 knew eachother before Twilight's welcome party (aside from Pinkie, who knows every pony in Ponyville)

 

...dang it, I think I just reduced the bouyancy of the Flutterdash ship. Their history together is one of the things I like, but I really can't imagine them being close friends as fillies without telling their cutie mark stories, since that race would have been the main thing to talk about.

I think it's mainly because of Fluttershy. After they both earned their cutie marks on the same day, Fluttershy clearly knew that she wanted to move to the ground. We've all seen that Rainbow Dash defends Fluttershy from bullies, and she probably knew there were going to be bullies in Ponyville as well.

 

Also, she technically lives in a really cool-looking house near Ponyville, but not directly in the village itself. Perhaps she bought the house to be closer to Fluttershy, or built it there herself. Maybe she was roaming years after Fluttershy moved, found Fluttershy, and agreed to move closer to Ponyville in order to continue their friendship without the long-distance part.

 

That's just a few theories.

Okay here is my theory: Rainbow and Flutter friends from fillyhood always relied on each other. This is shown because everyone in cloudsdale calls Rainbow by Rainbow crash. So Rainbow does the sonic rainboom to protect Flutter from the bullies. When Flutter hits the ground she decides to move to ponyville Rainbow missing her only friend joins the school with Gilda as an attempt to make a new friend or friends however the horrible nickname follows her. On her birthday Rainbow has to celebrate alone as Griffins do not celebrate birthdays. Lonely and bullied she decides she cant take one more person calling her crash and gets in a fight. Being kicked out of school for fighting she decides to take a job as ponyvilles weather maintance pony so she can rejoin her first and so far only friend so she can celebrate her birthday. This is why Rainbow moved to ponyville on her birthday after Fluttershy already moved there and we know this cause otherwise fluttershy would of been included in Rainbows birth/aversary. If you find holes in this let me know.
