Courageous Thunder Dash 7,824 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 @, It's just how some people are. I can tell the difference between a writer who's just starting out, and a writer who was just messing around and took no time to develop. Still, this doesn't give people the right to bash on their fanfics. Oh it is very hard to write a story, especially when you try to write exactly what you're thinking. 1 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeWg-TtBRMfqketa1ELyKGg Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/menelik-david-kenneth-cannady 2nd SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/thunder-dash-alternative/tracks Pony.fm: https://pony.fm/thunder-dash
Zhortac 1,475 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 Personally, I don't care if you're a brony or not. If you try to sound like some smart ass, or some wanna be writing expert, then I won't listen to your comments on my writing. It's even more amusing, when they have no idea what the subject of the story is, and act like it's horrible. 2 Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.
Syeekoh 33 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 I dunno. I've never really had that experience on FimFiction. Sure, I churned out some crappy stories, but most of my fics have a positive like/dislike ratio, and the ones that don't are either shitty or gross. And the criticism has always been constructive whenever I pressed the poster about it. 1 Rainbow Dash has Swag, Vinyl Scratch, however, got SWAGGER! Moonlight 7,288 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 I had an account on there and wrote some stories, I seemed to be one of the lucky ones since every comment was constructive criticism, rather than just "this story sucks, stop writing". Some may be too hard on new writers, and unless that writer is a troll, it's pointless to be harsh. Give the writer constructive criticism that could help them better their story or future stories, being kind yet constructive will encourage them to write more while being harsh and negative may possibly get them to back away from writing, something they could be good at, if they learned a little more. matching setups with my bff pathfinder
~Silver Essence~ 2,625 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 Yes, very. I have seen some serious hate from there, especially centered towards some here that I won't identify. They give harsh criticism, hateful banter, and even as far as giving hate or death mail, really? But yes, it's damn to harsh if you ask me, but I wonder why target on writers who write fan fics for fun?

Once I see those kind of messages, it tells me that, that person is lazy to read it, thus posting a offensive comment, just trying to draw attention. LordDiscord 289 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 Honestly I think its the opposite, don't get me wrong, there are those out there that believe they need to call someone a idiot for making a few mistakes but for the most part I've only really saw criticism more than I have cruel messages. I am a relatively new fanfiction writer and I have only seen positive comments from my stories. Though that might be luck, I can't say.
Yellow Diamond 7,575 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 You dont even know criticism until you've tried to submit a SCP article to the website (its a creepypasta-roleplay website) "WRAWR WRAWR YOU DIDN'T USE PROPER PUNCTUATION WRAWR WRAWR YOU MISSED AN INDENT WRAWR WRAWR YOU ARE MISSING THE PLOT WRAWR WRAWR ##### ISNT IN CHARACTER WRAWR WRAWR I MAKE INSULT ON YOUR BIRTHMOTHER" To be fair, repeatedly making punctuation and grammatical errors can make a writer appear lazy. The same goes for characterization -- an essential element in writing fiction based on pre-established concepts. I've very rarely come across reviewers who rip into other stories; and if they do so, oftentimes there is a reason for a strong response. Flaming a writer doesn't count as constructive criticism, however. Attacking someone personally for their work at the amateur level is childish. 2 Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te. Side Bird 566 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 (edited) I don't think so bit at the same time I do. On fimfic people can bash, but not all the time. Only on actually bad stories or things like that. Some try and help you out, point out what they saw wrong. I've written like five fics on fimfiction, I don't get many comments but I've never really gotten bashed. I browse through a number of stories and I see good comments and lots of likes, unless the story is actually bad or that person who is bashing is just being a jerk. Though I have seen some random bashing in good stories. One of the biggest problem I can see is new writers don't really get noticed. New writers don't get tons if comments, views, likes, heck the same goes for me. I think fimfiction.net could be better, there are jerks on there but I think it is a good site. Bronies are sometimes harsh towards new fan fic writers, they are brand new and need advise and help, but sometimes don't even get noticed. Personally I like fim fic more than fan fic as fim fic is easier to upload stories stories; You have to upload stories to fan fic and on fim fic you don't you can just write which is nice for people on mobile who want to make stories Edited February 25, 2014 by TwilightSparkle<3 Don't be a dweeb ~Gilda

Like i mentioned before, when i see reviews, i always look for the Constructive, and well-written ones. Most of the time now, I mostly see comments which are indeed childish and truly ridiculous, to a point where I think, "Why would they respond to something if they didn't even read it, nor understand the subject of the story". It truly is a wonder. 1 XBL: Riot Rojas 3DS Friend Code: 5300 - 9568 - 7902 WEB/CHANNEL: THREADS: Youtube - ThunderColt Studios MLP:FIM - Wrath of the Ancients Fan Fictions Weebly - ThunderColt Studios MLP:FIM: The Day Equestria Stood Still - Volunteers Wanted

Deesinn 393 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 No, everybody is very critical, and it's totally cool. If you're having a good time and people are reading what you write, that's the most you can ask for, anything else is extra. Just keep doing it. Dark Horn 430 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 A poor story requires criticism. If one were to write a poor story, it would receive criticism. If you spend a mere hour or two writing a short story and then publish it in the real world, chances are, people will mock it to no end. I don't think this is a problem with bronies, I think this is a problem with writing quality. That being said, ad hominem arguments are absolutely unacceptable and should be ignored, not complained about. Rockymoo 2,137 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 (edited) people always think it sucks to an un-believable extent, saying stuff like: 'Never write a damn thing again' or 'Why did you write this crap?'. That's because it usually IS that bad. There are SO many other ways to spend your time. Better ways. That goes for both reading them and writing them. Night Shine 769 February 25, 2014 Share February 25, 2014 Captain Obvious says, "If a fanfic sucks, then logically, it will be criticized!" I thought that we knew better than to trust cold-hearted logic with handling other peoples' works of art that they poured their hearts into, but maybe I was wrong. In response to the general topic, yes, yes we are. Those who write 'badly' don't know that they have made a mistake until that mistake is pointed out to them, so from their perspective, that makes criticism with even the slightest hint of anger or disapproval completely unjustified. My fic's reviews are a mixed bag at times but I keep writing because I find it fun. Keep going take criticism when needed and ignore the Gripers. Scootalove 10,689 February 26, 2014 Share February 26, 2014 It's because for most new fan fiction writers they don't know what they're doing, experience aside the thing is you have to at least put some effort in your first story and criticism can help them improve.
