Best Grimdark You've Ever Read?

Even though I can handle anything regardless of how dark it is, I don't look back on any of the grimdark stories I've read too fondly. Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory, and Sweet Apple Massacre, the ones I have read that were listed, all of them have kind of sucky writing. Grimdark MLP stories have definitely been done best through the works of fan comic creators like Culu-Bluebeaver and J5A4 to me.

wdym Cupcakes is just about Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie baking some cupcakes, there's nothing grimdark about it

Rainbow Factory definitely but I also really like an incomplete story called A Process of Elimination. It is more psychological and it deals with Twilight having some dark thoughts about others after her magic school test goes wrong

I believe it deals with some sort of epidemic that hit Equestria hard and the Mane 6 are in Twilight's home. It's highly contagious and they cannot leave the library at all. Everyone is down and depressed and it gets worse when Fluttershy coughs a little.

 

It's a short story, but it is VERY good, but also very tragic.

I listened to the audio version a couple of years ago and I could never find the link to the actual story, glad somebody else found it

Something Sweet to Bite would be really good without the awful spacing ruining the fun. It's definitely better to listen to than to read.

Other than that I don't read grimdark. Or horror for that matter. But there are a couple horror stories that I like:

Don't Open the Door

After I Looked Up, The Stars Had Gone Away

The Same Scenario Repeated Three Times
