Thoughts on Maud Pie?

I thought she was pretty cool, too. It'd be neat if she returned in a future episode.

I'm pretty sure we'll see her again soon enough.

It was confirmed at SDCC 2014 that there will be a Pinkie Pie Family centric episode. :nom:

The funny thing is, Maud Pie works so well as a character specifically because of the universe that she's been placed in. She's supposed to be "boring", that's the point. She marches to her own drum, and it makes her stand out from the zany, colorful other characters. She works perfectly as a foil, especially to Pinkie Pie as she's the zaniest of the Mane Six.

As for the episode itself, I liked it. I thought its moral was pretty neat and a nice optimistic spin to the rather depressing alternative route they could've gone with, that "you can't be friends with everybody, some people you just don't click with". As mature of a moral that is, I think I like the one they chose better. It makes it seem like friendship doesn't have to be based on common interests, or people who are similar to you. You can reach out to people from completely different walks of life as long as you have something mutually to talk about - which in their case would be Pinkie Pie.

I enjoyed her character immensely, but my heart still belongs to AJ. She was a great contrast to Pinkie. I suppose you would have to have a sense of humor to enjoy such a Spartan existence as living on a rock farm. If you liked her humor, you should check out Steven Wright. He's very funny.

Maud is Maud. That means she's pretty darn amazing.  :maud:

The moral was actually the only thing I didn't like about the episode. I would have preferred a more mature lesson along the lines of "there are some people you can't be friends with, but that doesn't mean they aren't great people in their own way." What we get instead feels extremely forced and doesn't make sense. You can't forge a friendship on nothing but a love for somebody else.

Why can't you? Do you have any logical reason why you can't get along with someone based on a mutual bond with someone else? That's how I met and got to know a lot of the friends that I have.

Sure, eventually they'll have to branch out, but it's the one thing that they (currently) find that they have in common. They will find more, of course, as they get to know Maud as a character further, but it's a perfectly acceptable catalyst to a friendship.

To say that you absolutely cannot start a friendship based on that premise is awfully bleak. Come on, this is a place based on friendship being magic. I'm sure you could come up with something.

Ehhh, I can't say I like Maud. Since I couldn't care less for dry humour, the episode featuring her didn't interest me.

Buuut, I absolutely love what the fandom did to Maud. I love seeing any form of fan-related media featuring rock horse, as they have this charming humour to it.

If you don't like dry humour, you must be all wet. :P Nah, I'm kidding. Not everyone likes the same kinds of humour. For me, though, I love dry humour, so Maud Pie was a very entertaining episode for me.

Personally, I think she was trolling the others most of the time.
