The Chimera

Presenting Ellen Kennedy, voicing all 3 heads, as the chimera:

What can I say? This was arguably the best aspect of this episode. We had a unique new character that was a non-pony, in the vein of the timberwolves, but considerably more sentient although questionable in intelligence.

We once more saw Applejack jump into action with her sisterly intuition like she did for Spike and defeating a larger and stronger opponent than her all while protecting her sister.

The chimera itself was an initially scary, but also as it turns out very hilarious and entertaining character that was cleverly put into an otherwise stereotypical Mordor-esque fire swamp. The animation was great, as was this character.

While Somepony to Watch Over Me isn't one of the more quality episodes this season, it had lots of good laughs and gags, character growth and scenes like this that helped make it a memorable episode nonetheless.

Now if only they'd bring back Steven Magnet. He was a real class act.

Such a gentleman as Rarity herself might dare say.  :D

Always a pleasure to meet a new mythological whatzit! :D

I especially like that all three head had her own personality. I know we've had that before with the other multi-headed creatures (the Hydra and Cerebus), but the fact this one talked made thing interesting.

Now if only Cthulhu would stop by sometime ;)

I wasn't at all expecting this thing to talk, I was expecting it to be like, well, pretty much every other creature we've met in Everfree, which doesn't talk xD Hydra, Cockatrice, Manticore, etc. But, it was certainly not an unwelcome surprise. It was bad-ass and creepy, but hilarious too.

I actually woulda dug the thing more if it didn't talk, honestly.

This is all out of personal preference, but, I gotta say, I found it a lot more cartoonish than intimidating, which, is what I hope they were striving for; the episode a lot of other nice humor elements in it (the helmets, the song getting cut-off, etc.) and I gotta say, I felt this one to be unnecessary and actually took away from the Chimera herself.

Still not too bad of a villain, though, I gotta say :D

Begging your pardon, but are not Zecora and Steven Magnet residents of the Everfree Forest?

But you are right. This was a very welcome surprise to see a creature like the chimera talk and engage with Applebloom in a very intelligent manner. It adds flavor and diversity to the show as to the typical big bad scary monster gig. In her, er...THEIR, defense though, the chimera that is, they were just looking for food and they may had settled for just the pies had Applebloom given the pies to them. Applejack has a large potential market that she hasn't tapped into yet. Shame.

Oh look you just made Steven Magnet cry again. I hope you're happy.

Zecora hardly counts, as she's an equine/side character, but yes, you're right about Steven :D

i loved the chimera. (though the monologuing did get a little annoying >_> ) I'm hoping for some more mythological creatures. Maybe trolls, or gorgons?

I like the Chimera, I don't care if it talks or not, but why did they even make it relate to the episode. This is kind of a minor flaw, but I think they could've done more with it than the "sister over your shoulder" joke.

Seeing a new mythological creature in the show is always a treat for me. The only thing that I didn't like about the chimera was that I was unsure of how the writers wanted me to perceive the creature.

When it 1st came out and threatened to eat AppleBloom and her pies, I got an intimidating vibe from the creature. Then she does a complete 180 and begins to monologue to AB. It looks like they couldn't decide how to write the Chimera. Was it supposed to be scary and threatening, or funny and relatable?

Other than the identity crisis, I enjoyed the design of the beast. It just makes me wonder what creature is going to show up next?

I really liked this character. I always enjoy it when they bring mythological creatures into the show.

Speaking of mythology, I think the authors find that Greek Mythology is a great inspiration to them.

We've had Cerberus, Tartarus, the chimera.

When is Hydra going to show up ?

why does it have a tiger head though? it's supposed to have a lion head.

As it was depicted in mythology. But I guess the animators tried to maintain some originality. Does it really matter though? That sabertooth tiger was amazing.
