I find that actually believable.

Also, we are the only country in the world that telecomms salespeople actively try to avoid calling.

This is because we will do one of two things:

1. Continuously swear at them until they hang up. (The most common)

2. Try and waste as much of their time as possible by dragging them out in this long pointless conversation

I myself prefer the second. Had this one guy going for about 50 minutes.

The longest anyone I know has ever had someone on the phone is two and a half hours. My friend had one call, and he said he couldn't do anything because he wasn't the landowner. He then went back to playing videogames leaving the phone off the hook

Then when his parents got home, he realised that the phone was still there, so he gave it to his parents. The guy was still on the phone. He had been sitting there for more than two hours, patiently waiting.

The youngest pope was 11 years old.

Actually, that age is derived from a lack of firm evidence as to the birth date of Pope Benedict IX. He was anywhere between 11 and 20 when he began his reign as pope, though no age is definitively known, though some sources list him as being between the ages of 18 and 20. Edited by Lady Rarity Pony

Kim Jong Il had a fear of heights

In the Second World War, Otto Carius' gunner shot down a Soviet aircraft with his Tiger I's 88mm L/56 cannon.

Lieutenant Colonel Jack Churchill is the only recorded British soldier to have felled an enemy with a longbow. He also carried a Scottish broadsword, bagpipes and arrows with him into battle.

With many Tiger I units having a kill ratio of 10:1, it was still insufficient to stave off the Soviet union's stunning production time.

On August 9, 1942, Soviet prisoners of war were forced to play a match of soccer/football against German Luftwaffe members, as team "FC Start" and "Flakelf" respectively.

The Soviet POWs went on to win the soccer match and were subsequently tortured by the Gestapo, and then executed by a firing squad (which the exception of one, whom died from the torture).

After the Japanese surrender during World War II, many Japanese inhabited Pacific islands refused to surrender, while others had no idea the war had ended. These became known as "Japanese holdouts". Hiroo Onoda, a former Japanese army intelligence officer in the Philippines held out until 1974, 29 years after the war had ended.

In Nazi-occupied Europe, many prisoners of war and civilians were forced to fight for the Nazis. These forces included unique units comprised of Belgian, Danish, Estonian, French, Greek, Hungarian, Polish, Norwegian, and British (including Canadians, Australians, and New Zealanders) soldiers.

From 1944 to 1945, the Japanese launched over 9,000 "Fire Balloons" against North America. Only 1,000 made it to North America. While for the most part ineffective, 6 Americans were killed from a single explosion in 1945.

On June 3, 1942, the Japanese captured the Alaskan islands of Attu and Kiska from the United States in the Aleutian Campaign. The gained territory had no effect against the United Sates, with most of the Japanese casualties resulting from booby traps, bad weather, and friendly fire.

After the raid on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese pilot, Shigenori Nishikaichi crash landed on the Hawaiian island of Ni'ihau, as Japanese pilots were instructed to do, should they not be able to return to their aircraft carriers. The pilots were erroneously informed that the island was uninhabited. After crash landing, he was treated as a guest by the local inhabitants. Once the inhabitants learned of the attack on Pearl Harbor, he along with 3 local Japanese civilians who attempted to aid in his escape, were killed. This is known as the Ni'hau incident.

The Giant Asian Hornet, Vespa mandarinia, is the largest hornet/wasp in the world. They reach two inches long, with a wingspan of about 3 inches. They often raid normal honey bee nests and slaughter them, stealing the honey bee's larva to bring back to thier own young. It takes only a few hours for twenty to thirty Giant Hornet's to massacre a colony of 30,000 honeybees.

The McDonnell Douglas F-15 "Eagle" fighter Jet has the best service record out of any military aircraft that has ever been put into service: somewhere in the order of 800 confirmed kills have been made by F-15s, and there has yet to be one that has been shot down. Thus its kill/death ratio is about 800:0.
