Is it possible Princess Celestia is a horse?

That doesn't make sense since Granny Smith has been the same size since she was younger and since she is now. Also how do you explain the 100 other ponies that are the same size as the mane six? Alicorns obviously have a different growth rate. Twilight may grow bigger but since she's a special case (not born alicorn) she might stay the same size.

I assume that its just because shes royalty and an Alicorn and it has something to do with that. I don't think it has to do with being a horse, I mean technically horses are just bigger ponies, but I think that it is just refereed to as them all being ponies for the sake of consistency, plus its a girls cartoon so they don't really bother being technical. I suppose if you wanted you could say they are a horse, but you'd have to know exactly how tall they are and if they meet horse requirements or fall into ponies.

Some horses are just refered to as ponies anyways by their breed, so I guess as long as they're all the same general breed their all ponies.

While I guess you could maybe refer to them as horses, but for the sake of simplicity you may as well refer to them as all ponies, regardless of the technical definition.

I don't think the show is technical that there would be any intricate reason to the height of the ponies. It's probably just to show the position of power she holds to the little kids that watch the show ( the target audience). They expect the kids to relate to ponies while other figures like Celestia are made bigger to show their power of authority, just as the kids' parents, teachers, and adults in their life who hold authority over them will be larger than them.

So no, I don't think she's a horse, I think they're all the same.

Princess Celestia is tall because she's an alicorn.  Check.

Alicorns are tall because they are in charge, i.e. royalty.  Check.

The ponies that are in charge are the tallest ponies.  ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY TALLEST!

Is she a horse? What do you mean? It's a world full of ponies! THEY'RE ALL HORSES!

(Note: Horses and ponies are the same type of creature, they only are seperated by height and strength)

Goodness. This is a succesful topic necromancy spell if I have ever seen one!

Good on you other poster who managed to get this topic back up and running! Impressive!

As for the actual topic, there have been many points given all around, but I believe Missderpy had it correct.

They are bigger because they are the rulers. But they are still ponies!

As far as the actual biology of pony vs horse, there is very little difference in the long run.

It is quite simple really.  Look at Luna.  She was actually small in her diminished form at the end of episode 1/2.  Twilight is also just barely taller than a unicorn.  As they come into their own they magically grow somewhat and then their mane starts to shimmer.

Is Celestia a horse? well she seems actually TALLER than a horse

if I am not mistaken the two (horses) and well clearly horses and Celestia seems much taller than them.....

also it seems horses have no cutiemark but as Celestia does and it is more possible only PONIES can have wings/horns as horses are a race in themselves

the bodytype is VERY different so I can't really say Celestia has a horse-like body but more on the pony side

I see Celestia as a pony myself hope I helped out. :3

The Journal of the Two Sisters has a kind of good reason for Celestia (and Luna) to be huge like that.

Instead of losing their magic to the sun and the moon, they gain power when they move it and were also able to restore magic that unicorns had lost in the past by moving the celestial bodies.

Twilight had a flowing mane for a while when she received the magic of the other princesses, maybe their size is a secondary effect from being "loaded" with magic.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

Horses & ponies are the same species.  The only difference is the purely arbitrary limit of size.  Horse size is measured in hands (1 hand = 1 decimeter = 4 inches) at the withers.  This is defined as "across the front shoulders at the point of the last hair of the mane." Yes, the head sticks up higher.  IDK why they measure it across the shoulders, maybe it's easier to get them to hold their shoulders still.

Horses are 14 hands, ponies are smaller.  The size is counted as the breed's average size unless it's a mixed breed.  Then, the individual's size counts.  Celestia is larger, but IDK if she is enough larger to count as a horse

The ponies are only the size of the dolls that's why they don't make up 14.6 hands and are little ponies which are smaller than even ponies..

Everything in Equestria is scaled down. Ponyville alone would be able to fit in a person's living or bed room
