    Jedburgh Abbey - repeatedly attacked (with cannon fire[!]) by the English, finally abandoned at the dissolution of the monasteries.

    Still baking hot. Really getting on everyone's nerves now. Just returned from a short abortive excursion into Scottish Borders in search of cooler climate, not much, and quite a bit of rain. But not very different. To be fair looks like might be cooling down next week or so. Boston, Lincolnshire UK.

    Neon Rain by James Lee Burke. Detective drama. 1987. If this was a film would probably look like something Steven Seagal would be in. Quite funny tho in places. Example: "We tell the captain about it first, then we go to his house and flip his necktie in his face." - "Nope. Too soon." - "Bullshit. The only way to handle these guys is to jump up and down on their nuts."

    Got a few on the go, just finished Discworld #19, Feet Of Clay, next up #20 Hogfather. Also on the next-up pile: Inverted World (Christopher Priest); All The Gear, No Idea (Michele Harrison); The Preserving Machine and other stories (Philip K. Dick); The Seed Of Earth (Robert Silverberg); Hothouse (Brian Aldiss). I'm also discovering and getting into Kathy Reichs Also just recently did Sleepyhead by Mark Billingham, that was good, need to follow him up. The last two books (incl. Kathy Reichs) I found in a 2nd book shop in Beaumaris Anglesey, end of June.

    Has cooled down a bit late afternoon and this evening, which is very welcome. As is the light breeze. This after being 28 celcius again today. Meant I could turn my fan off so nice and quiet now. (Had it going in my bedroom all last night.) Thunderstorms promised for Friday. No half measures! Boston, Lincs., UK.

    I got the complete set of the Conan books now, the first ones I bought back in the 1970's. Yes they were not published in chronological order, I now have them numbered in the sequence of Conan's actual history, as it were.

    Brain fryingly stupidly hot - by midday today, >27 Celcius in my lounge. Looking at the forecast ahead, will continue for all next week at least. Really getting on my and other peoples' nerves now. Seriously thinking of doing a camping trip to Scotland, pretty good chance will be cooler up there. Especially at nights, so may be able to sleep better. (?) Still, on the bright side, haven't had to endure the torture of trying to mow the grass in the hot sun, cos it's dead...

    Cheese & 'savoury(?)' sandwiches. One was bought from a gas station, the other I made, with a bit of 'tired' salad added. But managed to avoid eating crisps (potato chips) with them this time.

    We're still having a heatwave. Most of our grass is brown or yellow and dying. Have just travelled back home from Cheshire, same everywhere. Have seen many farmers' fields with the big reel hose machines spraying their crops with water. Boston, Lincolnshire UK.

    Lincolnshire poacher and sweet tomato chutney cheese sandwich, with some green salad leaves of some sort (in an oil dressing) and fries with ketchup.
