How does "normal society" treat people with natural-born pink hair?

Well, it must be a rare thing but I've never seen someone who had it. I would just treat them if they were normal, even people who dyed their hair.

Wait, what freaking allele expresses to determine a pink hue? I suppose that if you had crazy platinum blonde hair and and VERY high diet of carotene heavy foods you would have a pink hue ... but that is not a genetic expression as much as an natural response to diet and your normal pigment.

Anyway, considering that (to my knowledge) pink hair is not a naturally occurring phenomenon ... I would assume that the person dyed it. My reaction would be indifference ... since I really don't care what someone looks like or dresses like. It's their body ... not mine.

Now, as far as society ... it could vary dramatically. Crooked teeth in Japan = attractive. Every culture has their own artificial standards on what is seen as attractive, so who knows how pink hair would be taken.

But in my scenario, it started from a mutation or a lab accident, causing pink-hair to be a dominant gene. How will society treat such people?

Bonus question: if all of this is in a 1950's American society, how will the "natural pink-hairs" be treated there?

However, you stated it's someone with NATURAL pink hair. Lab accidents aren't natural, and what would have caused this mutation?

Personally i would walk up to them with a smile, sneeze confetti in their face, and walk away.

I would treat them 'normal' like i do everyone else.

@GammaDove

The "pink-hairs" are descended from people who are affected by a lab accident, and they (the descendants) are only referred as "natural pink-haired" because they are born with pink hair.

And I'm not really sure on what crazy event might trigger a mutation into pink hair, if such a thing can actually exist ...

Is this a thing? WHY have I never heard of this before?!?!

Also, why wasn't I born with pink hair!!!

That's sooooo cool! Lucky, lucky people! I've ALWAYS wished I was born with an unusual hair color. Ugh, why can't I be one of these people??

Back in the 70s & 80s, I was a Dungeon Master & looked at Medieval History for inspiration.  There used to be a folk lore belief that Judas Iscariot had red hair.  Thus, red heads were often thought to be witches or potential vampires & killed.  (For some reason, not in Ireland, though).  Here in the USA, for the last 200 years or so, people didn't believe you were a witch.  They thought it was worse than that -they thought you were Irish.  In the 1950s, hair dying was still fairly unusual & socially unacceptable + de facto discrimination against Irish & Catholics was still widely practiced.  (A lot of Country Clubs wouldn't admit them, for instance).

One thing I know from a girl friend's experience.  Human hair has a brown pigment & a red pigment.  Most hair dyes only affect the more common brown pigment.  She tried to bleach her hair blonde, wound up a red head & freaked. I thought it was hot & tried to get her to keep it, but no. She ditched the hair color & me both. (This was back in the 70s, don't know if that's still true today)

Back in the 1950s, I Love Lucy was on the air.  She had red hair, but, since TV was black & white, this was not readily apparent.

People are born with pink hair? I wanna be born with pink hair. :c

I'd imagine that a guy with pink hair would probably get bullied by ignorant mouth breathers who think the word "gay" is the ultimate insult. As for a girl, they'd probably just be called cute. ;p
