Cant a girl game in peace? [Rant]
Seraph commented on Jest (Inactive)'s blog entry in Can't a girl game in peace?
I understand your frustration about all of this, honestly it's why I stopped using voice chat in a lot of online games because that usually was what got me the worst of it. I used to just not share my gender at all because it just made things easier and I wouldn't have to expect any differences in behavior because of it. In Real Life, most of my friends are guys and we'd play games together and we just treated each other about the same. Online though, I've found people will be jerks just to be jerks because they don't have to look at the person they're yelling at. There's a dissonance to it that's honestly quite concerning. A lot of the conflicts that go on about games that just so happen to involve women, makes things even more difficult for us because we are expected to take some sort of side or take a stance and then get labelled as something even if we don't agree with it. It's just a big cluster of complications at the moment. From one gamer to another, I guess all I can say is, I understand how you feel, if you ever need to vent your frustrations you can PM me here. -

Listening to them helps me write and oddly enough watching them helps prepare me for recording. I think it sets my mind at ease and in a critical state that allows me to read my scripts relatively easily. -
gaming Have you ever played a Pokemon game with just ONE Pokemon TYPE?
Seraph replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Media Discussion
When it comes to single type runs, I did a mono normal type run and a King and Queen run which is a run with just Nidoqueen and Nidoking. The normal type run was a lot of fun since it lead to some fun combinations, I did it on a rom though rather than a cartridge since it made it a lot easier to obtain the Pokemon I wanted. My team was Ursaring, Granbull, Kangaskhan, Clefable, Staraptor (Normal/flying so it counts) and Girafarig. I had others I switched in and out that were also normal types like Stantler but it worked out very well I think. The game I ran through was Pearl version. I did the Nidoqueen and Nidoking run with a fire red version, those two became some of my favorites after that. -
In no particular order: Time of Eve Sailor Moon Revolutionary Girl Utena Berserk Shin Sekai Yori Those are my top five at the moment, the only one consistently being there is Sailor Moon for various reasons. I could have switched out a few of those and I'm still watching some classic anime right now so those may change at some point.

I watched this episode on my break and I was very delighted with what I saw. This sort of well-executed Slice of Life episode was a very good break episode to watch, especially considering I was writing an entire piece about death. This episode did brighten up my day considerably. I liked the interactions between all characters, the setting really came alive for me and I was glad we were able to see even more of city. I don't have that much to say on the episode that hasn't already been said. I'm not usually a big Pinkie Pie person, but I find the episodes where she bounces off ponies like Rarity or Applejack tend to work better for me that is. I hope the season continues to be this much fun or at least do this well with character interaction.

movies/tv Thread for lovers of documentaries.
Seraph replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in Media Discussion
I must warn all of you there are some bad documentaries on Netflix about Dinosaurs, two of which use the exact same CGI animations to convey their point, just dub over different points. I don't remember what they're called but I'll let you know when I remember. Oh has anyone seen a good crime documentary as of late? Any recommendations? -
movies/tv Thread for lovers of documentaries.
Seraph replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in Media Discussion
I have a strong love for Documentaries myself and I always check Netlflix or Youtube (there's a lot of them on there) for any new ones. I personally enjoy ones about Nature, Space, History and Certain biographical ones, depending on the subject matter. I actually didn't expect to find a documentary thread on any of the forums I lurked upon, glad to see this. -
gaming Nintendo Fired Alison Rapp Allegedly over "GamerGate"

Thank you for steering this thread back on track and linking that article. Kotaku did a good job this time. Just view the link through a proxy that way you won't give them any hits. -
gaming Nintendo Fired Alison Rapp Allegedly over "GamerGate"
Seraph replied to a topic in Media Discussion
Well, see if Nintendo knew of her actions in the past and knew that she’d probably say something, it would have been in their best interest to release a statement upon her termination. Miss Rapp has been in the public eye for quite some time now, and firing her without a word in light of the infamous #firealissonrapp thing that was trending on twitter was just poor planning on their part. Then there’s the #optorrentialdownpour which was a mixture of the censorship controversy as well as this incident. I wasn’t joking when I said some people consider her firing as some sort of victory for a crusade. Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t say that they had to justify it, but in the light of controversy companies have to bite the bullet and make a statement as PR-friendly as possible. Now, I don’t think that Rapp should have tried to “spin”(A PR tactic interestingly enough) the story in her favor, and she should have just said why from the very beginning. It would have at least improved her public image over all, unless she’s the type that doesn’t care for that like you mentioned. I’m unsure if it’s a matter of vanity however, rather a matter of self-preservation. Trying to keep herself sane while from her perspective, all sides bore down upon her like a pack of angry animals. It was definitely a big part of why she was harassed. The fact that they went and dug it up from her college, using that as ammunition against her is I think part of the big reason why she feels so attacked. She took a risk with the paper, yes. Again, I question the adviser on this one, on what they were thinking by letting her do that paper in the first place, or what she was thinking for that matter. I will say that a lot of her harassment originated not only from that but on an article on a neo-Nazi news site, The Daily Stormer, one of the first comments is about getting her fired. Also, there are various 4chan threads about this whole thing as well. Just look through the archives for five minutes. Well, in the case of young man from the Polygon article, his was less of a PR nightmare and more of him discussing how translation works and how Nintendo wouldn’t bring certain games over. From what I can tell, and his case being the vaguer of the two, Nintendo just didn’t like him speaking as if he knew what the company was planning on porting over, and that they didn’t authorize talking about that on a podcast. Basically, his was more in business bureaucracy rather that “I am the worst possible person for PR ever.” Also great post! -
gaming Nintendo Fired Alison Rapp Allegedly over "GamerGate"
Seraph replied to a topic in Media Discussion
I don't think her being let go by Nintendo has anything to do with the masses calling for her head. There will be some saying it is so they can claim it as another victory for this grand crusade that's going on, but I don't think it had anything to do with it. A lot of this has to do with unfortunate timing on Nintendo's part, and their lack of statement released with the termination itself is a poor decision on their part. Sure they did it afterwards, but it would have benefited them much more to release it during it. An unfortunate pattern with game companies as of late. I fully think that it has everything to do with how she handled herself as a person, her moonlighting and how much of a PR nightmare she must have been. Nintendo puts off a certain image as a company, and Miss Rapp did not fit in that image in the slightest. To be frank, I'm surprised they hired her in the first place all things considered; did she not have a Twitter back when she was hired, or a Facebook? I'm employed by the Catholic Church in my area as a substitute teacher and they went through all of my social media, including my articles. The same thing happened when my SO was employed by a grocery store of all things, they went through not only his, but mine as well since we're together. As big a corporation as Nintendo is, it's surprising that this didn't happen sooner. This isn't the case of a square peg going into a round hole; this is a case of a sledgehammer trying to lightly hammer down a 9 inch nail. There was no way she could have lasted. Now, allow me to speak of her paper itself because after reading it I think this needs to be stated: academically speaking, it is sound and by that I mean she did her research, structured her paper well, and did an overall good job with the paper itself. You can quickly see why it was published upon reading it and it's very clear that she worked extremely hard on it. It does beg the question on who approved the paper because typically advisers will steer you away from papers that might ruin your reputation as an academic, and that paper is definitely one of them due to the moral implications of it. No matter what, once you write and publish a paper, people will know you for that work and make assumptions about who you are as a person due to the work. I disagree with her paper wholeheartedly particularly the subject matter, but I did give it a good read in order to respect her work. Ethics-wise of course, I find her actions with her tweets about the subject of her paper to be rather deplorable. It does paint a rather troublesome picture of her character, one that I can see Nintendo not wanting to associate with their company in addition to her already history with moonlighting. She works in PR as well and she should know all about putting out a good image when you work at a company like Nintendo. I understand her wanting freedom of expression, but if Nintendo wants her to have a certain image about her, she should follow that when it comes to dress code and the like. Also as someone that's in PR, she shouldn't have the power to remove anything from the game since she was Public Relations, but even if she was in support of it, she had to be. PR has to make their company look good, that's their job. If you don't do that, you're not doing your job as a PR agent. There was after all some fellow who just appeared on a Podcast and was fired by Nintendo. Nintendo is a company from what I can tell is very difficult to work for because they are very image based more so than almost any other developer or publisher out there. I’m probably repeating things already said in the thread but I just wanted to give my ten cents on all of it. -
I'm reading or rereading in some cases Memories, Dreams and Reflections by C.G. Jung, Ethics of Ambiguity by Simone de Beauvoir and Through the Wolf's Eyes by Jane Lindskold.

My friend wouldn't have to hide his face from the internet after his picture has been used as the face of "Bronydom". He can't use any actual pictures of himself on facebook without getting made fun of. Also I suppose the show would be similar, there just wouldn't be as much referential humor and certain aspects of the fandom wouldn't exist.

Has anyone here taken one of those "What sort of Nen user are you?" quizzes? I apparently end up as a specialist but I'm not sure what sort of powers I'd have.

Well ,the creator, Yoshiihiro Togashi took the huge Hiatus due to his chest pain and was reportedly very ill according to certain reports floating around. He was also spending time with his wife, Naoko Takeuchi (The creator of Sailor Moon) and his children. I'm going to try to keep up with the manga, but it's now on my very long list of "Manga I need to keep up with."

gaming Good PC game with a female protagonist?
Seraph replied to cider float's topic in Media Discussion
Beyond Good and Evil Portal 1 and 2 Oxenfree Life Is Strange Transistor Dragon Fin Soup Jotun Beyond Eyes Skyborn The Amber Throne Millennium- A New Hope Never Alone Tomb Raider (Remake and The Original Trilogy.) That's just to name a few and I can elaborate on any of them if need be. They're quite a few PC games that have a female protagonist, which is in large part thanks to the Independent Games developers having a lot more freedom to do what they want rather than being forced to develop for certain demographics. Not to say that they don't use the demographics to their advantage that's basic marketing, but they just don't have to make a game set up by studio mandates. -
spoiler Season 6 Opener wasn't good. Worse than Season 4's
Seraph replied to TheMarkz0ne's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I wasn't the biggest fan of the opener but I think for me it had more to do with just how they executed things. It just seemed like a rush to introduce multiple character elements and development all in the season opener. I understand that they're establishing elements that will play a role later in the series but I think it would have been better to space all of it out more, have the opener focus on the baby and have a second episode focus on Glimmer and Sunburst. Or they could have had the first episode focus on those two and had the Mane 6 helping out as well. I think they should have given those two a separate episode and it would have worked better rather than intermingling their story with the baby's story. Though, I may be thinking in a more literary way rather than television, it's been a while since I've read my television textbooks. As for the new gremlin, I'm hoping they'll expand upon her more and make her seem like more than just a baby that was born with powers. I'm hoping for a magical age up in the same vein as Maya from The 4400, except maybe without the same results. -

Seraph replied to Seraph's topic in Non-Pony Art & Creations
Thank you so much. I did an essay on it and it was one of my works mentioned and cited in my Bachelors Thesis. Been a fan of it for a while now. Well, considering that's one of the only ways to get on steam if your an indie developer you'd be right on that. Then again, most of my Best list that I'm working on was approved through Greenlight as well, so you win some you lose some. It's a broken system but hey we've gotten some good games from it.- 11 replies

Seraph replied to Seraph's topic in Non-Pony Art & Creations
That's great, and I'm fine with that it's really the thought behind the sub counts. I'll try to make videos that'll hopefully make you laugh, feel or think whenever you look in your sub box. I had no idea I sounded like Felicity Smoak from Arrow, hadn't even noticed that. Our voices are in a similar register with mine being on the lower side. I just try to make sure everyone can hear what I'm saying and I'm not mumbling. I had reviewed most of the games prior to the list so I was able to think about which points I should cover and which I should leave out. I know exactly what game you're talking about, Armake21 an older youtuber reviewed that game a long time ago back in the early 2000s and I remember watching the exact plot that you're talking about unfold. Thank you so much for the watch and I hope I can entertain you in the future. (Also, nice Amber Spyglass Quote, love the "His Dark Materials" trilogy)- 11 replies

I could have talked about The Last Dogma the entire video but I decided against it. I'm glad you liked the commentary, I'm also glad I made you laugh. I actually didn't expect many people would find the video funny, so this makes me happy. If I may ask, which parts made you laugh?- 11 replies

There's a few point and click games as well as RPGs on the list so those might work, we shall see though. Well the day is still young, I expect to get more feedback from this forum at some point.- 11 replies
