  1. ...And in the closing stages of the Wild Card, Lyra Heartstrings has come back against Coco Pommel and Trixie has taken a lead over Princess Celestia! Wow! If these were actual football games, they would be classics. But as polls they're pretty damn good too, despite relatively low scoring on both sides. Just 80 minutes remain in the round...
  2. Both Octavia and Trixie are just one vote behind with a day to go in the round! Can they manage to pull it off? For new entrants, Coco and Coloratura have been very successful here. I wonder how far they can go.
  3. It's strange. Ever since I joined this forum in 2012 I've seen people talking about how awesome and beautiful she is, and I agree that she is attractive....and yet all those people have never voted Trixie to a single playoff victory in this tourney. She had first-round losses to Vinyl in 2013, then Cadence in 2015, and now she's falling behind in this one too. Where's the beef? Coco vs. Lyra is as close as I expected. Sweet and talented pony who designs clothes for runways... vs. vivacious, eccentric pony who would have the most memorable runway stance ever.
  4. the blondes the blondes the blondes are coming plastic battle AAAARRRRGH why do I bother when the plaids will never come, two matching plaids are a crime don't you know and there's red licorice to be concerned with. Nashville nights and Tina's angry, looking for revenge on the ones, the twos, the severals but it all goes up in flames in the end. HOOOOEEEEY hot diggity that is a nice cummerbund. Who is your horse's best friend? Garbage cans talk to each other and oh the secrets they tell. Virgin crumbsucker catalogues. Coors. Twinsies. Vocal fry membership cards for all. I once dreamed I was chased by a polar bear. Lyra is best pony.
  5. I'm surprised Octavia is holding up so well against Luna. Then again, she is a much-loved background pony with a very unique look and she's gone far in this tournament before.
  6. Picking up the commentary discussion from earlier, I'd like to mention Tony Schiavone of NWA and WCW as one of my favorite commentators. He gets a lot of heat for things he said at Eric Bischoff's behest and not caring anymore towards the end of WCW, but I always liked him. Great voice, good sense of humor, very few stumbles or verbal gaffes. He knew exactly what he was doing out there. I could close my eyes and visualize what was going on in a match purely through his announcing. Put him together with Bobby Heenan and Mike Tenay, who called a lot of shows together in 1998 and '99, and you have my favorite broadcast team. WWE has had no real voice of the company on their broadcasts since they let Jim Ross go (again). He single-handedly elevated their television product and was a big factor behind the scenes as well. His absence exposes just how weak they've actually been on commentary in the last several years. After the Monsoon/Heenan/Ventura era, J.R. and Paul Heyman were the only WWE commentary team I ever really liked. They were equally great in their roles, complete opposites on and off TV, and when they bickered (which was inevitable) it sounded completely natural.
  7. I was just telling my mom something like that yesterday. "I don't understand people. Sometimes they all seem like monsters to me." And they really do.
  8. Hmmm. I'm not sure about that one. If we lived in a world where it was actually an option, that'd be something else. But since I don't, everything here is really pure speculation. I might give it a shot if they were the ponies from the show, but I'm not 100% sure.
  9. I've got to get me one of those vinyl figures! The show changes, new ponies come along, but Lyra is still the prettiest thing on four hooves. Or on two hooves. Or in a giant bowl of bathwater.
  10. Twilight's fanbase seems to have organized in a big way; she now holds a decisive 10-vote lead in her division! Fluttershy, Sunset Shimmer, and Coco Pommel are now in a 3-way tie (33 votes each) for the final playoff spot in the EFC.
  11. I disagree with JBL. He paid his dues, yeah, and obviously he's been close to management for a long time. But he's not one of the greats in my mind and he had a rep as a locker room bully. (Remember when Joey Styles of all people punched him out in Iraq?) Also disagree with Jacqueline. She was a capable female wrestler in WWE and still is today, but she didn't have that special quality about her. Regis is a disgrace. Charles Wright could get it done in the ring, but he's really known only for his memorable gimmicks, one of which I hated even as a teenage mark (the Godfather). So I'd have to disagree with that one too. Sting and the Fabulous Freebirds are the only picks I agree with here. They don't come any more awesome than the Franchise, and the Freebirds revolutionized heel tag team wrestling.
  12. I am one of "us" myself, but I can't vote... PFC South would actually be the toughest choice for me. Having to choose between Maud and Applejack?! Fluttershy fights back and steals a wildcard berth from under Sunset Shimmer AND Coco Pommel's noses! Wow! If not for Lyra's 2013 performance, Flutters would be the John Elway of this tournament easily. She just keeps coming back. Time to update those standings...
  13. I'll admit, I was tempted to throw Big Mac in there as a joke. Just four days left until the regular season ends and the wild card matches begin! I can't wait.
  14. It happened! Coco Pommel has tied Sunset Shimmer at 27 votes for 6th seed in the EFC! Non-Rarity fashion pone just won't give up.
  15. Pocahontas didn't quite hold my attention when I saw it as a kid, nor did it teach me anything I didn't already know (even at age 10) about colonial history. There just wasn't a whole lot of depth to it. Disney was overreaching itself, commenting on a huge historical issue with nothing but a cliched plot and flat characters. I guess they thought it would still be seen as profound because "hey, we're Disney!" You can hardly blame them; everything they touched since The Little Mermaid had turned to gold, but that was because all those late 80s-early 90s classics were memorable and driven by not just amazing visuals, but strong characters with interesting places to go. They forgot to do that with Pocahontas. So it was a good movie on the whole, just not great. (The historical inaccuracies and the raccoon sidekick don't help much either.)
  16. Good article. I agree that all gender norm-based discrimination is wrong. I think bronies will be more widely accepted with time. (My family has never made a big deal about my being one, which I really appreciate.) Amen to that, my friend! Those people are doing more harm than good.
  17. You're right. Or Octavia and Lyra! They've never played each other either. It almost happened in the first tournament, but Octy lost to Fluttershy.
  18. Sunset and Fluttershy continue to battle it out for 2nd place in the EFC North while Starlight continues to chase Princess Celestia, possibly across time and space. Lyra continues to impress in a competitive division and Octavia and Twilight are still neck and neck! This has been great so far.
  19. Just like that, Twilight retakes the lead in the EFC East and Trixie is closing in on Countess Coloratura. I love this tourney! Even before the head-to-head matches start, there's plenty of suspense.
  20. The division standings have been updated! Check the first page to see which 12 ponies would advance to the playoffs if the season ended today. (Of course, it doesn't end 'til the 24th, and that's still a lot of time for strong players to fall behind--or weak ones to mount a comeback!) I was bound to forget somepony from Season 5. Tell you what, we'll pencil her in for next time.
  21. I'm not sure. It just seems popular these days to fixate on something mainstream and speak out against it. It's just like people hating on Justin Bieber or Tim Tebow a few years back. Maybe it's because Nickelback has had so much commercial success despite sounding just like a thousand other generic rock (NOT METAL) bands in America today. At least that's my take on it.
  22. Absolutely right. My brother still has a 360, hasn't upgraded at all. And I never went beyond the PlayStation 2 myself. It's such a great system with an amazing library of games that I never saw the need to buy a newer console. The appeal of most new consoles seems to be their functionality as computers (Microsoft and Sony) or their gimmick controls (Nintendo). I'm not big on gimmick controllers and I already have a computer, so that was that.
  23. Last night my mom made potato soup with bacon and onions, plus some oven-baked tilapia with tartar sauce. Wow! That was good stuff. Can't wait for the leftovers.
  24. Moderate liberal on social issues, centrist on fiscal issues. I agree with many things I read and hear from liberal friends and media (not the Young Turks though, they're just obnoxious). Conservative messages, not so much. Conservatism in my country is just too extreme.
