technology UrtheCast and Social networking Idea

My idea involves Urthecast: http://www.urthecast.com/

 

The idea is a social network that involves taking the images of the Earth by the ISS and making it a network-type website that is slightly similar to Facebook, but a person gets to see what is going on around the profiles in a particular area. When a person creates an account and says what state, country, and city they live in the profile will appear in that particular area.

I will be programming it so the images appear in the proper areas. Anyways, the point is if someone comes across an area and sees something interesting going on(since the images will be updated daily/weekly), they can click on profiles near the area and see if those people are talking about it. If not, people can click on that area and post a "note" there for everyone to see(of course with anti-spam measures taken).

 

What does everyone think about the idea? Too much like Facebook?
