Have you ever had sleep paralysis?
WingMcCallister replied to XUNUSEDXXX's topic in General Discussion
I've had this happen a lot of times. I call them Threshold Experiences. I normally hear a roar that I cannot really describe adequately. For me, they essentially indicate that I'm about to enter a lucid dreaming state, so there is less terror and more epic happiness because some good stuff is about to go down. I know it's addictive, but it is not good to trigger them a lot. It's my opinion that we have this separation built into us for a reason. I've fiddled around with trying to use this state like a multiprocessor to work out problems from reality; it led to disastrous effects that I'd rather not experience again. -

WingMcCallister replied to DandelionBubble's topic in Requestria
Well let see if I can get in this. There is a link action to my OC in the siggy. But I can edit shtuff in if need be. http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/wick-r916 -
I'm completely unqualified to discuss the quality of art, but I did want to take the time to point out that this thread is a quintessential example as to why I think this community rocks. A completely fresh artist makes noticeable improvement in a matter of days thanks to lots of encouraged practice and pointers from other people. Keep it up, Tenebris.

I love projects like this. OC contributing away! I only have one, so I gots to go with Wick. Char image actionpanda I probably should have a much better image of that cutie mark. It's a phoenix. As for all the magical facets of the image, pose and whatnot, I'd say go with whatevs makes sense for the broad image creation / overall image awesomeness.- 86 replies

I'm not one to critique art, but this looks good to me. I can almost hear Twilight saying, "Take a letter, Spike!" while looking at it. Keep up the good work.

The ridiculous potential for more lustful undertones to this topic amuses me greatly. I just have this stupid grin on my face lol. Nice little red pencil sketch.

I'm going to go with 'Script Sync' for reasons that are somewhat obviouspanda. At least, I hope so.

I'm an uber fan of watercolor. Looks like others got to the critique bits. Keep up the good work, and things will continue to get better.

Now that is some funky junk brother. The sax rift is glorious. I think Spike earned those extra sprinkles with that performance. lol -
Accidentally Traveling to Equestria
WingMcCallister replied to Thunderbirds360's topic in Written Fan Works
I think you need to be a bit more careful with punctuation / capitalization around quotation marks. Stuff along the lines of: "Howdy," he said. "He said, "Howdy." Also, I'd avoid writing in all caps. If you want the character to express himself, use the narration to help you. In other words, instead of "YES!!!! YES!!!" ---> something like: "Yes! Yes!" Jon roared triumphantly. In terms of the story itself, I suggest going back and refining the description a little. The way it sits now comes off a bit haphazard to me. Jon's made this invention, then it's talking about 2014, and then suddenly it's 2023. All the bouncing around made it a bit hard to get into the characters. Along this line of thinking, I'm also not sure how much the insert about the parents does for you. It would be one thing if such a tragedy led Jon to invent, but if it didn't, it's somewhat extraneous. You should be using this first section to build the bonding between your characters and the reader. Finally, I really - pretty strongly actually - believe you should tweak the drive into Ponyville. If I suddenly made an invention that sent me hurling into a cartoon world, I would be captivated by the changes in color and texture that define the new reality. I think writing something equivalent to 'and then the car was in Ponyville' doesn't do your story justice. I feel you should really bump the description and boost the emotion of this section. It will help the reader connect. And that pretty much sums up my suggestions. Welcome to the crazy shenanigans world of writing. -

mega thread Why you chose your user name.
WingMcCallister replied to Klopp's topic in General Discussion
I got the name Wing for making a kilometer jump back in MechWarrior 3. At some point after that, I decided it'd be fun to have a last name, so I took McCallister as it was the last name of the woman who ran my gaming group at the time. She was essentially my online mom lol. The name stuck ever since. I think more people call me Wing than my actual name. Scary thought... -
Lolz, if I were a pony, then I'd go with Dash. Loyalty wins, IMO, and despite her cockiness flaw, unconditional loyalty is just a giant plus for a stable relationship. If that's not enough, I'd be able to say, "Come here, Skittles; let me taste that rainbow," and it would actually mean something hilarious.

You're welcome. I'm afraid only Derpy's muffins will do. They have the power to defy nature. It's not an easy task, but perhaps something found at the LHC will shed a little light on this subject. In the meantime, I shall continue to play with my neutrinos.

lolz, I'll try, but I'm an experimentalist, so dropping into theory will be full of bitterness. Essentially, M-theory is a multidimensional framework of our universe. The easiest way for me to explain why such theories arise is by talking about the fundamental interactions of matter. You've got the strong nuclear force, electromagnetism, the weak nuclear force, and gravity. Gravity is by far the weakest of them all -- a fact that baffles many ponies when they first get told - but it's true. So one way to explain this difference is to say that gravity spreads over unseen dimensions where the other forces do not. Hence, gravity is spread thin in the dimensions we see. In the case of M-theory, there are 11. The problem with this is that testing such a theory is absurdly difficult. The finding of some physics beyond the Standard Model could indicate that some cool stuff is going down, but we'd need some Doctor Whooves magic -- or some excellent muffins -- to probe those dimensions. Long story short, when you're an experimentalist and you're given a theory that's untestable, the prevailing reaction is bad. Lots of things can look good on paper, but lots of those things get a bit out of hoof. lolz

That is awesome sauce. Congrats on having it get all the way to the top. Looks like it was well deserved, and I dig the stare down.
