Do some bronies treat MLP like a religion?

Seriously! I love the show as much as anypony else (as a Pegasister), but I've noticed that bronies seem to almost act like the show is a religion a lot of the time. It feels to me that if you are a brony/pegasister, that is literally what your life revolves around. Ponies, and nothing more (well, you may be interested in something else, but the label "brony" means that you are OBSESSED with the show to no end). Does this make sense to anyone else, and do you guys feel the same way? If so, why is this?

I really hope this doesn't start a flame war.

Good gosh... I was just asking a simple question! Sorry if I offended somepony. I'm only 14... and this is just based on my observations of the fandom. Watch "Bronies: The Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony" for just a little insight of where I'm coming from (and yes, I enjoyed that documentary - I liked it so much that I watched it twice!)

I don't have evidence to show you but I've seen it.

That's what I love about this particular site, you don't see anything odd of the sort.

And yes, I been to other places, but there are things I shouldn't know about.

While I count myself as a briny, I certainly do not treat it like a religion.

However, I can see what you mean, but I see this from some other randoms; like the furry fandom where 'coming out' as a furry is like coming out as homosexual.

All hobbies have people like that.

Because pony is luv, pony is lyfe. Giddy up.

And because for some people it is really the only major thing they have going in their lives, weather that is their personal choice, or it is thrust upon them is not for me to say. And there are people who obsess over MLP far to much, and anything that is obsessed over that much will eventually be treated as a divine experience. I mean, a guy did marry his Twilight plushie, and then threaten an author of a clop story because it contained his waifu. Who according to him he married. In the real world. So naturally, anyone who obsesses that much over something is going to treat it like a religion, but the mass majority of the fanbase does not do as such.

Because in the beginning, there was Celestial and Luna who stood against the physical embodiment of chaos and prevailed. They ascended to the title of Princess and all was good. When the dark Sombra attempted to conquer the Crystal Empire, the Two Sisters stood against him. And then NMM had to come and mess with Luna, and Sunbutt sent her to the moon and Luna is Best Pony (IMO) and I'm not religiously obsessed with MLP (just Luna)

But to each their own (MLP does gave good morals behind it), if it works for them then my opinion is just that.

Being a brony or pegasister is not a religion, it's a state of mind :P

You can love the show as much as you want, and be obsessed as far as you want, just remember that everyone is different, and that you don't have to match or outcompete anypony for obsession to the show. That's why some people are religious about it, they want to seem the most/best brony by being (overly) into the show.

By all means enjoy it, but it's not a competition guys B)

I don't really treat it like a religion at all...

*Slides "Holy Bible of Celestia" out of view*

Lol!  Best post thus far.

I'm "into" My Little Pony.  And when I'm into something...  I'm into something.  And it may well become an inextricable part of me.  This is true of Lovecraft, J.S. Bach, Nintendo, and - potentially - animated ponies.  Though I am decidedly atheist, I "worship" Great Cthulhu and a winged blue pony warrior goddess (WBPWG for short).  Given that I can still acknowledge that the respective works from which they hail are fictional, I don't think my interests can be mistaken for religious fervor.  I mean, just try telling someone that their god is a fictional character from a book.  I doubt that ever goes over well. xD

I literally have never seen anyone worshipping the show as a religion.

If I was a bit more cynical, I'd suggest you're basing this off of limited knowledge and a lack of exposure, and everyone needs to step with bullsh*t threads about this.

But I'm not. So I'm not.

I think it depends on the person. For me, "religion" might be stretching it, but it certainly brings out a level of passion in me that few of my other interests have.

Like me, people have had their lives profoundly changed in a positive way by this show and fandom. Their reverence could be out of appreciation and/or gratefulness to something they feel can change other's lives like it has their own.

Hope this helps answer your question. :)

I dunno man, there was that guy who married that plushie. And that other guy who married the octavia plushie. And those 4 or so guys on /mlp/ that tried to off themselves to get to Equestria. I agree that OP is making huge generalizations, and that almost none of the fanbase worships the show. But out there somewhere, in the cold, cold, dark never ending abyss that is the American midwest.......someone prays to MLP and Meghan McCarthy..

The guy who married his Twilight plushie turned out to be a hoax, remember?

Eh. I could say that out there, somewhere, someone just sacrificed a homeless man to Lumpy Space Princess.

Still probably not true.

No, he had pictures of him doing the intimates to it up on /mlp/. Along with custom made BDSM gear for the Twilight plushie. I don't think that was a hoax, and certainly not after that pornhub upload of him and the twi plushie.

Mm, wrong guy then.

But call me when he worships the poor plushie as a God.
