      I plan to be a good parent.... So what would it take for someone to not keep secrets between parent and child?....

      It's not about "secrets."

      It's about venting your feelings down. Trust had nothing to do with it. You just have to understand that there are some things that your child may not be comfortable discussing. Or maybe they're just writing stuff down as memories like @Miss said.

      But if you want to be a good parent, NEVER go through your child's Diary. That is a terrible breach of privacy, and may actually cause trust issues.
