Breezies or Flutterponies? What are they, and which should return?

I think a lot of people, first off, seem to be confused about what Breezies seem to be, both in G3 and G4. To me it seems, fairly obvious- because of the transparent wings, antennae and extremely tiny size in relation to actual bugs in the MLPverse, they're clearly bug type ponies, though a lot of people seem to be mistaking them for fairy-type ponies.

Flutterponies, on the other hand...er...hoof....though never having an appearance in G4, unfortunately (and I hope they will) appeared in G1 and were shown to be a few inches taller than the baby Ponies; smaller than the adult Little ponies, but still nowhere near the size of insects, like the Breezies- and seem to be far more like faries- as they produce a twinkling sound when they fly, emit some sort of fairy dust from their wings, and can't seem to fly when their wings are wet, have a strong connection with nature (as many of the flutterponies have flower names and cutie marks), and are led by a queen (much of this is in common with the Disney faries)

So I think the difference is obvious; one's a bug type, the other's fairy type. Which do y'all want to see, maybe, get an appearance in MLP: FIM season 5? Since the Breezies already had their debut, do you guys think Flutterponies should get some spotlight? Or should the Breezies (ugh) return, for whatever reason (even though they're from G3, and supposedly everyone claims to have hated that era)?

I the only gen that hasn't had these types of ponies was gen 2. Since gen 3 actually created the Breezies, and because that is the most up-to-date style, that's probably why the creators of gen 4 decided to use it. Honestly I like both Breezies and flutter ponies, but I think that having a Flutterpony appearance in season 5 would get a bit redundant, I would still welcome it though.

Yeah, gen 2 wasn't very fantasy based.

I'm sorry you seem to feel like Flutterponies be redundant. ):

I think Breezies and Flutterponies are the same. A fairy ponies. Maybe Breezies will return if Smooze show up again? Since he could only be stopped by their fairy dust.

The Breezies were already introduced and established as a character, the only real difference between Breezies and Flutterponies is size. That would probably confuse a lot of people who haven't watched gen 1 and 3.

Well I see them both as (fairy) types and changelings on the bug side as far as we may know the Flutterponies may of became changelings both got a ruler pretty similar size both got (bug like) wings for osme reason this makes sense....but we have to see where canon takes us.

I'm not getting how people think of Breezies as a fairy type. I mean, in "It ain't easy being Breezie's", they're shown to be collecting pollen (and have antennae, and thin, really bug-like legs) and that gives off the impression that they're bugs. Pollinators, like bugs tend to be. Not really faries, imo. (especially without the fairy dust, like faries in most media (and Flutter ponies, being fairies, themselves) tend to have)

The Changelings being flutterponies makes even less sense. Yes, they both are led by a queen, but unlike Changelings, Flutterponies aren't said to feed off of love, or be as aggressive- they tent to want to be left alone and not deal with the problems of other species, in fact. (nor can they change their appearance, like Changelings)

I was thinking on the (cursed) line so it would make sense if they had once been flutterponies but have became changelings after some kind of curse which myself would find that a interesting episode along with a good episode to reform the changelings...

The Flutterponies of G1 have never been cursed, though, so how exactly would they transform into Changelings? (and why Changelings, at that?) there were witches back in that time, but they certainly wouldn't curse the Flutterponoes- if they did- to be a race that fed off of love, of all things.

I think Flutter ponies and Changelings should remain completely separate species due to the fact that Changelings- like the Breezies, seem more insect-like, rather than fairy-like.

Fluttershy is the only flutter pony this show need :yay:

she's not a Flutterpony, though

ok, so one no for Breezies

What about the Flutter Ponies?

I'm not sure about them, I didn't watch g1. But if they're as annoying as the breezies I don't want them in the show.

I don't think they are. They're really cool and aren't as...clingy and demanding as Breezies.

Oh, then I wouldn't mind if they added flutterponies to G4. :)

I think one could argue that there is a lot of crossover between bugs and fairies in general. Stories of fairies likely arose in folklore from sightings of actual rare and/or beautiful bugs such as butterflies and especially fireflies. In a universe like FIM, where nature and magic are so closely tied, I can easily see certain bugs doubling as fairies.

I honestly want nothing from past generations to "return" into G4. It honestly pisses me off that Bronies see the past generations as a mining field for ideas! If G1 made Flutter Ponies, then let it stay in G1; there is no reason at all for a great idea to be picked at and made absolutely worse by putting it into G4! G1 did a great job with Tirek, and he pretty much sucked in G4 in my opinion. Breezie's sucked too; they're flimsy little brats in G4, and almost anything can harm them! Again, there is no reason at all for an amazing idea from the past gens to be picked at, changed, and randomly "return" into G4. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm going on a little rant, but that's my opinion.

if you feel that way, then say bye bye to 3/4 of the Mane 6, because they were characters from G1, themselves. Same from g3 and G3. You can say goodbye to some of the G4 background ponies, too, in that case.

I'll agree with you that the Breezies sucked, but everyone seems to love G4 Tirek, so it's a hit or miss with incorporating past gen characters. It was a hit with the mane 6, too, who also come from past gens. And if it weren't for those ponies, the show wouldn't exist as what it is, today

so it really sounds like you're just bitter and hostile against past gens, and are nitpicking. I don't believe if Flutter Ponies are brought in, that they'll be nearly as bad as the breezies, but hold their own with the other characters brought over from past gens.

All this talk of "Bug type" or "Fairy type" makes me think of Pokémon! As far as I know, bugs don't build little houses, nor can they communicate with us. Fairies are generally accepted to be able to do both... and most bugs don't live in a separate pocket dimension that is only accessible for short periods. So, I would be more inclined to classify them as fairies than as bugs.

And I loved the little guys/gals, with their Gaelic accents and distractable personalities.
