Favorite Spike episode?

My favorite Spike episode would be Just For Sidekicks. I don't understand why so many people hate that one

I don't know why so many people hate that episode either; I thought it was a pretty fun Spike episode.  :P

Secret of My Excess. Extremely hard to fault it, it's wholly underrated and beautifully written. Solidified the Sparity relationship that had only seen snippets of in former episodes, great character accuracy, had one of my favourite Pinkie Pie moments (I'm not giving him cake, I'm assaulting him with cake!) and the symbolism with the Fire Ruby was excellent. :)

My favorite is mostly out of past feeling now: Dragon Quest (a.k.a., the worst season-two episode). I like it most because you could really feel sorry for Spike being mocked and marginalized by the teenage dragons in Act 2 and the Mane Six in the middle of Act 1. He had an admirable goal, but it was marred by some really terrible writing. So I like it in spite of how bad it is.

The best one, on the other hand: Secret of My Excess. It plays off Spike's greed very well and came off naturally. Despite not really giving any answers to possible questions to Spike's greed totally, it was very well written and portrayed him in a sympathetic light.

@, @, I hate Just for Sidekicks because Spike himself was written very terribly. You can check out why here.

If I were to pick it based solely on writing and plot, I would give it to "Secret of My Excess", with "Equestria Games" being a runner up.

However, the animation of adolescent Spike is so horrendous it's painful to watch. The animators most of the time make Flash 8 somehow look like hand-drawn animation, and it looks excellent. But in ths episode adolescent Spike's arms and legs spin around stiffly like they're made of cardboard - classic poorly done Flash.

So due to that issue and "Equestria Games" being almost as good a Spike episode, I have to give the top spot to "Equestria Games".

I think my favourite Spike episode would have to be "Just for Sidekicks". Mainly because I was on edge half of the time because he kept messing things up...

I also really liked how there wasn't much mention of the Mane 6, and it flowed really nicely into the next episode! it was great!

Equestria Games or Secrets of my Excess. Man, both are fantastic.

Equestria Games gave me several surprises that puts it firmly in the spot of being my favorite. I'll try not to keep this short rather than a proper episode review.

We all know that while Spike has a good heart, he is a bit of a braggart too. Just part of his nature as a dragon I would suppose, one which he may overcome as he grows older. This is beside the point though, just a semi-relevant, tangential thought. He started off this episode by being self-assured. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, it's a good quality for one to possess. But stage fright took over and made him choke in a vital moment, and he was rescued by a good little deed from his close friend, Twilight. It went to his head before learning the truth, and here's where I expected the episode to stay for the next 15 minutes — Spike boasting and strutting around. To my pleasant surprise, the news was quickly broken to him. My expectation was that this episode would be him bragging about something he didn't do, making a complete fool of himself, and having a number of apologies to hand out. Spike should have known better by now and so I'm delighted this wasn't the case.

Long story, short: he moped around for a while instead of doing that, plagued by a low sense of self-worth rather than feeling overshadowed as he did when Owlowiscious arrived, and regained that in the end when the endangerment of his friends brought a burst of resolve which couldn't be instilled through kind words alone. He saved his friends, surprised himself with his own abilities, and was appropriately humble about it afterwards.

Much better than how I envisioned things unfolding, so my own low expectations no doubt contributed to my great love of this episode. Spike ruining the Cloudsdale anthem in front of the entire stadium made me as embarrassed as I've ever been for another person, cringing the whole time. That means that it was executed perfectly. Never have I been so glad in retrospect to be vicariously humiliated. xD

A lot of people don't like it, but Dragon Quest is probably my favorite spike episode. I thought it was pretty funny. The beginning always cracks me up when Fluttershy stomps on Rainbow Dash. :P

I will admit though, that Spike's episodes usually aren't the best.

Just for Sidekicks! I need more episodes that have Spike, the pets, and the CMC in one episode. I just feel like they're awesome friends and have adventures when the Mane Six are doing their own thing.

Equestria Games was probably my favorite Spike episode, simply because what Spike went through in that episode I can relate to, I struggle with trying to impress people and not let anyone down, and sometimes if I slip up a little, I feel like I ruined everything and everyone hates me and is disappointed in me, so Spike I feel ya buddy!
