What is the latest pony related merchandise you bought?
Foliha replied to Apple Bloom's topic in Merchandise
Finally! I got my "Flutter On" resin figure from We love Fine. It was a lo-o-o-o-o-o-ong wait, but worth it. I have a friend who is a glass-blower and he made me a bell-jar for it. Can't be too careful when you have a curious cat! Also got a Big Macintosh hoodie from Redbubble. This is the design. (I put it on the back of a a brown hoodie.)- 4,330 replies

Loved the brown/blue color scheme for the warring factions. Was a bit alarmed by the idea that carrots can pierce wooden shields. Was amused by Twilight's never-flagging assumption that she would fix the problem in moments. It was really Flutters that fixed it, btu she would have probably not have had the courage to start all by herself. So it's good they both went.

Beyond the absence of an oestrus cycle, mares may not show any visible signs of pregnancy for the first three months. Pregnancy can be confirmed by ultra-sound after approximately two weeks after the breeding took place. Blood and urine testing can be done two to three months after conception. Alternatively, a veterinarian may be able to manually feel changes in the mare's uterus approximately six weeks into the pregnancy. http://horses.about.com/od/basiccare/a/Horse-Reproduction.htm horses are pregnant for 11 mos. That includes ponies! So even if Cadance is 3 mos. along, we will probably not see the foal until next season.

Why does Equestria have fat unicorns?
Foliha replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
While I agree that excessive drinking, drinking that is not under the control of the drinker, drinking that is compulsive or a way to escape one's problems is detrimental. Not all drinking is a problem. I do not drink at all - being raised by raging alcoholics saw to that, but I am aware that there are those who are able to drink mindfully and moderately, and it is actually an enhancement to their lives. I personally find drinking abhorrent. But I am aware that it's because I was personally harmed by having parents who were alcoholics. Just like some people are afraid of and dislike dogs because they were bitten. This does not mean all dogs are biters or dangerous. "lack of commitment though is the single-most contributing factor to the climbing obesity rate in America alone." I would like to see a reference to studies that support this notion. I think that the great emphasis on the way a person looks, in out culture and its media, is why there is a social stigma on being overweight. It is also responsible for the anorexia epidemic among young people. That, and models who destroy their health by trying to be the little stick-people that the fashion industry demands is the other side of the coin. Being obese is clearly bad for one's health. Being plump - not so much. But I think it is important to know that being obese is a symptom of an illness or an emotional dysfunction. It's no good trying to kill a weed by pinching the top of of the plant. You must pull it up by the roots. Harshing on someone because they're fat will not help them find the courage to change. It will just make them retreat further into themselves. If you care, truth can be delivered with tact. If you don't, why say anything at all? -

(bolding and italics in the quoted posts is mine) I did read your posts, and they seem very judgmental to me. The tone, although tone can be difficult to assess online, seems to imply a very judgmental attitude. A person's difficulty controlling a, say, sugar addiction does not necessarily equate to a character defect. Body image is a tricky thing. Everyone has their own way of seeing themselves and others. I congratulate you on having shed 80lbs. But please consider that the same process may involve very different things for others, and not be easy, especially if the struggle has been going on for a long time. And comments using the words "lazy" and "character defect" don't help, and can be very hurtful. It isn't about being politically correct, it's about being considerate. Personally, I think that it's a good thing there are fat ponies. Fat is a thing that young people often have a lot of charge about. Losing weight, being criticized and considered lazy or spineless, or ridiculed for not having a body-type which is the TV norm are all things which a viewing audience of young people (I'm 63, so someone in their 30s is still young to me) could appreciate seeing discussed and handled in a helpful way. I would love to see a show about that. Pinkie Pie eats, uh, like a horse - and she never seems to get fat - except momentarily. (I've known people like that... very annoying!) What if Pinkie Pie went to another town, where ponies didn't know her, and had some huge cake orgy and got her usual temporary fatness, except that this time it doesn't go away. How would other ponies see her? How would she see herself? With no Twilight Sparkle or Celestia nearby to make it go away immediately with magic, she's be in a pickle. What if she believed people who told her she was lazy or of poor character? Poor Pinkie! Suddenly gobbling cupcakes would be a crime - a crime against herself. Our wonderful, bouncing, cupcake-munching Pinkie-Pie would be in a big, fat, world of hurt. ETA. I just saw your latest post, about your dad. I am so sorry that you have to deal with the constant fear and anger that your dad's condition brings to you. That would indeed be a hard thing to witness. I understand why you are so angry about it now. I had a similar experience, watching my parents destroying their lives with alcohol, and putting major dents in mine as well. All I can say is try and find a way to forgive your dad for being who and what he is. When he's gone, you won't be able to give him that. And you will hurt even more, needlessly. Take it from someone who knows. -

Though in a way it pains me to say it, the plushie is fantastic. I only wish Hasbro would do as well with theirs. I would certainly be willing to spend the cash, but the best legal plushies I've seen are the Aurora12" (10"?) ones. I have several. Plus I have 3 4DE on order. Those are all licensed, right?- 4,330 replies

I got my Flutterbat plushie today and was dismayed to find that it's an unlicensed product. You could fill books with what I don't know about licensing, but one thing I do know is that unlicensed products mean someone - maybe more that one someone - is getting ripped off. I thought it was legit, but it turns out it isn't. The tag on it is different from the one in the picture on e-bay. the other side (the inside) of this tag is blank. As a writer, artist and photographer, I am totally sympathetic to those who are getting ripped of by people making knock-offs. I am mortified to have given money to the thieves who made the Flutterbat I bought. Here is a page with info on bogus merch. http://www.mlpmerch.com/2014/05/are-12-inch-mlp-plushies-fake.html I got a heads-up from zombienixon on the Pinkie-bat I posted a picture of earlier in the thread. But I sort of suspected that one from the gate, since there was no Pinkie-bat in the show.- 4,330 replies

Not to worry. Both will have fallout and relapses for some time. Diamond Tiara is basking in the glow of shaking off the tyranny of her mother, but she's still a filly and she won't change completely for some time. She'll have her snotty, unreasonable and selfish moments - count on it. Remember Discord's backsliding? That's the sort of thing that keeps you guessing about "reformed villains."

I want to see Bic Macintosh do Tina Turner. He's got the singing voice and when he's performing he loves to strut! Can you see him doing "What's Love Got to Do with It?" You could do a pony version of this music video - shot for shot - in Manehatten. There's even a sweet little spot for Zecora near the end.

I think it's a mistake to characterize the animators of a show as lazy for not designing scads of different background ponies. Animators don't set the budget, nor do they make creative decisions. When the show netted a wider fan-base the sales of merchandise went up. More distinct characters means more after-market sales of plushies, figures, etc. And the enthusiasm of adult collectors of pony merch made lots of detail in animation and characters lucrative. You can rank out Hasbro all you want. But they created the show to make money. Support the show by buying licensed merchandise and DVDs/ Blu Rays (when they come - and they will) and the show will reflect that support. Hasbro has shown that they are sensitive to the likes and sensibilities of adult fans of MLP FIM. The show is getting better and better. Put your money where your mouth is and that will continue to be the case.
