Snow Mixed With Rain

When I first joined MLPForums, @Antismurf9001 encouraged me to post my music.  I posted what I believe is my best song - The Spacefarer (http://mlpforums.com/topic/48722-the-spacefarer/), but I never got around to posting anything else.  So here's another one I did a while back - a minimalist techno piece called "Snow Mixed With Rain".  I had been experimenting with Acid Music at the time, and this song basically wrote itself. :)  Please let me know what you think.

NOTE: The attachment link below is broken - the forum apparently can't handle MP3s.  Use this link instead: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/grfk82z2fdfdy7b

Huh.  It appears the forum ate my attachment - no wonder nobody's listened to this song yet. :(  Let's see if reuploading it helps.  (If not, I may have to break down and sign up for DeviantArt.)

(Nope, attachment no workie.  Gotta provide an external link - lemme get that going real quick...)

...wow, okay, DeviantArt may not work either.  It appears it's strictly meant for visual art, but while they allow me to upload the MP3 to the submitter, there's no category for music.  At all. :(

(EDIT 2) Alrighty, I uploaded this file to MediaFire: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/grfk82z2fdfdy7b .  That should work better. :)  (Sorry for the churn - I didn't realize the forum had trouble with MP3 files.)

(EDIT 3) ARGH.  This is immensely frustrating!  First it gave me a link to a completely unrelated file, then the forum inserted a player widget instead of a site link, and the widget doesn't work.  How hard can it be to share a piece of music?

Hang on folks, technical difficulties.

(EDIT 4) I think I finally got it.  Wow, that was painful.  Anyway, please let me know what you think. :)

Mmmm, I really like the controlled chaos you've got going on in your song! Really rich timbre it provides, damn. The mix gets a little messy, even for a song that I think is supposed to use that artistically. Levels of stuff could be equalized to one another, because some things like the risers and the panned bass plucks just get grating due to how bombastic they are in the mix. Needs a little more switching up, some automation and chopping up of the drum loop might do it a world of wonder.

Thanks. :)  I'll keep that in mind for future projects - since this one is 12 or so years old and I no longer have the original software I used to create it, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do much with it.  But I do appreciate the feedback and suggestions.

At the moment, I'm not actually producing any music - the most recent thing I did was the Panic Attack NES remix (posted in this thread last week), which was entirely done in FamiTracker.  But otherwise, I'm currently learning how to play the clarinet, and I also have a digital piano and a theremin.  But I'm not really doing anything current right now - mostly because I'm too busy with work. :P

(That, and I'm also dabbling a bit in writing, but again, nothing ready to publish yet.)

If I get back into this form of music, I'll probably install Acid Music (or whatever the current equivalent is) and play around with it some more.  It's worth noting that I have better hardware to work with now (better speakers than I did at the time I made this song, and a good set of studio-monitor headphones), so getting levels right should be easier.

Ah yeah, learning instruments always helps doesn't it? I say that while I have a million guitars lying around the house and I don't want to learn any of them. :o But that's just me being lazy. Good luck with your future artistic endeavors, mang!

Thanks. :)  I think part of my problem, too, is that I have a bit of a performance anxiety issue - specifically, the kind of anxiety that Fluttershy had in Filli Vanilli.  I love the creative process, but it actually takes a lot for me to seek out feedback on it, and unfortunately that gets in the way of me doing more.  So to some extent, being busy with work is somewhat of an excuse (it's absolutely true, but it's also something I could do more about).

Yeah I get performance anxiety too. On top of being incredibly self critical. So almost nothing I make is even remotely close to 'good enough' in my mind, you know? I totally get where you're coming from man, but guys like us just have to keep plugging on at it, I guess...
