TheMarkz0ne 962 April 4, 2014 #1 Share April 4, 2014 We all know Dash loves Daring Do. So you think Dash might have poured energy towards athleticism because she didn't want to appear that way towards her peers. Like she always calls Twilight an egg head and pokes fun of others for not being involved in any physical activity. You think Dash is contrary to what she appears to be?
Lisa 5,553 April 4, 2014 #2 Share April 4, 2014 I don't think she is a 'repressed' nerd, but I believe she just has a little nerd inside herself.
Moved to Elsewhere 11,331 April 4, 2014 #3 Share April 4, 2014 She does seem to have a nerdy side as seen in Read it and Weep, Daring Don't, and Rarity Takes Manehattan. I kind of like that. It gives some more depth to her character and leads to funny moments.
Shanks 10,816 April 4, 2014 #4 Share April 4, 2014 Possibly although it might have simply been a side to her that she might not have even knew she had, people are often surprised at what kind of things they can discover about themselves if they open their minds. I have both sides to me as well, I discovered my nerdy, bookish side first and then found my athletic side in my teen years I never abandoned one side or the other but merely saw them both as just parts of me and perhaps Rainbow Dash will eventually develop to the point where she will accept both of those sides of her. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Scootalove 10,689 April 4, 2014 #5 Share April 4, 2014 (edited) Possibly, but I think that when she first discovered that she has a different side to her when it comes to the Daring Do books she will more accepting of the two sides of her. But, she shows this side of her when she is alone. Edited April 4, 2014 by Scootalove Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
NovaCameron 13 April 4, 2014 #6 Share April 4, 2014 Not repressed, more like unexplored or undiscovered. Beings have sides of them they don't know. It's this 'discovery' process that allows beings to grow and learn. When a new side is doscovered it can be unconfortable as you don't know how others will take it. Which I think was handled well. Dash acknowlegded it but didn't know how to fit it into her sense of 'self'. It's this fitting and growing that is causes ponies to change. One I hope we'll see more of.
Swoony 196 April 4, 2014 #7 Share April 4, 2014 She has a nerdy side, but I donmt think that makes her a nerd exactly.
Shift 4,274 April 4, 2014 #8 Share April 4, 2014 My headcanon is that she is nerdy with Twilight about books when she's alone, but otherwise she's a full-blown jock. Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.
DND 2,355 April 4, 2014 #9 Share April 4, 2014 If you mean finding a geeky side for books, then sure. I don't know about a nerd, however. Nerds are generally the type that has a knack for studying and getting good grades at school. Geeks are more of those people who are greatly enthusiastic about certain types interests. For instance, she is very much an enthusiast for Daring Do, and sometimes that's generally spoken out as being "geeky". Those terms do get mixed up a lot, though. I once did as well. ghostfacekiller39 23,860 April 5, 2014 #10 Share April 5, 2014 I'm far from being an expert on RD, but given the books ("Read it and Weep") Fictional (?) character fandom ("Daring Don't") and interest in musicals ("Rarity Takes Manehattan" a.k.a. "Best Episode "), I'd say it's a sure thing Although, what knowledge I have of RD is that her passion for flying and all of those athletic type things seems too true to be feigned I'm not really much on RD knowledge Still trying to get to understand her character a little bit better, since I don't relate to her very much (or at all, according to the Pony Personality Test) and I was never able to get too deep into her character He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Tetrakemy 221 April 5, 2014 #11 Share April 5, 2014 That episode was to show little kids that its ok to read because reading is cool and fun! Not a nerdy pastime. Its something that everyone can enjoy. She is not a nerd. Although we all have a little nerd in us all! WE AAALLL DOOOOO
Singe 2,111 April 5, 2014 #12 Share April 5, 2014 (edited) Rainbow Dash is smart given that flying is very difficult, needs computation, and requires certain skills to master it. She handles the weather for the local region. She is more of a hotshot pilot than a jock. Edited April 5, 2014 by Singe
yeet 2,027 April 5, 2014 #13 Share April 5, 2014 I think she just likes sport and daring doo, and the egg head stuff is a bit of banter.
joecal97 340 April 5, 2014 #14 Share April 5, 2014 Apart from her loving daring do books a lot, I don't think she's a nerd at all! She's an athlete pure and simple apart from one book series. SilverStarApple 849 April 5, 2014 #15 Share April 5, 2014 It's very plausible, and explains a lot. What we've seen of Cloudsdale so far also supports this theory. I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. Hawk Moth 390 April 5, 2014 #16 Share April 5, 2014 Repression implies that she has always had it in her and is actively holding it back. Dashie just learned how much she liked a certain book series, and initially she tried to hide her interest, but the fact that she tried so hard to keep reading in secret shows that she wasn't repressing anything. If that were the case, she wouldn't have been reading at all but trying to convince herself instead that she didn't like Daring Do. Malinter 3,064 April 5, 2014 #17 Share April 5, 2014 (edited) I think as much as RD like to give off the impression she just goes "wing it" when it comes to thinking she's just as organised as Twilight. she IS the weather team manager after all. Somewhere in ponyville is a chart so complex it would have Twilight sweating just looking at it. After all, humans use computers to work it out. Gyruss 125 April 5, 2014 #18 Share April 5, 2014 When's the last time RD's berated Twilight for being an "egghead?" Season 2? Heck, when's the only time she's tried, enjoyed, and tried to hide a "nerdy" side? Again, season 2.Honestly outside of fanfiction, this question doesn't register given the way she's acted in the past several episodes she's been in.
