S05:E13 - Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?
Foliha replied to Jeric's topic in Season 5 Discussion
I'm a little confused. Some here say that there will be a hiatus starting now, but I've seen a couple of sites, including this one: http://www.sidereel.com/my_little_pony_friendship_is_magic/season-5/episode-14 that say that Episode 14, "Rotten Applejack" airs on July 18. Where does the notion of the hiatus starting now come from? Wearing my "I'm a Princess, are you a Princess too?" T-shirt. FABULOUS EPISODE! ... Oh, well. On the other hand, that gives me more time to watch Game of Thrones, which I just bought. Unlike most people on the planet, I've never seen it. Got the 1st disc on Netflix and was totally taken with it. -

I dunno, it seems to me that Moondancer and Twilight were color-variations of each other for a reason. Twilight is a solipsistic creature, she lives in her own world, and has since she was quite young. Being an "egg-head" as Rainbow Dash would say, often means that the world, with all its drama and emotional frustration, can go by without making much of an impression. While some creatures who are more social will roll their eyes and the egg-head's seeming cluelessness & callousness, the egg-head will often shrug and feel, "What's the big deal?" This was certainly true of Twilight. But having had an intensive course in the concept of friendship, and all that it implies, Twilight is now aware that there is more to life that a fascinating data-set. Minuette and Co. probably grew up with lots of siblings, or just talented parents. They learned not to take other people's drama too seriously. They roll with it. But perhaps Moondancer is a much more sensitive creature. Perhaps she saw Twilight as a sort of role-model. Maybe she had a school-girl crush on her. I that case,Twilight's disinterest in entering into a deep, heartfelt relationship with her could be pretty devastating. Crazier things have happened. Twilight's sudden realization that she grew up without deeply-bonded friendships - at least not on her end - might have been a source of hurt to others. So of course, being Twilly, she goes into an OCD meltdown, and wants to make it right. Spike, the realist, just lets her go and get on with it. (The remark about Minuette's friends maybe not being traumatized was hilarious. Who says there's no humor in this episode?) In the meantime, Moondancer has become a scholarly recluse, just as she perceived Twilight to have been. (If I can't be close to Twilight, I'll become Twilight.) When Twilight reappears, Moondancer tries to keep her at arm's length. After all, she's found a way to be, and she's used to it. Why chance an emotional upheaval and possible 2nd abandonment? But Twilight is in Lancelot mode, and will not be gainsaid. Pursuit and attempts at atonement ensue and eventually Moondancer caves in and wails out her frustration and abandonment issues. What I want to know is how will all this affect Moondancer in the future? We see her playing ball with her friends at the end of the episode. That bodes well, but seems too much of a right-about to be entirely believable. On the other hand, she's still young. Maybe she'll be fine...

It totally does. I watched the Kiara Cutie upload and it had a big, fat AD in the middle of it. I love Twilight in the book. Twilight Twinkle Moondancer with the tape-mended glasses. I kept waiting for Twilight to do a Hermione on them. Pinkie-copter This episode was fabulous, but hard to watch for me. When I turned 21 I reserved 1/3 of a Chinese restaurant fro a party, and ordered a ton of food, sent out invitations to all my friends. Nobody showed. Nobody. I pink-slipped them all and set about making new friends. This was a 4-hankie episode for me.

this wasn't meant to provoke anything but laughter... From my blog: "I'll probably lose readership over this, but, meh... Who cares? Some people think being fat is a crime. I'd say that was their problem. I've been called a whale, the Goodyear Geonni, and of course, a pig. I say, consider the source. But I'm not a whale, and I'm certainly not a lighter-than-air craft. I'm not a pig. (If you go by one line of reasoning, I'm not a pig, a chicken, or any other sort of poultry. Because I don't eat any of those.) No, I'm a horse! (Well, actually, a unicorn) Seeing is believing. My upstairs neighbor took this picture today when I got the rubber horse feet in the mail. Figured they'd be good for a giggle sometime. When she downloaded the picture we laughed hysterically for ten minutes. I haven't laughed that hard for months. On the theory that laughter is good for the soul, I thought I'd share the wealth. Sorry if there's coffee all over your keyboard now..."

"Oh Well" - Fleetwood Mac "I can't help it 'bout the shape I'm in, I can't sing, I ain't pretty an' mah legs are thin. But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to. Oh, well..." I put the words 'cause most of you are too young to remember this.

Perhaps they came from the town where the ponies surrendered their cutie marks - before the mane 6 came and liberated the cutie marks. Maybe there a lots of them roaming about Equestria. I think someone may have mentioned this already - or something like it. But it kinda seems to me that there's a tacit agreement among "they who create the pony show" to suspend normal physics and logic in a Pinkie Pie episode. It's a romp. It's totally 'toon physics and timelines. Things don't have to make sense - they just have to be funny. For linear thinkers this will be hard to take. But it opens up some fun options. Battleships can fall from a clear sky. Bugs Bunny can have a lit stick of dynamite in his pocket which blasts his nemesis's facial features off - but only for a minute. Or Ringo can pick up a hole in the Sea of Holes, put it in his pocket and say, "I've got a hole in me pocket. If things making real-world, real-time sense is important to a person, then they may not find this sort of thing funny. But I personally - being a veteran of Owsley and windowpane - lots of Owsley and windowpane - have no problem with this. In fact, I find it hilarious.

Here is a webpage that has some good info and links. http://www.webmd.com/anxiety-panic/guide/mental-health-social-anxiety-disorder I think it's important to understand that it's not your fault that you have this difficulty, and there are many other people in the same boat. I came down with severe panic disorder in 1980, and it's still a problem for me, but not on a scale that it was for the first ten years or so. The first 5 years I was housebound. The bad news is, you will always experience anxiety in some situations, the good news is, this is normal. Everybody does. And you can learn coping skills that will enable you to deal with these situations, so you can have contact with others and not be miserable the whole time. One thing - avoid people who tell you things that begin with, "You just need to..." There are plenty of people out there who just need to "pull up their socks" and get on with it. From what you've described you aren't one of them. You will need help and maybe meds. But you can begin working toward feeling more comfortable and confident. The next time you see you regular doctor, ask him if there is a support group that you could get into until you are able to get one on one counseling/therapy. Exercise helps. If going out is hard because of the anxiety of running into people, walk in areas that are pretty empty. Perhaps at night. I find that taking a camera helps too. When I get involved in taking pictures, it takes my mind out of that self-perpetuating anxiety loop. Some days it works better than others... But it always helps. I also take my dog. She doesn't care how or even if I talk. =) One more thing... I know this will sound new-agey and silly, but it really isn't. Smile. As much as you can. There has been research that shows that the act of smiling actually causes chemical changes in your brain that improve your state of mind. Even if you don't feel happy about smiling. Hang in there. You can feel better and more in control.

I just want to see Spike start growing up. I know dragons live a long time, but sheesh. When will his wings start to sprout? Or his fangs? Even Crackles had wings - albeit, they were about the size - proportionately - of Bulk Biceps's. When are we going to find out why he was an orphan? He has to do more about coming to terms with his dragon-ness, and that alone would be worth a few episodes. He's not a pony, and never will be, so... Couldn't Celestia arrange for him to be mentored by some dragon ambassador or something?

I just wish Spike's character arc was more apparent - (existent?) I liked Dragon Quest, (especially Crackles!) and hoped Spike might start to mature. I think we need a Spike episode where we find out why his egg ended up in pony hooves - maybe tie it in with the stealing of the Phoenix egg - and let Spike grow up a little. Loved the "Put the hay in the apple and eat the candle." The Fargo reference was fun, and the bird sequence was amusing. Didn't think much of the statue. Partly because the episode was at pains to be sure you were aware of the Griffon contingency, so wouldn't the statue need to reflect that?

I've had panic disorder since 1980. And I have to say, being brought up in a dysfunctional alcoholic family, I don't much like people. I know that there are likeable people out there - lots of them here - but because of my weird upbringing I have poor facial recognition and social skills. I don't go out much, don't drive and don't like crowds. Panic attacks on buses, etc. Do you like animals? Dogs? Cats? A good job for you might be dog-walker. Very little interaction between you and the owners - after all, they need you because they can't be there. Maybe it's too soon for you. How are you on the phone? Can you call for take-away? Do you have phone conversations of any kind? The phone is good because you can always hang up. If you let the people you talk to know that you may have to hang up without notice, and that it's not about them, you may feel less stressed - you can stop the interaction in a heartbeat, no hard feelings. I'd offer to talk to you on the phone, but I'm afraid it would be too expensive for you. I'm in California. Any other Bronies in Northern Ireland? Once you establish some degree of trust on the phone, you might try a meetup. Someplace close to home so you can bail if you need to. What cities are you close to? Belfast? Dublin? Bound to be some Bronies there. Are your parents/family sympathetic, or do they give you a bad time about it? Feel free to PM me if you want to talk. I'm willing to try to help if I can. Cheers!

I think Cranky is different than he used to be. Yeah, he's still cranky, but it's more like that's just his personality habit. I think he really feels good about Ponyville and the ponies now, and I think he's definitely an integrated member of the community. I also think Ponyville is a lot smaller than 12,000 ponies. More like 1,200 (maximum). I've lived in the country - miles from anybody, a couple of towns of less than a thousand, and Los Angeles, for 20 years (Hollywood, Echo Park, & Silverlake) and they are definitely different paradigms. In a truly small town every body knows everybody - often more than is entirely comfortable - but it seems to be the "pony way." They are a close-knit community. Remember Raritie's "Manehattan" song? In a small kingdom - Equestria - the rulers use big social events to make appearances that bond them with their subjects. And of course, the Princesses would have been invited by Pinkie Pie. Cranky's wedding would be a logical time for them to turn up. Noblesse oblige, if you will. The whole town will be there, so they can "kiss a lot of babies" and stand around looking regal. As for Gummy - I never meant that he himself was paralyzed or a quadraplegic. But he's an alligator. Have you ever been around alligators? Talk about low-affect. Unless they're snatching a dead chicken out of your hands, they are kind of like a bunch of rocks. (ETA. Hey! Maybe that's why Pinkie Pie has a pet Alligator. He sits around like a rock most of the time, and she grew up on a rock farm!) They just sit there. But who knows what's going on inside of their craniums? That's why Gummy's existential musings were so funny. Gummy didn't bake a cake, but who's to say why? He could have been lost in quantum physics or just unmotivated. Or maybe the reason alligators just sit around gazing off into space so much of the time is because they don't experience the passage of time the way ponies do. To Gummy, it might seem like Pinkie was gone for the blink of an eye. Or maybe their synapses don't fire unless they are activated by fast motion in front of their face. Like waving a dead chicken at them. They're like, sit. sit. sit. SNAP! sit. sit. sit. sit.

Right on. I think what it means to me is that we are way past the whole thing of "This is a show for little girls, and a few marginal types with self-image issues." We are on the table with this as a show for everybody who loves it, and we hear you, fandom, Bronies, and let's do this! Come on in, little girls, come on in, adults who appreciate good animation, good writing and good fun, and let's party! It's now acknowledged beyond a shadow of a doubt that the fandom affects the show, just as the show affects the fandom. It's a symbiosis, and I for one see that as a good thing.

Methinks the Brony, oops, community member doth protest too much... What are you afraid of/ offended by? Bronies (mostly) have lives outside of MLP FIM. We don't shut down like C3PO when we aren't doing pony stuff. Relax... You have a pony persona (see avatar pic on your posts.) You like the show. (or not, as in the case of this ep.) You come here and engage in discussion. But you get a tad huffy if someone calls you a Brony. Brony, Brony, Brony! There. Are you diminished in any way? Heck. I'm a 63-year-old lady and I'm definitely a Brony. I don't care much for the term "Pegasister," but hay! It's all good. Call me a Pegasister. I'm here, I'm female. It fits... "Community Member Envy" sounds so tedious. Plus it's a pain to type. And people won't know what CME stands for. You're among friends. Smile. Be happy.

You've never lived in a small town, have you.... Cranky is friends with Pinkie Pie, ergo, everyone knows him. =) A quadriplegic can have deep existential thoughts, but would be incapable of baking a cake. Or maybe Gummy was deep in a philosophical reverie when Pinkie went out, and the time just slipped by as he crouched there parsing some obscure conundrum.
