I feel like a lot of people overlook how weird a character Starlight Glimmer is compared to the rest of the My Little Pony cast. All the other main characters are flawed but generally wholesome, and then there's this sketchy former cult leader who still has a slightly off moral code. I mean, that's why I like her, at least.

Well truth be told people(me specifically) are just basing some judgement through your text. And you feel like a bro when i read your measages. Maybe thats what others think aswell...but now i evolved and continually check any persons profile for gender to avoid awkwardness..... But awkwardness is a branch or family of stupidness... But i love being stupid though..hmmm

@AlexanderThrond Darn tootin’.

People really do care about whether or not Twilight would be a good ruler of Equestria, huh.

@Dawn-Sunlight Why would Celestia and Luna still be there?
-
Because this is theoretically if everything went according to Cozy's plan in School Raze, and she had no plans for getting rid of them, besides, Cozy only goes after somepony if they are doing something that gets in her way. Until Celestia and Luna start to get suspicious, I think they're fine.
Besides, even if they aren't there, Cozy will find some way to make that into more friendship for herself and she'll still unite Equestria in friendship.
-
@Dawn-Sunlight Ohh okay, I was going with her season 9 scheme rather than the season 8 one. But I think Cozy would come up with some kind of scheme to get rid of the princesses eventually, and her "friendship" would be some twisted parody of it.
-
"School Daze" - Have many issues with the school concept, and some of the students are a little annoying, but I loved this. Just super charming, with a really great anti-racism, anti-authority message. Perhaps a tiny bit timely. I love how it's woven into the story in a way which isn't subtle, but doesn't need to be spelled out in a friendship letter, and doesn't warp the entire world around it either. Doesn't quite dig as deep into characters as the show's best episodes do, but the songs are great, and this is able to depict Twilight's teacher role in a way which feels sincere and personal to her. Lovely.

I honestly don't know what differentiates a funny asshole from an annoying asshole to me; Gallus had his moments, but didn't hit the sweet spot for me that Zephyr Breeze continues to in the Equestria Girls shorts. Wasn't quite sold on the dragon either, and the hippogriff acts a lot like the one from the movie, which is to say that she annoyed me a lot.
-
Maybe, I'll like Gallus with time but I'm not a very big fan of jerky characters.

I'm starting to worry that the Lightning Dust reformation I keep waiting for isn't going to happen.

@Lambdadelta Reformations are good tho
-
@AlexanderThrond Reformations are sweets, eat too much sweets you will get diabetes unless you have insulin.
We need a balance meal...
-
@Lambdadelta I’m pretty sure reformations are the nutritious part of the meal.

The character models from My Little Pony: The Movie look nice, but I just can’t get used to them.

@Captain Clark God, I don't know what they did to the buildings. They all look like shiny plastic. And that pirate ship, blargh. I rather dug the undersea visuals, at least.
When I focus enough, the "floating overtop backgrounds" thing is sort of the case with the show as well, but this movie's attempts at depth-of-field and frequent use of hideous 3D objects (I'm not saying CG because the 2D stuff is drawn on a computer as well) make it stand out a lot more.
-
Been a while since I've looked at the movie, so I don't quite remember what I thought of the backgrounds. But the character models always looked weird. I guess the word would be "squishy"? I remembered seeing Pinkie Pie falling from the first trailer, and the change in her expression seemed unnatural and... "forced"? It's more notable when the ponies are shown from the front and their snouts seemed so blocky when comparing them to their show models.
-
@Number62 Yeah, I dunno. I figure they changed the character geometry to give a greater sense of depth perception, but I kinda wish they had figured out something different. I've heard hand-drawn animation is said to "squish," which is why it's so beloved among animation enthusiasts, but in this movie it doesn't always look right. As I've mentioned, though, I can't quite get behind them in still shots either, and I can't think of a good reason why that is.
-
So does anyone else really wanna learn more about Princess Cadance's backstory, or is that just me?
- Show previous comments 5 more
-
@Number62 I think I saw one of the writers acknowledge that backstory once, but I don't remember whom.
-
@Number62 There are few things I want more than that.
-
So season 8 is apparently gonna be "My Little Pony in the Trump Era." Gonna be interesting to see how the "keep politics out of it" people will react to that.

@A.V. Is it really a diss? If I understand correctly, it's not like she holds any position in government at the moment.
-
Americans complaining about other countries having different schedules for My Little Pony seems kinda silly to me - why is your schedule the one that everyone needs to conform to?
- Show previous comments 4 more
-
Well, there is a plan for how the show is released so other tv networks in different straying from that is bitch because people who really care about the show don't want the show ruined for them. It's not necessarily "because it's america this is the schedule you must follow," it's because it is the planned schedule regardless of the country.
-
@Misscellanio I was under the impression that it was the networks which decided when to air specific episodes.
-
"Fake It Till You Make It" - Lingers for long stretches on kinda weak jokes, and then just goes entirely forced and nonsensical halfway through. Some cute moments, but ugh.

The part with Fluttershy becoming mean reminded me of the "Rocko's Modern Life" episode
"Power Trip" where good-natured Rocko becomes a jerk after something happens at his job.
-
@Sparklefan1234 I thought each persona was funny in its own way, but only for a few seconds.
I have not seen "Rocko's Modern Life."
-
"Secrets and Pies" - Probably one of the dumbest things this show has ever done, and the sheer extent to which this is based on poor communication feels out-of-place in season 7. That said, this is also absolutely hilarious, and while it's a bit loud for my taste, basically every single joke lands. Plus, there's a nice moral and a bit of emotional context which makes the character immaturity a little easier to swallow. Feels a bit off in tone for the show, but when it's this fun, who cares?

@The Artist Formerly Known As A.V. I got a real kick out of Pinkie blowing that bubble pipe.
-
@AlexanderThrond And in Pinkie's "flashback," Dash went practically Skeletor over those pies.
-
Predicted score: 65/100. Probably gonna join my mental canon of guilty pleasure episodes.
@The Artist Formerly Known As A.V. The second I saw we were going into Pinkie's imagination, I nearly applauded.
-
Now the rest of you get to experience case study 5 in Rarijack episodes almost always sucking. If it's a RariJack episode, my expectations are halved. Keep hoping for the show to prove me wrong, but it almost never does.

@AlexanderThrond They're from two different worlds. Their differences are why I love their pairing.
Except for "Simple Ways" aka the episode that ruined Rarity's "good episode streak", IMO.
-
I just don't find it entertaining to watch the two constantly expressing disgust at each other's tastes and habits. I wish they had even the slightest bit of common ground, or at least indicated they had some respect for each other's preferences and habits. "Honest Apple," which is what I was complaining about in this status update, was in the seventh season. They have been friends for years, and yet we only ever see them bring the worst out of each other.
-
The more I think about "Every Little Thing She Does," the more I realise that I find it really kinda disturbing in a way it probably didn't intend.

S' a good point. I'd say that the whole "So long as you understand you made a mistake and apologize, you're ok" philosophy of the show has led to a fair number of complaints in the past. Don't agree with all of them, and I understand why the show does what it does, but I think it does limit the show in scope somewhat.
-
All of the mane six's siblings except Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom have discussed their love life at one time or another.
Limestone Pie has suspiciously denied being jealous of Maud's boyfriend.
Spike, Marble Pie, and Zephyr Breeze have all expressed interest in someone specific.
Maud Pie, Shining Armour, and Big Macintosh are all in happy relationships.
By contrast, of the mane six, only Rarity and Twilight have expressed romantic interest in anyone.

@CypherHoof - I’m not entirely sure what your point is. I’m not claiming they’re in a relationship.
-
I'm not really digging all of these Equestria Girls shorts about social media. Maybe if they built up these characters' online habits I'd like them more, but as is they feel kinda bland to me. Doesn't feel like this season has the same momentum as the first one.

-
@Them's Seeing Ponies It kinda seems like they’re trying to make something relatable to the kids instead of trying to make something funny, which makes me think the writers don’t understand how kids use social media. Someone who gets it would be able to do both.
@Kiryu-Chan Which villain is this?
There are some social media-related ones I like and some lower-tech ones I don’t, but generally I find that to be the case as well.
-
@Kiryu-Chan I thought the commentary on social media was pretty weak there as well, but I liked Vignette because she was supposed to come across as vapid.
-
I really need to stop reading these forums so much and enjoy My Little Pony in peace.
Definitely open to talking about how great this season has been, though.

@Sparklefan1234 - I'm unfortunately not quite at that point, but it's still on track to be one of my favourite seasons.
@Number62 - I'm just saying that I wouldn't think about it so much if I didn't read the forums so often. It can be a bit of a buzzkill sometimes.
I'll be like, "Wow, My Little Pony was once again very good this week! I wonder what fun observations people have!" and then it turns out not many people share my enthusiasm on here.
-
Y'all were way too harsh towards season 6.

-
@Lambdadelta Most of those are reasons I like season 6. Better than S5 for sure.
-
@AlexanderThrond Season 6 is my 4th favorite season (it used to be my 3rd until season 7 came). The only thing that ruined my enjoyment of season 6 is Starlight controversy and some "the end of the show" neighsayers, too much negativity made me uncomfortable.
-
@Lambdadelta I was pretty comfortable having a minority opinion that season, because I was having a lot of fun with the show itself. Probably my third favourite season after the first two.
-
Wow, those next three MLP episodes have premises as uninteresting as this first half's premises were interesting.
-
For all my complaints, I must admit a strong degree of affection for how great season 7 has been to Twilight. Almost every single appearance she's had has been phenomenal, and she's actually allowed to be a person again rather than the flattened shell of herself she had become in seasons 4-6. It's just so exciting to like my favourite character again!

-
@Sylveon There are other people giving negative feedback to season 7?
-
I guess I can see how season 1 has gotten a weirdly negative reputation here if half of this forum's users want the show to be serious and action-packed. Because as we all know, a kids' show about pastel-coloured ponies and friendship should be like Dragon Ball Z.

Right now, I dont think every finale should be Cutie Remark but i am glad that i watched a finale like Cutie Remark to see how far the show can take, at that time, it was my best finale.
If not for Discord and the battle scene, Twilight Kingdom is really tasteless, whenever i rewatch that episode, i always skip to Discord parts and the battle scene.
The best finale of all time is Canterlot Wedding, you got everything you want from that finale.
-
@Lambdadelta I always find the first half of "A Canterlot Wedding" just kinda annoying, and the reason seems to change each time. On my latest watch, I just didn't like Twilight in it very much.
"Twilight's Kingdom" is all about how much Twilight's friends mean to her, and how lost she feels without them. I like it a lot as sort of a reaffirmation of everything the show stands for, and it's one of like three times in the past four seasons where I really sympathised with Twilight, but most of it isn't all that much fun now that the novelty's worn off, and I don't really care about Twilight's role as an alicorn.
"The Cutie Re-Mark" never had a lot of novelty, and I'm honestly not super impressed by its dark imagery. Still, it has its moments.
-
Finally catching up on those Equestria Girls chose-your-ending shorts, and I'm astonished how the same series which produced junk like "Mirror Magic" could turn around and suddenly become this consistently wonderful (excluding "Opening Night" and "Text Support.") I love the combination of the mundane and the whimsical - these characters use their powers to help their everyday lives, and nobody thinks everything of it. And these things keep finding new angles for the characters, too. These ones even have a continuous story arc, which is something the show itself has never quite pulled off. Sure, they're not emotionally substantial, but they're kinda delightful. It kinda makes me wonder how they're gonna translate their formula to a full hour-long special.
Also: That "Rarity Investigate - The Case of the Bedazzled Boot"? On its own terms, maybe the best thing Equestria Girls has ever done.
-
Did Rarity make RD’s Daring Do cosplay for her?
Also, I’m pretty sure AJ is the only if the mane six who’s yet to reveal her dork side. It’s only a matter of time, though.
Also also: Equestria Girls comic-con short when?
-
Did not enjoy "Fame & Misfortune." The last thing we needed was another episode where the conflict is driven by characters being unsympathetic and annoying. Also, am I wrong, or was this actively insulting the fanbase?

@Macavity Wilko @Hierok You know, I actually understand that notion very well, but I just don't care much for how it was pulled off here, and the lack of respectful adults, the emphasis on specific criticisms, and the lack of subtlety made it feel kinda unfair to me in places. Mostly I just found it unfun though.

Joshscorcher's video on "Newbie Dash" was pretty cathartic after so many people called it one of the show's worst episodes. It's really not that bad!
