Oh yeah. Take it from one who is a hippie - from the '60's, no less. Fluttershy is letting her freak flag fly. But she would never be a supporter of PETA, because she truly loves animals. See my blog for more about this: http://atpeacewithpink.blogspot.com/2015/02/petas-latest-kill-record.html This is my Fluttershy T, which I got at We Love Fine

That's it! It's precisely why I like watching MLP FIM so much. It puts me in a better place. When I go out in the world I take it with me. And when I come in from the world, sometimes bruised and battered, it helps me get back to a happy place. My friends tease me a little about an old lady who loves ponies, but they also tell me that I seem like a happier and better person. Unhappy people who can't unbend and share their happiness can sometimes be jealous of this "pony-high." They say "Misery loves company." I think that's a big reason people take a negative stance on Bronies. The thing to do is smile and blow it off. If you reflect their negativity back to them it only grows worse. Kill 'em with kindness - at least they'll die happy (for once.)

Though it's possible, maybe probable, that no one would decide to be gay because of the greater acceptance in society nowadays. But it is more than possible that more people will decide to come out as gay in a more accepting society. A similar thing happened with the election of Obama the first time around. I personally know a few people who were to all apperances, shall we say, militant rednecks, who slipped into a voting booth and voted for a black man. These same guys would sit around the local bar and appear to fall in line with their racist drinking buddies. But when push came to shove they voted for the man they thought was best for the job - regardless of color. As Big Boss Foxtrot sez - "People are valuing ideas like friendship, caring, honesty, and acceptance. As a society we need to openly embrace these concepts. What's so wrong with being a compassionate person?" If that sort of thing is becoming more acceptable (We can only hope!) then we will likely see more people who are willing to say, "Hey, that is a pretty good show!," and lighten up on the Brony-bashing. But then, it will also probably make the remaining hold-out die-hard haters even more loud and poisonous because they will be feeling more insecure as they watch their buddies dwindling... Oh heck. I forgot. I wasn't going to post in this thread any more. Oh well...

Wolfie and Leroy are my alter egos... Sometimes they don't get along.

Sorry, though it may get me pitched out of the thread, but I must say there is nothing objective about hatred, whether it's aimed at Bronies, or has a racial or religious base, or any other origin, be it knee-jerk or inculcated. Hatred is always counterproductive, and all to often rebounds on those who hate. Dislike is a different thing. Dislike has reasons, (usually) - it can be objective. But hatred is not objective and has little or no reasoning behind it. Hatred is corrosive to the soul of the hater. The hater sees persecution where none exists. When I first got into MLP FIM I went to You-Tube to see pony stuff. And there was a lot, yes. But the hostile comments were unreal. Now I either don't look at pony vid on You-Tube, or I simply don't read the comment threads. Inserting logic or reason has no effect on the rabid anti pony/Brony types. I had hoped for better on this forum, and I do think it is better here. But this will be my last post on this thread, as it is just going in those same nasty circles. Too bad. It could have been better.

Sorry, don't mean to single out Arctic Monkeys FTW, (Is it OK to ask what FTW means?) But I do read a fair amount of stuff, here and other places that suggests that people who don't think of themselves as Bronies, but like MLP FIM, are disgusted with or irritated by the more "ebullient" sort of Brony. I don't understand why, which is why I'm reading/participating in this thread. Saying that Bronies are jerks, idiots or gay doesn't explain why a given person objects to them - it's just name-calling. So I'm digging. As for the screens in the bowling alley... I don't bowl. Are the screens controlled by the bowlers or the staff of the bowling alley? If there's a feed that allows the screens to show something other than bowling scores, I would think that makes it OK to do so. When watching the video, I would have guessed that people would be more upset about the... what? Lack of decorum? That the Bronies showed. The hugging and acting silly. A lot of people are uncomfortable with that sort of behavior - whether or not it has anything to do with ponies/Bronies. I have seen that a congregation of Bronies can be pretty obstreperous. They feel good and their high spirits tend to be expressed in ways that I, as an aging hippie, see nothing wrong with, but a more mainstream person might find annoying, disturbing, or just rude. I can understand the giddiness that sometimes surfaces when Bronies meet. I can be pretty silly on occasion, myself. The main reason I watch MLP FIM is that it makes me feel good - about myself, the world and life in general. And I admit, there is a sense of wanting to share my good fortune with others. I have never been the target of disapproval or censure from my peer group or the general public, but I suppose my age and sex garners me a fair amount of tolerance/ indulgence. But my overall sense is that non-Bronies feel threatened in some way by the more over-the-top Bronies. And I would like to better understand why.

The same way ignore allegedly grown men shrieking, bellowing and banging the table at my local Chinese restaurant that has a TV with a football game on it. Those guys don't do group hugs and the like - they break things and act hostile. Apparently, they are under the impression that this makes them "real men." Obnoxious is in the eye of the beholder - you can let it annoy you or you can focus on something else. It isn't about you. So many people who get invested in disliking another group, whether it be Bronies or football fans, tend to forget that the behavior they find so aggravating isn't aimed at them. As for running into pony/ Brony stuff everywhere - yes, it's pretty ubiquitous. But so are cloyingly cute sayings attached to pictures of cats and pug-dogs. Do I think people should stop posting that stuff everywhere? No! It makes lots of people happy, and lots more enjoy what they post. Why rain on their parade? Keep clicking - go someplace else. It isn't really that hard to avoid ponies, Bronies, Persian cats, pug-dogs or football. I do a couple of hours casing the Internet and researching things for my blog almost every day. I rarely encounter pony/Brony stuff. I'm much more likely to encounter football, pugs or cats. If you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Brony, then I submit that you need to revise your "surfing" habits. As for encountering Brony shenanigans on an MLP forum, well, if you don't want to run the risk of getting something stinky on your shoes - don't go into the cow pasture!

Interesting... I largely agree as well, but note that the person whose post you responded to did not find it necessary to call anyone an "a-hole." These things matter. Especially with a presence of younger fans here. Not to mention, you can "catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Think about it..."

visual art I Drew a Wolf, Looking For Feedback
Foliha replied to ActualMelon's topic in Non-Pony Art & Creations
Very nice! Color and composition is great. As others have said, overall feel is wonderful. If it were me, I would shorten the left front leg at the wrist. I would shorten it. I would also put less turn under on the paw. It looks unnatural to me. Head could be a bit bigger. And also the forepaws. Wolves have very large feet compared to dogs. It's hard to make them too big. But these are small quibbles. It's a lovely piece! -

I'd go out and feed the animals...

I'm not ignoring Spike. As I said: "Spike is great! Wonderful character. But as a different species from any of the 3 races of ponies, he has different needs (and many the same as well) from the ponies. He is cast as a pet. A very talented and talking pet, who has proved himself quite indispensable to not only Twilight Sparkle but to the Crystal ponies and others. But he is a dragon." I'd just like to see more well-developed male pony characters.

Good proportion, love the ears & toof. Now scan it, print it and color it! I'd love to see the color-scheme you have in mind.

Sorry if I gave that impression. I'm probably the least romantically-inclined person I know. No, I would like to see some male characters with real depth, whether it be in choosing friends, mates, type of work or just deep thinking. Discord is a good example. He has been truly touched by Fluttershy's trust and faith in him. So much so that he continues to struggle with the impulse to chaos that he has. Plus he has a great sense of humor - a little twisted, but hey, that's part of what makes him entertaining. I'd love to hear his backstory... Spike is sweet and has a noble side, but he's pretty predictable. Discord on the other hand, is full of surprises, and there's no hint of "romance" in his character arc. Imagine a male pony with as much dimension as Discord. That would be a real treat. It wouldn't matter if he were a villain or a good guy, as long as he was interesting. It would also be nice if he wasn't the cookie-cutter, big-chested stallion with the "look of eagles." (Or, if he has to look macho-inpressive, how about Hellboy with hooves? Hmmmm. Maybe that's what they were trying for with Sombra.
