In Equistria are Earth Ponys the dominant race?

True we do see more EP but I figure that's more due to most of the places we see dominated by them. But if you were to take Equestria as a whole do you think there would still be more EP than the others or do you think as far as pure numbers are concerned they are more or less equal?

Although there may be some bias coming into play here, I've seen about an even spread of Unicorns and Earth ponies, while a smaller number of pegasi ponies :D

I'll try and think of a list, hold up

Unicorns -

Rarity
Trixie
Colgate
Lyra

Amethyst Star
Sweetie Belle
Magnum
Pearl

Twilight's Mom

Twilight's Dad
Shining Armor
Fluer Dis Lee

Fancy Pants
Blue Blood
Jet Set
Upper Crust

Trenderhoof ( :eww: )
Flim
Flam

Pegasus Ponies:

Fluttershy
Rainbow Dash
Spitfire
Fleetfoot
Soarin'
Cloude Chaser
Flitter
Thunderlane
Bulk Biceps
Derpy
Scootaloo
Lightning Dust

Earth Ponies -

Applejack

Pinkie Pie

Bon Bon

Cheerilee

Diamond Tiara

Silver Spoon

Apple Bloom

Big Mac
Granny Smith

Hayseed Turnip Truck
Maud Pie

Filthy Rich

Pipsqueak

Suri Polomare
Coco Pommel
Berry Punch

Cheese Sandwich

That's all I can think of off of the top of my head :D

So, I think there's roughly the same number of Earth Ponies as there are Unicorns, with less pegasi ponies :D

Well I wouldn't say dominant as much as "easier to draw" because there aren't horns or wings to figure out positioning(such as how it'd look from a certain position or angle kind of thing) or with wings, positioning, flapping, spread open, flying, broken etc etc. Its just a pony.

So yeah you see a lot of Earth ponies unnamed or otherwise because it's easier to draw or something like that I guess. Least that's what I think. >.>

Someone needs to get counting all the different species on the MLP Wikia. :)

Anyway, the ratio count is dependent on what the population is of each part of Equestria. Ponyville is widely populated by Earth Ponies, of course, but then Canterlot is full of unicorns, and Cloudsdale full of Pegasi. So if one of those three civilisations has more of a population than the others, you can count on that to bring the dominant species.

I would find it logically feasible for there to be more Earth Ponies, though. After all, they're the hardiest of the three, and their proficiency is in agriculture, which is very much key to survival. Their lack of horns/wings also means they'd be less likely to get into accidents, so head counts would end up being higher.

It is likely they are the most numerous race, as they appear as "standard" in comparison to real horses and hold responsibility for agriculture, which is the main accupation for pre-industrial civilizations like Equestria (in mediaval Europe 80% worked in agriculture). I assume 50% are Earth Ponies, followed by 30% Pegasi, which are the middle-class and a large 20% Unicorn nobility. ^^

Well dominant isn't the best choice of words. Unicorns rule from Canterlot. The Pegasus live apart in cloud cities.

I guess Earth Ponies really do dominate the menial, grunt labor positions in life.

Sure maybe there are more earth ponies, but they have no more clout in Equestria than they did before Hearth Warming Eve.

The other two races are just nicer to them, that's all.

If you're an Earth Pony, just learn to say, "Yes sir!" and "No Maam!" and we'll all just get along fine.

Define how you would like to use "dominant" when asking that question.

Are we talking about Earth Ponies being the most numerous type of pony?

Or are we talking in terms of governing structure and social structure?

^ hah, this . . .  sigh I make myself sad.  I'm waiting for that earth pony revolution to erupt now lol.

Don't feel bad for Earth ponies. Notice how most of the towns have Earth Ponies, with the exception of Cloudsdale and Canterlot.

I wouldn't say dominance, but Earth Ponies and Unicorns have almost the same amount of ponies while pegasi have a good number of  them just not as much. Earth Ponies are pretty present in some areas like towns, rural areas, etc.

But, there is a fair number of them.

I think there're as much earth ponies as pegasi or unicorns.

There're maybe more earth ponies in Ponyville because it's a city built by earth ponies, according to Granny Smith's story.

But seeing how genetic works (the Cake family), 2 ponies can have either a pegasus, an earth pony or a unicorn. So there should be 33% of EP, 33% of pegasi and 33% of Unicorns in Equestria.

Plus there're maybe cities in Equestria only inhabited by pegasi or unicorns. So no, Earth Ponies aren't the dominant race.

I think there are equal numbers. From what I've seen there is a pegasus only city (cloudsdale) a mostly unicorn city (canterlot) and ponyville used to be mostly earth, but there is probs a major city with lots of EP somewhere. Then theres a lot of mixed cities

Of nearly 1,000 ponies that have appeared on the show: 60% are Earth Ponies, 22% are Pegasi, and 18% are Unicorns.  Indeed Earth Ponies are more numerous than any other race.

Blimey, you actually did count them! God's work, Forlong :)

Just another reason why Earth Ponies are osum! ^^

Alicorns, are the dominant race, no doubt about it.

They have features of every 3 pony races, except strength (or do they?).

At least, that's what I think. ^^

Alicorns are just a product of a magical catalyst causing a mutation using the genes of Earth, Pegasus, and Unicorn in that pony's own DNA. Most of the pony population should be carrying the genetic makeup of all three.
