Twilight might be like Celestia someday. I just don't think we'll ever see it on screen. Ultimately, if it's her job to take over Equestria and choose a successor, how could she *not* be like Celestia eventually?

Twilight can be an almighty big alicorn while still being herself.

I just don't want the writers to downright replace Celestia and Luna with Twilight nor change Twilight's personality. I'm okay with most anything else.

It seems fairly clear that this is what the show is gearing up towards, with Twilight more often than not being the mentor and guide to her friends in an episode as of late Season 4. Now obviously she's going to have a different personality and style in filling Celestia's role. Less practiced, more awkward.

I generally agree with this.  Between Twilight Time and Testing, Testing 1-2-3 we have seen a Twilight very focused on sharing with those around her her love of knowledge and due to her transformation from shut-in introvert to relationship-focused administrator, she has had the opportunity to mentor and bring out the best in those around her (magic of friendship).  

 

It's not some mold of Celestia that Twilight is stepping into, but more she is becoming (to borrow from the Spike/Celestia comic) less of an "adventurer" and more of a "teacher".  She's growing up and becoming who she is but in the context of an adult world with appropriate responsibilities and priorities.  I imagine that, no matter how the finale unfolds, we will all get a sense of a very "adult" Twilight emerging from it.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, I mean she just became and Alicorn AND a princess last season and now she's getting her own castle which is Luna and Celestia's old one before their falling out, not to mention the fact that Celestia has been preparing Twilight for this for the majority of her life.

 

Plus, she seems to have become more mature this season without having any of her 'freak out arias' as Rainbow Dash so eloquently put it, since there haven't been any moments of stress-related magical abuse like the Smarty Pants incident.

 

So, it definitely feels like what they've been heading towards since 'Magical Mystery Cure' to where we are in this season in regards to her character development.

They look too....proportionally off, in the face at least, to be real. On topic, I really hope she doesn't, because, as said earlier in this thread, it'd look weird with her being so tall and her friends being like half her size. She'd stand out way too much. I don't think I'd mind her hair becoming wispy (if they can make it look good), please don't make her a giant among midgets.

I would like if Twilight stayed the same pony, but became ruler of equestria. Like if Celestia stepped down. Like it would be a good episode with twilight struggling to adapt. To get used to the royal guard following her around, and people bombarding her everywhere. It would be nice to see her officially take on role of princess, and still try to make her being with her friends work. It would make special character episodes easier. So we wouldn't have to keep seeing spike episodes and there would be more room for something like a big mac episode or more pinkie pie episodes! Her becoming princess, but her still being the same pony might be good for mlp!

So this is a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory situation then.

 

Celestia found grey hairs in her unexplained rainbow flow mane, so she started her School for Golden Tickets Gifted Unicorns to find the next ruler of the chocolate factory  Equestria, she just needs to put her through a series of oompa loompa song ridden candy making rooms tests to see if she's the chosen one.

 

But what about Luna?

I don't think even when the series ends Twi would completely replace Celestia and Luna; she might take on many of the more administrative duties that Celestia has been doing, thus having almost equal royal authority as Celestia; or just rule over part of Equestria like Cadence. But that's as far as I think it would go as to we would run into a host of other problems. 1. If the sisters completely retire who would govern the sun and moon? 2. If Twi did however become just like Celestia, solving problem #1, that would seem to indicate that she would become immortal, meaning she would outlive her friends by centuries (they could all become Alicorns but that would serve no purpose plot-wise other than to keep Twi from outliving the others ) . 3. Let's assume Twi doesn't become immortal and they figure another way to govern the skies, such as the Unicorns gain the knowledge to do it themselves like ye olden days. Then we are left with Twi choosing her successor somehow, which could be the same way her mentor did it it but... what if Hasbro wants a more and they lived happily ever after type thing; we would then get another wedding to take place and it would in all likely hood involve this dude :    just no !

My concern would be, that a cheap "and they lived happily ever after" trope would be pushed to happen, it would still be a concern of mine even if Twi didn't replace Celestia. I just think it might be more likely if she did replace Celestia, they would push harder for a wedding, "so the kids don't worry Twi will be lonely" or some crap like that. But then I could just be getting paranoid about the Flash Sentry thing, at least I pray I am...

Wait a minute! I thought Celestia was the designated Christ type figure in this show? But in all honesty do we really want them to give one of the mane six a romantic relationship, with everyone's shipping and head canons and so forth. You know 75% of the fandom would get ticked if somepony did get such a relationship (doesn't matter with who ). It's the type of situation where it is best to play it a bit safe and just leave it up to the viewers own imagination as to what the characters would do next.

Nope, it's never a side character. I mean, look at Transformers, Optimus in any form, is always robo-jesus. Celestia isn't close to what Hasbro makes their cartoon jesus be.

And of course it will, no matter how well they have the coupling. I mean, hell, myself and quite a few others, don't like the UsagiXMamoru relationship in Sailor Moon, even though that was pretty much canon from the get go...of course, most reasons is because the relationship as a whole is stupid and done very badly.
