      @Tacodidra, she sure is!

      I wanted to use this as an avatar, but I can't get the file size small enough. I tried cutting out some frames but it ended up throwing the timing off.  :derp:

      It would have been an amazing one! :rarity: I've never tried to use an animated avatar myself, making some of the pictures I've used square is difficult enough! :muffins:

  12. 2018 will come to a close in a couple hours (for me). Wish everypony a happy New Year!  :mlp_yay:

    On a side note: I haven't done a blog on here yet. Might do one on my astronomy plans for 2019.

  13. 2nd attempt on the Horsehead and Flame Nebula. Not as good as the one from last night since my optics fogged up towards the end of the exposure.

    27°F is a bit chilly. Brrrr!!

    Exposure: ISO3200; 23 minutes; f/5.5

  14. 30 minute exposure of the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51). :mlp_grin:

    Photographed thru a Celestron C8, unguided. I spent some time adjusting the counterweights to find that sweet spot. Balance is very important.

  15. A comparison of clouds in different light. There's very little Rayleigh scattering in Near IR, but it increases dramatically into the visible and ultraviolet regions.

  16. A couple UV shots of some flowers. It was cloudy today, so I had to use a UV flashlight.

    A spotlight operating around 350nm would be perfect for this!

      @Stone Cold Steve Tuna, It took a lot of practice to get here and I still need more practice. ^_^

      Focusing ultraviolet light is almost an art for a couple reasons: Autofocus doesn't work in UV and there's just not much light to work with thanks to atmospheric absorption and scatter. Even on a bright sunny day, the ISO will be around 3200 and shutter at 1/30s with a very fast lens.

       I usually take 3 shots of the same subject and pick the best one. Sometimes I'll have to reshoot if the focus is soft.

      I can talk all day about this subject  :twismile:

      @Sondash Studios, search ebay for a converted DSLR camera and an IR pass filter for your lens. It'll get ya started.  :fluttershy:

  18. A pair of safety glasses in visible and ultraviolet light.

    This is pretty much what I expected since polycarbonate absorbs UV. Still cool to see it, tho.  :mlp_grin:
