I squee'd just a bit. I have Sedition, and I love it. The cover art is also so pretty.

Fleshgod Apocalypse is good too. In fact, that's how I found out about that album in the first place! Have you heard their latest (not really new) album, Agony? I like it better than their other stuff, more symphonic and stuffs.

I love the album artwork.  It's sick.  And the instrumentation is like, instant eargasms man.  Any hoo, I have heard Fleshgod's latest.  I prefer it over Oracles, in fact.  The symphonic instruments really made the album better, in my opinion.

Oh, and nice avatar man.  I love Cloud Chaser.

Girl please, you and I both know that Death, Thrash, and Deathcore deserve to be much higher up there.

And we're talking Fleshgod, huh?  Damn straight, we're talking Fleshgod.

Eh, they aren't as expressive as the other genres, though. Though grindcore's rating is totally biased because of how much I like it. Yet with black metal, there are tons of sub-subgenres, like atmospheric, depressive, post, blackgaze... which mean a lot more than say, deathcore.

Artistic value > technical ;)

I'll just use anything to defend a band I like. If they've got real artistic value or emotion, I'll say "oh these guys are so good, they're really emotional and put heart and soul into what they do." Or I'll pull a complete 360 for another band and be like "These guys can pull of such technicality and precision with their playing, it's great."

I'm a sneaky little fuck.

"These guys can pull of such technicality and precision with their playing, it's great."

BUT PLAYING ABILITY IS SUBJECTIVE AND IF SOMETHING IS SUBJECTIVE THEN THERE IS NO DEFINABLE "BETTER".

I mean, look at bands like Metallica. They are actually pretty shitty musicians, yet they influenced an entire genre with their playing style. Now if their technicality goes to send a message, that's a different story. Like, with Meshuggah. On Catch 33, a lot of it was just experimenting with "soundscapes" and almost drone-like patterns, in strange, technical time signatures. Compare that to an artist like Joe Satriani, which is basically musical masturbation, and the differences are evident.

Or maybe I'm taking something too literal. :T Did you listen to LiveLoveA$AP yet? :P

Was giving this a spin today, fantastically vicious piece of metal :D

Any other slam/brutal death fans out there?

Also, anyone into technical music/technical death metal/grindcore/weird vocals should check these guys out. A Million Dead Birds Laughing are probably one of my favourite Australian bands at the moment, awesome dudes too :D

Power Metal 10th, huh?  Welp, guess that's what I'll be posting :D

I actually really like Savatage, despite not being as heavy as I usually like my metal.

We're getting power metal up in here? My favorites would have to be Blind Guardian and Helloween, but I can't really find any power metal I despise. Germany was very prominent in the power metal scene in the late 80's, ya know.

stop liking things I don't like seriously

Here's the soundtrack to my night. Post-metal, I guess, but it has a lot of hardcore punk influence, so I'm not sure.

Must be a North Jersey thing. Can't help it, boi.

I've rekindled my love for Fleshgod Apocalypse lately. Still can't decide whether I like Oracles or Agony better. Oracle is a more standard deathy album but the symphonic stuff in Agony can be a bit too distracting from the band.

Though that drumming is absolutely fantastic. If I didn't know any better, I'd think they were programmed.

In other news, my cousin is attending the Soundwave Festival in Australia on February 24th. It's got a pretty good line-up, with his favorites being The Offspring, Periphery, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Pierce the Veil. Seems pretty cool.

Also, you know what I really hate? How every single fucking death metal band uses the exact same font on all the cover art o their albums. Not only is it stupid and doesn't actually look "scary" or whatever the fuck they're trying to do with it, it just looks retarded and is impossible for the dyslexic mind to comprehend :I

Yay, I like Agony better. The symphonic stuff doesn't really seem too distracting; their EP Mafia had symphonic stuff too, just not as much. I like the spin on it. That's what got me to start listening to tech death. Not that I listen to too much tech death in the first place, but still.

As for the drums, yeah they are really orgasmy, but they're not programmed.

However, he does use triggers, I don't mind that though. Edited by Railrunner

Triggers or not, what he pulls off is amazing.  I'm one of those people that'll defend the use of triggers.   To be honest, I don't see it being possible to perform at these speeds without them.

Here's some Blind Guardian-esque power metal to keep up with the mood of the thread.

Metalcore is pretty low on that list.  I'm a bit disappointed, though I'd say my favorite sub-sub genre (melodic metalcore) just won't be done better than this.

I came across these guys by chance while browsing the tubes.  An excellent specimen of the "djent" sound and heavy vocals that I enjoy so much:

Also, a wild Born of Osiris appears, because random encounters are a bitch:

Would anyone happen to know any bands that are similar to this, or perhaps in the same kind of genre?

I'd say go with maybe Thrice, As I Lay Dying, or Killswitch Engage.

Also, I've been listening to Colors by Between the Buried and Me, and I love the beginning of this song:

I think it's time that you made your way over to Parallax 2, bruh.

Also, holy hell does Opeth have a ton of different music under their belts. Every damn album seems to be different than the last.

Can anyone give me some Dream Theater song recommendations in case I wanna buy more DT stuff in the future?

These are the songs I like the most right now:

Honor Thy Father

Panic Attack

Octavarium

The Root of All Evil

As I Am

I already have Train of Thought and Octavarium, so don't recommend me songs from those albums.

My absolute favorite DT song, "Forsaken", is off their album "Systematic Chaos".  I haven't given anything else off of there a thorough listen, but I would check it out none-the-less.

I picked up Veil of the Maya's latest, Eclipse. Pretty impressive album, but nothing seemed really new compared to what Maya's put out before, but hey, I'm not complaining. Gotta love dat djent, amirite?

Also, seems every time I see a band that djents on Youtube, all these whiny metal purists are like "Djent is such a gay genre."

First off, it's not a genre. It's a noise the strings make.

Second, music can't be homosexual.

It's so hard to find quality metalcore, though. I end up disliking a lot of it.

This is live performance is really dark. And abrasive. Fun! :D:D:D:D:D

Post-metal.
