  1. I doubt it was that same manticore, but that would be sort of tragic. They could've run away, from the manticore... they could have also left the forest after she broke the cliff. But whether or not they could've run away, the manticore still tried to kill or at least hurt them while they were there. That lunge it made with it's claws nearly took Rarity's head off. It's possible she was trying to get them to leave, but that seems a bit unlikely and still had a good chance of hurting them seriously.
  2. Thanks, I was just offering some thoughts I hadn't seen anyone discussing here. It's sort of a debatable topic. Dropping the mane six off a cliff was something that could have quite easily killed them if there weren't two pegasi in the group capable of carrying them. Nightmare Moon had no reason to think the manticore wouldn't be able to kill them after she panicked it with that thorn. The spooky trees and the shadow bolts didn't seem intended to harm them, just to try and stop them from reaching the elements. It's possible when Nightmare Moon charged at Twilight she was going to attack her, but who knows what she was intending to do there.
  3. There's something people seem to be forgetting about Luna's guilt, it wasn't just the bad things she actually did as Nightmare Moon. It's also what she attempted to do and what she could no longer do because she got herself banished. She tried to murder the mane six multiple times, as well as trying to kill her sister and cause the apocalypse, if someone tried to kill you and failed you wouldn't treat that like nothing just because they didn't succeed. We also see Equestria a thousand years after she was banished, but back then Luna was one of the only two alicorns and an element bearer. She had very important responsibilities as a ruler of Equestrian. Even if Luna didn't think ponies appreciated her, that doesn't mean she didn't have important royal duties that would cause chaos if they stopped being done. Who knows how ponies reacted to one of their immortal rulers suddenly disappeared. We know for a fact there's at least one thing that Luna can do that Celestia can't, which is protect ponies dreams. It wasn't like Luna just threw a temper tantrum and then got over it, she forced Celestia to suddenly adapt to ruling equestria alone. I'd say that Celestia couldn't use the elements anymore after the trauma of banishing her own sister, but that would be veering into serious speculation territory. Loved the episode, by the way. Though the end would have had more impact if it were a bit less rushed.
  4. Thank you! I used screenshots of Tirek as a base, but it was a lot of fun rendering him in my own style. It helps that FIM has a great visual aesthetic to work with for the most part.
  5. Well, then thank you so much! Hearing that is pretty amazing! I want to say more, but I guess that leaves me a little bit speechless, thank you again!
  6. I really like these! I'm not very familiar with making vectors, but using the mouse for any art is impressive in my book. They're faithful to the show's style, but still distinctly look like yours. Very cute and aesthetically pleasing. The only issues are very small, little things like Celestia's chin in the banana picture coming to an extremely sharp point. That kind of stuff will improve, if it hasn't already. Good work!
  7. Wow! I'm flattered that this was capable of shocking you into multiple paragraphs! That is of course assuming your being serious, which I never can tell over the internet. Considering your self proclaimed motto is about sarcasm, your post might just be the slightest bit hyperbolic. If that's the case then I'm still glad you took the time to post. Or if you are being semi-serious, thank you! I've gotten plenty of compliments, but I've never gotten that reaction to my art! I never considered my sketches the kind of thing that ignites the human soul, but i'd be gleeful as all hell if you mean that! Most of my sketches I draw for myself, but hearing someone else enjoyed it that much is really great. Jest or not, feel free to tell me if I'm being silly!
  8. Thank you so much, I'm glad you like it! I made it partially because I saw all the people making cool character studies of Tirek, he seemed like such a blast to draw. And I was right! Trying to get the effect of his magic right was kind of tricky, but I think it adds a lot to the picture. On the other hand, Tirek's smug smirk practically drew itself onto the page, his character is so naturally good at looking bad.
  9. Thanks! Discord is always fun to draw, even if his face structure is a pain to get right. I drew the first picture based on a screenshot, so at least I repeated someone else's wonkyness. Or perhaps something just got messed up in the proportions when the pose got transferred from screen to paper. I just really liked how his expression and his fur were in that shot.
  10. I know it's been a while since the season finale, but I really liked Tirek's design. I did some sketches of him and him and Discord just for fun. They're obviously not finished pieces, but I think I like how they turned out. I'm not quite sure about his magic in the second picture though, that was just such a nice effect in the show. I'm always worried when drawing FIM stuff that my style is too close to the shows, that I'm just copying the designs without really doing much drawing myself. I tried to portray them differently enough to make them interesting to look at, but I like to know what you fine folks think of them. Any thoughts or critiques are appreciated. Also, the pictures are taken from my phone because my digital scanner is in storage at the moment, so please excuse the image quality. 11. Ah, the joys of untangling multi-generation plot lines with vague connections... I bet there are a thousand hardcore Legend of Zelda timeline crunchers who would wail their ghostly wail with you in empathy!
  12. Oh dear, I think I'm going to abandon this train of thought before I derail the entire thread. Waifu stealing is a dangerous and wicked art, talking about them only stirs the Waifu stealers from their watery slumber in the halls of Waifu'lyeh.
  13. So what you're trying to say is that... Scorpan has been stealing our waifus since G1?!
  14. Pretty interesting to read, but I have some questions. it mentions Tirek escaping from Tartarus, but it never mentions him and Scorpan coming to equestria in the first place. It would have to have happened after Celestia and Luna's return, but before Starswirl's death. Did you just not find a place in the timeline for it yet? Also, if Rescue At Midnight Castle is canon, how was Tirek still alive to invade Equestria in the first place. The storybook flashback is clearly not a Rescue At Midnight Castle due to a multitude of different reasons, including Equestria not existing yet, Starswirl, the Alicorn Sisters, ect... If the rainbow of light didn't destroy Tirek, then what did it do to him and how did he return to infiltrate Equestria all those years later? Scorpan seems to be the thing that really destroys any attempt at continuity between the gens. Not only would Scorpan have to have been Tirek's brother without anyone mentioning it in G1, but he returned to being a human prince at the end of the special. For this to work: - A human prince would have to be Tirek's brother - Tirek transforms him into a monster, and threatens him into servitude -He betrays Tirek and helps the ponies defeat him, causing him to become human again -Over a thousand years pass, Tirek has returned. Scorpan is somehow a monster again and has rejoined Tirek. -Scorpan chooses ponies over Tirek again and betrays him again, keeps his monster form and just leaves Scorpan being a monster and Tirek's loyal brother seems to directly contradict the G1 version of Scorpan, unless you can come up with some convincing answers to resolve these issues.
  15. Actually, according to the Greek myths this Tartarus is based on, there shouldn't be fire or anything like that. They seem to be using the original idea of Tartarus, that of it being a giant desolate stone prison at the bottom of the world, where the gods most powerful enemies are imprisoned. So no, no lava or hellfire called for. EDIT: Here, I found some quotes about Tartarus. (Or Tartaros) "For a brazen anvil falling down from heaven nine nights and days would reach the earth upon the tenth: and again, a brazen anvil falling from earth nine nights and days would reach Tartaros upon the tenth. Round it runs a fence of bronze, and night spreads in triple line all about it like a neck-circlet, while above grow the roots of the earth and unfruitful sea. There by the counsel of Zeus who drives the clouds the Titan gods are hidden under misty gloom, in a dank place where are the ends of the huge earth." -Hesiod, Theogony 715 "Broadbeard Kronos sank under the thunderbolt, and Zeus sealed him deep in the dark Tartarean pit, armed in vain with the watery weapons of the storm." -Nonnus, Dionysiaca 24. 230 Note the words, "misty gloom" "dank place where are the ends of the huge earth" and "dark Tartarean pit"
  16. Actually, according to Greek mythology Tartarus was pretty spot on. It's supposed to be a desolate gloomy prison, at least in the original myths. Later on it became more classically hell-like, but that's not the rendition of Tartarus used here. It's not supposed to be filled with fire and brimstone and such, it's a cold pit of infinite darkness. Nothing has indicated this is an actual MLP equivalent to hell. Tartarus is supposed to be below hades, an abyss at the very bottom of the world. It's more like the actual early Greek Tartarus, where the powerful enemies of the gods were cast to be imprisoned away from the world. Later on especially wicked humans were also cast there for punishment, but the idea of it remained essentially the same.
  17. I have to agree with the majority of the thread, the FIM universe's technology level seems to be early to mid 1900's. I believe when the show writers were questioned about stuff like the heart monitors it they just said basically 'Magic', noting how the device wasn't actually plugged into anything. Whenever they want to add some tech that doesn't quite fit the rest of the theme they just explain it away as magitek. It's all fairly internally consistent, at least with magic taken into account. Except of course for this one little cameo in Rarity Takes Manehatten that basically blows it all out of the water. A telephone! RIght there on the desk is a rotary telephone! It's the only evidence of long distance instant communication in Equestria besides Spike and other magic like that. Seeing a telephone raises so many questions. The only explanation I could think of that didn't turn everything on it's head is that it's only a local landline. We've seen guards with radios and security with headsets, like when the goats talked to Iron Will. So we know there's short distance radio headset style communication. The only issue with that is that every other technology in FIM behaves like it's earth counterpart, so it doesn't really make sense for the telephone to not work like a phone.
  18. Yeah, the gods in GoW seem to either be just moderately powerful/strong magical creatures. Or just genius loci of whatever their particular sphere of influence is, if even that. Power levels are relative to each setting, when you have alicorns and things like Discord and Tirek running around the GoW gods don't seem that impressive. The GoW greek gods are pretty unimpressive in the godly power department, hell, even in a YA book series like Percy Jackson the gods can turn you to ash just by revealing their true forms. It doesn't matter if they're the king badasses of the GoW verse when they're outmatched by many other action heavy greek mythology interpretations. For obvious game design reasons the GoW gods are vulnerable to the types of attacks that Kratos uses, otherwise they wouldn't work in a gameplay sense. Tirek doesn't have those sorts of setting and gameplay induced weaknesses. He was made to be imposing and ridiculously powerful enough to match Twilight in a massive power scale battle.
  19. Oh my sweet Celestia, this thread is glorious. It's kind of mind blowing after four seasons of MLP to find that we're seriously debating our new villain Vs. Kratos. Even if someone is of the position that Kratos would win, the fact that they're in the same power tier as to be discussed with such magnitude. What's equally mind blowing, at least for me, is that pre alicorn magic Tirek admitted to being equal in combat to Alicorn infused Twilight. The fact that as long as she could keep out of melee and her shield held that Twilight Sparkle might be able to obliterate Kratos is so much fun. It's the same sense of euphoria seeing Twilight only come up to giant horned demonic Tirek's hoof, yet being more than a match for him. It's such a bizarre and striking image, it puts into perspective how weirdly and terrifyingly powerful the alicorns are. I can see why the peaceful pony nation has remained dominant for centuries. Our little Twilight, tiny purple unicorn type pony, stomping Kratos into the dust with magical nukes the size of buildings. Anyway, this thread isn't about debating crazy powered up Twilight, so I'll stop with that before I get warned for off topic. Tirek is given such a stunningly impressively amount of magical oomph, Kratos seems like a good match for fighting him. At least in the terms that Kratos is used for fighting giant godlike beings. Still, I agree with your points about Tirek's versatility and ability to strike at Kratos without being at risk of retaliation make him seem the much more likely victor. That's of course if were talking about pre alicorn magic Tirek, otherwise he would steamroll everything like you said. I don't care how much of an improbable god slaying badass Kratos is at decapitation range, Tirek has shields stronger than mountains and city leveling destructive magic. Tirek was scaring even me when he walked away from Twilight's city buster attacks like it was a minor inconvenience. If it was Tirek at his strongest shown it would go from a tough fight to a goddamn slaughter. Part of me wants to say this scale of fighting and violence is just window dressing that doesn't really pertain to the heart of great writing and character based stories that make this show so special. The much larger part says the battle was awesome and it progressed the story in a satisfying way, it was just so freaking cool to see the MLP staff make this kind of bold choice.
  20. I compiled the two and made it into an actual video, that way you don't have to manually sync it each time. It has the original poster's stamp of approval I'm telling you this completely for your own benefit. Definitely not because I absord attention like Tirek absorbs magic.
  21. Heh, Thank you. I'm just glad you gave me the idea in the first place! That version of His World somehow managed to make the fight even more badass, which is quite a feat, considering.
  22. You've got that right, my jaw literally dropped when Twilight first let loose that massive magic beam with all the colors and special effects! It's not just the pretty magic effects, the whole thing was so fluid and well put together, it was amazing.
  23. Really? It's not that I can tell, I synced it up frame by frame. The first bit comes in when Tirek fires at the library, then the main part kicks in when Twilight unfolds her wings. The part where Tirek tackles her and Twilight blasting Tirek into the ground seem spot on as well. Perhaps we just had a slightly different sync in mind? I'm not sure where else it would match up, how do you think it should be?
  24. Well, they couldn't just destroy it! Do you know how much they pay for each of those windows? Moving it into storage would just be such a bother. Eh, I thought the same thing when I saw it, but it's a relatively small gripe.
  25. I compiled the song and video from Shady Bubble's post into an actual video. Hope you guys might enjoy seeing it without having to manually sync it up every time! If this isn't the appropriate place to post this then I apologize, but a lot of people seem to be posting soundtracks for that fight scene here.
