  1. So I had two drawings kicking around. One of an Arabian mare and one of a hawk. So I got to thinking...
  2. I'm a confirmed Japanophile - have been since I saw the Grand Kabuki in Los Angeles back in the 1970's. I love the Japanese version of the "Smile" song. I found these pretty entertaining... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUnOO8MG_Hk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F95Po5MgnLc
  3. Wolves and all other canids sweat from their foot pads. You can see it when a dog that's been exercising hard walks on cool linoleum - they leave little vaporous footprints that quickly evaporate and vanish. I love the smell of dog feet - especially if they run on grass a lot. It's a sweet-musky smell. My Doberman was the best. She slept on my bed and sometimes I'd wake up with her "franken-feet" near my face. Anyways... Nice drawing. I did a shaggy sort of lion/jay hybrid once. Oh, and dog's and other canids have interdigital scent-glands too. That's why they scratch with their back feet and kick dirt over their pee and poop sometimes. And they have a scent-gland halfway down the dorsal surface of their tails as well.

Digging through some old stuff and found this. Spruced it up on PS. Drew it in 2002. Colored pencil & ink. Uh-oh, I see I posted this in the wrong place... Sorry!
  5. Here's another horsey-looking pony... I really must learn to do vectors...
  6. I have problems with this too - but mostly because I like a more horsey-looking pony. I love the show and it's artwork, but it does veer into "Bambi territory" at times. So my ponies tend to look a bit more like real horses. I will work on creating more show-accurate ponies, but will probably keep doing the other kind too...
  7. It's on my "surfing route." Which is what I do in the morning before I do my blog posts for the day. Why? Because I don't know any Bronies in the area where I live, and it's nice to be able to immerse myself in the culture - get my daily pony fix. And because, for the most part, it's a positive experience. This is one of the only two forums I go to - the other is The Border Collie Boards. And I keep coming back to both because I learn stuff, I have fun, and both boards are well-moderated so I don't have to put up with a bunch of trolls, flamers and just negativity in general.

Niiiiice! Can't wait to see what else you come up with.
  9. I see the "donkey ears," but look again - surround those ears with a regular pony mane and forelock, and suddenly they won't look so big. Truth is, MLP FIM ponies do have big ears. The Funko pony toys have ginormous ears! As for the "bottle leg," it's not that far off. Did you expect perfection on a first try? The muzzle is a bit long, but look at the pony I did yesterday: http://mlpforums.com/topic/123636-new-render-of-foliha/#entry3573008 This pony has big ears too, but I think they don't look as big as yours because they have mane and forelock around them. She has "no bones" in her front legs, her left fore-hoof is too small, her muzzle is long, and not turned up as much as a show-accurate pony. Her eye is a bit small, and I'm sure others will have noticed other flaws. I've been drawing horses for sixty years, but this is my first free-hand shot at an MLP FIM pony. The next one will be better. And so will yours.
  10. It's not awful! Good proportions and you're drawing. Do you know how far ahead of the rest of humanity that puts you?
  11. How about these? It pretty much covers everypony (of the mane 6)
  12. Thanks! and, by the way... Happy Birthday! Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
  13. OK. I finally got a pony that I'm happy with. Not exactly show-accurate, but close enough for me. Pencil sketch, pony without background and pony with photo background. (My photo) About 5 hrs work, hand and PS. YAY! ALL DONE!
  14. It doesn't matter. But it can be fun to think up new words.
  15. HA! This "greymare" is 62. I'll be 63 in a couple of weeks. I don't care much for the term Pegasisters. Where does that leave the Earth Ponies and Unicorns? And why do we need a gender-specific term for female fans? For those who can't accept "Brony" as a gender-neutral term, how about "Po-peeps"? (Pony People) Or if we must have a special term for girls, how about "Wonies"? (Women Ponies) Or, Filly-fans? Personally, I like "Po-peeps."
  16. Aragorn from L.O.T. R. Captain Jack Sparrow
  17. Sound advice from the OP on handling trolls. But what about Bronies who respond in kind? Hateful, foul-mouthed, militant and stupid? I'll answer my own question. Flag them too. As far as I'm concerned, people who are hateful, foul-mouthed, militant and stupid don't deserve to call themselves Bronies - no matter how much they like the show. A troll is a troll, a flamer is a flamer. Doesn't matter which side of the argument they're on. Real Bronies will consider the source and move on. Can you imagine Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Fluttershy or Rarity acting like that? Pinkie Pie would laugh and make them disappear. Twilight Sparkle would read about anger management and psych disorders. Applejack would shrug and get back to work. Rarity would close her eyes, put her nose in the air and leave in a crushing silence. Fluttershy would look for the thorn in the troll's/ flamer's paw. Rainbow Dash would kick the "block," "mute" and "flag" buttons - hard - and then laugh that adorable, cracked laughter of hers.
  18. As someone said, I think it has a lot to do with how you define "spoiled." For me, I'd say yes. For these reasons. 1. How many times have I been in a restaurant with a couple of tables nearby with up to six kids - 12 to 15 - silently twiddling smartphones and saying nothing to each other. Do they even care that they have friends? (Except as someone to compete with, "be seen with," or complain about?) 2. The "i'm bored" scenario. Despite the electronic gadgets (or maybe because of them) most kids mostly don't read, or just chill. There has to be a host of things vying for their attention or they go nuts. I think part of this is due to #3, which is... 3. Parents seem to think kids should have no unscripted/unsupervised time. Every minute of a kid's life takes place in a lesson, a club, managed play-sessions (people are even doing this with their dogs now!) or some other planned/supervised/scripted activity. How on earth can this possibly be to the child's ultimate benefit? How does a kid develop self-reliance and get the chance to make decisions without coaching - let alone learn to entertain themselves. So if distraction is not set before them on a plate with watercress around it they launch into a tantrum, whine incessantly or hide in their room being heavy dopers, cutters or just terminally depressed. 4. Another facet of #3 - no time alone. I have watched kids grow up with the 100% scripted lifestyle, then at 18 they get, "OK, you're an adult now - go deal." How are they supposed to be independent, self reliant adults when nothing has prepared them for that eventuality? So then you get an18-year-old basket-case who either implodes into depression or runs wild and gets into big trouble. 5. When I was a kid I had responsibilities - almost the entire responsibility of keeping our house clean. I got no help with homework and I spent a lot of time alone. I read, drew, painted, hung out with my animals and cruised the neighborhood with my friends. I found stuff to do, and since there were no cell-phones, personal computers, tablets, etc. when I was a kid, I had to get creative. Crime statistics show that there are not many more kidnappings, rapes or other violet crimes now than there were when I was a kid, despite the fear-mongering of Fox News and the like. So why do parents feel it is necessary to hover, script every minute of a kid's life and bribe them with gadgets? No wonder there are so many spoiled kids! And what about the kids that aren't spoiled? There's a lot of them too. But you don't hear so much about them. They deserve more credit. If you are one of them, I salute you! And thanks for not being a PIA!
  19. Rainbow Dash was first for me for a long time. I like her coloring the best. And I'm one (of the few?) who loves her voice. I've heard people complaining about her voice, but it's one of her most endearing qualities to me. Fluttershy was my second favorite because of her connection to animals. At first Pinkie Pie irritated me with her hyper noisy antics, but gradually I began to like her. The parasprite episode clinched it for me. Now Pinkie is best pony for me. And the Smile song is my favorite song ever. My second favorite now is Big Macintosh.
  20. Granny Smith, Applejack without a hat, Big Macintosh without a collar, Spike's adult form, Crackles, Winona, Timber wolves, Maud, Rainbow Power Mane 6.
  21. Crackles the dragon - a brony's best friend... my new favorite non-pony pony stuffie.
